You think you can catch Kevin Spacey? You think a guy like that comes this close to getting caught, and sticks his head out? If he comes up for anything it'll be to get rid of me. After that... my guess is you'll never hear from him again.

So how's that whole "It's okay, I'm gay" defense working out for you?

/be gay all you want but no one has license to commit sexual assault

Former Boston TV news anchor Heather Unruh spoke at a press conference Wednesday, during which she said Kevin Spacey sexually assaulted her son in Massachusetts when he was 18 years old. Unruh said that her son, now a 19-year-old college student, asked her to give the statement.

Why couldn't they just say "last year".  Geez.

Did he actually say that or was that jgay people just being defensive? Because the gay cat was pretty much out of the bag at that point.

Not that everyone didn't already know anyway.

He did make a big deal about coming out.  I interpreted it more as the fact that the accusation (publicly) outed him and he was choosing to acknowledge that rather than call Rapp a liar.  If he'd just gone with "I don't remember that" or tried to push back about being outed as gay, or deny it it'd have looked like attacking the victim.  If one believes him about not remembering the incident (and hell, at this point it's sounding like "For me, it was Tuesday") then it was overall fairly classy, imo.   I mean, ignoring all the rest and just looking at that moment in context.  Taken all together he's at least got a serious problem as an aggressive sexual harasser.  Not necessarily Weinsteinian, maybe, but that doesn't make it okay.

If only Spacy was straight, there were so many hot underaged girls in Dazed and Confused.

That's why most states have degrees of it. Here in Michigan, what was presented would classify as fourth degree criminal sexual assault. Vaginally or anally raping a victim using violence, an imbalance of power, or the victim being a very young child (among other circumstances) would be classified as first degree criminal sexual assault.

It shows progress that we can lambaste gay creeps not because of or in spite of, but with total indifference to their sexuality. There was a long time when all gay men were subjected to witch hunts on this subject. Then there was actually a short window in some very liberal enclaves when gay men were so protected as an oppressed minority that they could do no wrong (I was sexually assaulted by a man on a very liberal college campus 15 years ago, and the admin and student body joked about it and made up excuses for him, along the lines of "They have it rough," and "They can't be expected to know better on account of how mean society is to them," and even "This is a good teaching moment for you, because now you understand what women go through.") Now we are at a point where gay men can be expected to stand on their own feet and be judged according to their character.

I don't want to go all ITG but if I were 18 and at a bar and some guy stuck his hand down my pants, he probably would have gotten a punch in the face. At the very least a "WTF, man?"  and a shove. I can't imagine it would "haunt" me though. It would likely be more of a story I would tell at parties.

"Remember when that dude grabbed my junk?" CSB.

It's November.  This could've happened in March, and the kid turned 19 in June, shortly before starting college.  Things happen during the year too.

Because it's not rape.  If it were, then pretty much every athlete ever has raped someone's buttocks.

I was one. This accusation is a bit more serious, more recent, and the Netflix crew members saying he has created a hostile workplace really backs up the stories, though.

So I will concede that Spacey does indeed seem to be a bad guy, and that he deserves this fall from glory. However, I will stand by my earlier position, too. I do not want to live in a world where a single unproven accusation (when it was  just a single accusation) is enough to completely destroy a person. Everyone deserves their day in court, and not just the court of public opinion.

It wasn't the single accusation that did him in. It was the fact that everyone close enough to know believed it because it was totally in his character as they know it.

Nobody stood up and said "Kevin Spacy?? No way, he'd never do such a thing!". They were more like "Kevin Spacey? Bout time someone called his creepy ass out."

Kevin Spacey was doomed the moment Rapp went on record and it wasn't because it was a single accusation, it was because everyone knew it was true.

That's what I was thinking. Grab a guy's junk at a party / bar situation and you're gonna sustain physical damage and immediate public embarrassment. Fellas get protective about their parts, y'know.

I guess that's why the operative term in the Spacey situations is "star-struck." Unlike a random groper at a bar, a Big-Name Actor carries with him a certain amount of public goodwill, such that an unsuspecting victim will, unfortunately, for a few minutes let him get away with it.

Exactly. You're in a bar, only 18, in the presence of one you greatly admire, and very drunk. I certainly wouldn't count on acting the way I right now think should be adequate.

Even thinking rationally, you'd be punching Oscar winning, Old Vic saving, hit series producing and acting  Kevin Spacey. With a clean public record as of then. Could be bad for your reputation.
