I think, and my thoughts cross the barrier into the synapses of the machine-just as the good doctor intended. But what I cannot shake, and what hints at things to come, is that thoughts cross back. In my dreams the sensibility of the machine invades the periphery of my consciousness. Dark. Rigid. Cold. Alien. Evolution is at work here, but just what is evolving remains to be seen.

Hey, maybe try and actually get that "affordable, mass produced electric car for the masses" thing working first. Just because Chevy, Ford, Nissan, Volkswagen, Smart, Kia, Fiat, and Hyundai all beat you to it by huge margin doesn't mean that you can't do it, too.

Base model will get around 150 miles - not bad for a commuter - and the bigger battery will do around 225ish.

I'm not looking to replace my hybrid anytime soon, but between GM, Nissan, and Honda's new EV's, there's some serious BEV and PHEV options in the market right now.

Is this a step towards a holodeck?

I always wanted that to happen during my lifetime. Though unlike in Star Trek, it would probably be less historical enactments, and more my porn collection.

They covered this on NCIS: New Orleans last night.  Of course the system was hacked, causing the test subjects to go nuts and kill people.  I am not sure we are intelligent enough to handle something like this.

Ah. I haven't really viewed much Star Trek.

The episodes I watched were the second version, and mostly just had Picard playing cards in "West World" or something. So I guess DS9 was more realistic.

I assume the sessions would be private, or everyone would have pee tapes on each other. ;)

I'd initially go with the "Cybus Industries"  Cybermen from Dr. Who, to keep with the business angle, but the Borg are FAR creepier*

Yeah, they had "holosuites" in the station's bar/casino that they made clear were electronic brothels on more than one occasion.

Why would you replace a hybrid with an electric car? If you had a Honda generator for the occasional power outage at your house, would you junk it so you could be all-electric? Is that really how you save the planet?

Felgraf: A good quote, but I think below is better.

The Warrior's bland acronym, MMI, obscures the true horror of
this monstrosity. Its inventors promise a new era of genius, but
meanwhile unscrupulous power brokers use its forcible installation
to violate the sanctity of unwilling human minds. They are
creating their own private army of demons.

In all seriousness, I agree. Sign me up. Keyboards and mice are inefficient. I'd love to be able to jack directly into my gaming rig and my car. And the thought of downloading language packs and other training programs has been appealing to me since I first played Cyberpunk in the late 80s.

Selling cars and making money are definitely real goals for Musk and Tesla.  What a lot of people miss is that they are *Secondary* goals.

The primary purpose for Tesla is to give Musk access to, production facilities for, and experience with, design, manufacture, debugging and maturing of all-electric drive trains.

So that when SpaceX starts building infrastructure and places to live somewhere else, be it Luna, Mars, or whatever, Musk will have another piece of his puzzle ready to drop into place.  It's something that will be needed out there, and he will have his own design and production facilities up to speed.  If Tesla makes money, fine.  If it jump starts an electric car revolution, even better.  But all Musk *really* needs is for it to not crash and burn before he's ready to start building things on other rocks.

Same thing with the Boring Company.  Building Hyperloops and advancing the state of the art in tunneling machines is all well and good, and it makes a buck, that's great.  But it's main raison d'etre is to have another puzzle piece ready to go when Musk needs to dig habitats.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him start a seed venture to force-mature the ability to design and build life support systems when he can capitalize it.

Talk to Reg Barclay.  Or the Holobrothel operator on Babylon 5.  Just stay away from the 'Lockley' template.

Eventually, I might need a new car.  It's nice to see the major automakers are providing options for future me.

Not trying to save the planet.  But yes, replacing older tech with newer tech is generally the way I roll.

Although, my hybrid *is* a manual. Just 94k on it, so it's probably good for another decade or so.  Not going to junk it anytime soon.
