Why would anyone build the Burn Khalifa?

At one point, it's just a bunch of classless rich people with more money than sense entering a dick-measuring contest only a very few are aware exists.,

Something like the Packard-Bentley?

You can do it with aluminum. Top fuel cars run around 8000 HP.

And they get that out of only about 8.2 liters, so it's not like 5000 hp out of an engine 4 liters larger than that is mythical.

Sorry friend, but putting any engine besides a Merlin in that is pure farking heresy.  I don't care if the replacement engine makes 10 trillion horse powers and cures cancer while cleaning  pollution - you don't fark with the Merlin.

Because it's a challenge.  Engineering things that haven't been done before is fun because it's a challenge.  Building a car has taught me that I like making things more than I like cars.  I get excited if I need to make a new part.  I still want to drive the car.

I also liked the fact it was two pushrod V8's smashed together by a guy in the arse end of nowhere. That alone tells me that the Dubai backers were laughed out of the building of anyone with an actual clue on how to do this properly.

If this was Cosworth or even Shelby making it I would give it a chance at being a real project that will make the grade with the power. But they would want millions of $/£'s to do this properly.

It is a one off V16 block machined that way, they didn't weld or attach two V8's together.

SME is a legit engine builder, check out Tom Bailey's cars sometime.

There's absolutely no reason to add 5000hp "properly" to any car.  You *want* a hot rodder who understands that the idea is to get 5280ft in minimal time and a nice speed that looks impressive is the entire point of this car.  You simply can't lay down that type of power for more than a few seconds, you will be hitting every other limit in the car even if the engine could supply it for longer (it takes a few seconds to get beyond traction limit for three digits, than you get rocketed toward whatever your maximum speed might be (presumably somewhere between 200-300mph) and you will hit that seconds later).

Whether this type of engine is suited for that few seconds of power is another question, but the whole idea of "properly" providing 5000hp is a joke (unless you are talking boats, planes, or huge generators).  Yes, I wouldn't be at all surprised if those cams aren't welded together and are separate V8 camshafts.  Don't even ask what forces are on the bottom end, but hopefully they will find a supplier with top fuel experience.

Yeah, it doesn't matter whether it's cars or computers.

Eliminate one bottleneck, and that only frees you to run up against the next bottleneck.

Allison V-1710 says what? Merlin came later, the Allison was first. The definitive P-51D used the Packard V-1650-7, a modified license-built Merlin. Any of the three would be correct for the P-51.

Because they can.  Which is a perfectly good reason to do most things.

I recall watching the video for the car this is supposed to go into and being quite sure that the aero was plywood or mdf mockup.  Right around the 1 minute mark:

It is if you want any semblance of longevity out of it.    But this is car territory so expensive that rebuild costs aren't even a factor.   AMG's Project One (for the few that even get to buy one) will need a full engine rebuild every 30k miles.

Yes, because Shelby is somehow more of a motor builder than MRE.    Jesus H Christ, FARK needs a dedicated auto tab or something.

That puppy doesn't have to do much RPM wise, It's all about torque with a ship engine like that.
It probably doesn't even go 200 RPM but it puts out absurd amount of horsepower and is extremely
efficient..Some big marine diesel engines can get 50% efficiency.
