Despite Beckham being out (and others on O) with the 50+ dropped on them last Sunday, I'd say D is their major issue to fix.

yeah, it needs to start there. when even the most casual fan knows that the o-line has been an issue for several years (even during lasts years surprisingly successful playoff run) and the GM's big idea was to draft an old receiver, instead of any o-line players, there is a big issue at the top

If your team's offense is 3 plays plus punt, even the best D gets tired. See the broncos game.

No kidding.  Not every player/coach gets to make the deal with the devil Tom and Bill have.  The guy has had a nice, long career, with two Super Bowl rings.  If I were him I would probably voluntarily leave at the end of the season before I took too many more hits for a team that, from the looks of it, has no chance of getting to the Super Bowl, or even the playoffs any time soon.

In his defense, he has nerve damage so severe that he can't even feel parts of his hand.  Without the neck injury, he might have played great for another 5 years

That is the symptom of one of the biggest problems in the NFL. The qb gets all of the attention, period. Sports news casters don't even speak of teams from a team perspective, they always say the qb name instead. It is the ultimate "look at me" position. Some may prefer it that way, I think it's misleading.

Is this where people says something like "injuries are part of the game?" Because I think durability is ultimately what forces everyone out, right? If not for the aging process, QBs would all play forever.

You don't understand. It isn't Brady. He's a top 50 QB at best. It's all because of the "system" employed by Belichick. In the Patriot's system, Methuselah could spot fill for Brady and win 11 games. Certainly he couldn't run the option, but that's not because he's bad or anything. It's just because it never works.

Eli's QBR and rankings at that stat, by year:
2017 - 42.8 - 22nd
2016 - 45.7 - 27th
2015 - 57.9 - 16th
2014 - 61.0 - 14th
2013 - 38.6 - 27th
2012 - 65.2 - 9th
2011 - 64.2 - 10th
2010 - 57.7 - 13th
2009 - 71.7 - 7th
2008 - 66.9 - 6th
2007 - 50.6 - 18th
2006 - 48.6 - 20th
ESPN doesn't list it past that.

So, in the last 12 years he had two really good seasons about 10 years ago and a handful of average seasons and the past two years have just been bad. Maybe he just isn't nearly as good as people thought.

The Dolphins were heavily favored in SB19, their hurry-up offense worked some of the time in that game but the 49ers' employing 6 DB's on defense basically was enough to shut down Marino for 3 quarters where he started missing throws and whatnot. It's almost like having a rhythm based offense doesn't work if the other side keeps you off rhythm, it's not like the same thing happened to Kelly 4x in a row, or to Warner in '01, Brady in '11 or Peyton in '13.

I wish my team had a system that always put players in the best position to play well, I mean they're sacrificing their health whether they're put in a good spot or not, I feel like coaches that don't put in 110% to put their players in the best spot to play well and by extension keep themselves out of doing something stupid aren't respectful of their players. Ben McAdoo types basically,

As a Giants fan all I can say is it is not just the QB. Any QB will have issues behind the current offensive line and when your wide receivers have hands covered in the most slippery substance to man kind it is bad. And mentally when you know you have guys off the practice squad trying to catch your balls with 300 pound guys in your face in a few seconds it is going to be a fun mental game.

The defense seems to be thinking of the offseason since they let teams coast down the field.  The two games at the start of the season losing in last seconds to a field goal killed the little spirit they had.

I wish they would have pulled Eli in the last game and put in their backup, but he was not even at the game... lol

Oh, I know.  Can't stand the guy or his family, but recognize he is at least too five all time.  That doesn't change the fact that his noodle arm made him arguably one of the worst starring qbs in the league that year.

I totally understand what you're saying and agree. I just think it's a tragedy that (before he got fired from Espn) their radio people would always introduce him as 'Super Bowl winning quarterback Trent Dilfer'. I'm not a huge Marino fan and am too lazy to do the research but I am fairly sure there are other QBs who were on SB winning teams who had no business being there.

Belicheck is probably the second greatest coach of all time, and he's right up against Lombardi at the top spot. Those two are so far above and beyond the rest of the field it is astonishing. When Matt goddamned Cassel can win 10-11 games, you've got one hell of a program in place.

(And only mouth-breathing farkwallet would get offended at Brady being *only* one of the 50 best QBs to ever play WHAAARGARBLEWTFBBQ! so there's that as well)

Eli is a bit like Elite Quarterback Joe Flacco - very hit and miss during the regular season, but had some great games in the playoffs.
