Someone should subpoena the judge's Wells Fargo account

Sounds like JP Morgan Chase made a wise investment in that judge.

Maybe if we stopped treating the financial sector with kids gloves after every bullshiat scheme they concoct and ultimately have to bail them out over, there wouldn't be such "prejudice."

A little more than an hour later, U.S. District Judge Denise Cote said she'll likely order a new trial if the two sides don't hammer out a settlement because the verdict is "substantially flawed."  After which Judge Cote announced a 3 week recess and boarded a private jet bound for the Mediterranean and a 3 week 5-star all expenses paid vacation.  During that time it is reported that Judge Cote's was able to arrange for a home remodel after receiving a $500,000 0% interest Home Improvement loan payable at a fixed amount of $1/year for the next 500,000 years.

So much for the importance of jury duty.

A federal judge? No, you can't do a anything.  In the big picture, that's a good thing because it also means Trump can't do anything to federal judges either.

You could petition your congressman to impeach. But good luck with that, at most you probably get him some extra campaign contributions.

Two JPMorgan Chase executives, Joe Kenney and Adam Green, were found by the jury not liable, conclusions the judge said she would leave intact.

The jury was clearly prejudiced against JP Morgan Chase, except for the part where they weren't prejudiced.

JPMorgan Judge Upends $1.1 Million Whistle-Blower Verdict

BTW I love how the title isn't subtle at all.

Sounds to me like the judge had already decided who was going to win the case and was looking for any reason she could find to justify upending the jury's verdict.

You called?

Juries can often be prejudiced based on what they hear outside of the courtroom and in civil cases this can lead to outsize verdicts due to scumbag plaintiffs attorneys  imploring juries full of perhaps not too bright people to "send a message" to some perceived bad guy.

I don't know the specifics of this case but we should all be thankful that judges have this ability and that they use it.  Keeps insurance prices and consumer prices down, and allows the economy to exist with less fear of a bunch of 65iq inbred awarding eleventy billion dollars to someone who slipped on a crack in front of an Apple Store.

Judge: "the executives in question were found not liable.  Do not award punitive damages".

Jury: "we awarded punitive damages"

Judge: "i just farking told you not to do that"

Financially and economically illiterate morons: "Waaaah! Must have been bribery!  Let's put together a fascist list and put the judges name on it!"

Double back pay for over 8 years of litigation, totally sounds like this jury was out of control.

"She said she believed the evidence showed that Sharkey was fired for lying and that a rational jury couldn't have found that she reasonably believed the diamond broker violated any laws, such as money laundering or fraud, spelled out in the Sarbanes-Oxley protections."

The judge decided the jury was wrong and has decided to oppose the jury's findings.

So basically nothing you claimed above applies in any way.

Ball of Confusion: A jury has every right to ignore a judge's instructions and rule the way they want to.

and the judge can play god and say that the voice of the people doesn't matter. which this one just did.

what the fark does it matter if we even HAVE juries if that's the case?

we do not have representation in this nation. we have businesses running everygodamnthing.

Yeah, and?  Doesn't stop unpopular, controversial, antisocial, fringe, mentally handicapped, or racial or cultural minorities from being convicted and sent to prison all the time. Your peers may hate you. Corporations should suffer the same.
