And just the day before, Bill O'Brien said that he wasn't sure Kaepernick would be a good fit because he hadn't played in a while.  So then you go sign someone who hasn't played in over 3 years?

At this point I feel like BOB is working to help Kaepernick's collusion case.

You've got a pending lawsuit over your heads so why not manufacture additional evidence for your accuser?

Well, the Colts hired and haven't fired Chuck Pagano so....you are definitely correct, submitter.

They could've signed Josh Freeman.

All team owners have to do is give the illusion that they're trying to win, and the suckers will give them money with no questions. At least churches lie with lofty goals when they con their rubes. "You'll get to see Granddad in the forever mall in the sky" is just as blatant a lie as "the Browns have a legitimate shot this year."

I expect a phone call from my brother informing me that Pete Carroll wants him to start at left tackle for the Seahawks.

I'd have a lot more sympathy for CK if he was any good at football.  Some crappy qb getting a job ahead of another crappy qb isn't a big deal.  Wake me when Tebow is qb'ing a team again.  Then he has a legitimate gripe.

It amazes me how everyone forgets how crappy kap played before he got benched for Blaine Gabbert.

Even after his great start he went to shiat and was not accurate in his passing

I'm presuming that next well see them hiring athletes from other sports as QB. "Pitching is throwing a ball too, right?"

"That uh might be a problem"

I haven't seen anyone talk about the possible salary issues with taking Kaepernick. Would Kaepernick be willing to play for league minimum like several of the other quarterbacks that have been hired in his stead? With salary caps, if a team is already close to it, then they would have to get rid of a player that makes the same amount they would have to pay Kaepernick. That's what happened with the Titans, hired a third string QB at league minimum and let go a backup lineman at the league minimum. Kaepernick seems like he wants a starters salary, or close to it, to play backup. This may not be the case for every team, but it is an issue.

I'd argue that the fact he doesn't have a job now currently has less to do with his social activism and more to do with social and classical media in general.  He's caught in a whirlwind of coverage that has outgrown it's original source.  At this point, it is similar to what happened to Tebow: media is so enamored with why he didn't get signed that they've manufactured the story to keep telling itself in perpetuity to the point where the story itself is what is tainting his employment opportunities rather than what the story was originally about.

While it may have started as a "You're not a big enough star/talent to overcome your distraction" has now become "You are no longer the distraction. but the story about you is the distraction and there's nothing you can do about it."

I believe the only ways Kaep is going to get another shot is the same way Tebow did when this same thing happened to him.  Either a team is going to have a star player do something so socially stupid that signing Kaep will be the distraction for that (see: Philly signing Tebow right after Riley Cooper's racist rant came out on video) or he goes to the CFL for a bit to prove his talent.

/See also: CNN's coverage of missing planes.  The narrative quickly migrates from the plane itself to the networks coverage of the plane.

very much this. He's a shiatty quarterback who can't make reads, can't make touch throws, doesn't read the defense and doesn't go through as progressions. He simply a bad quarterback.
Now is he being kind of blackballed? I would say so , because he's a giant pain in the ass ...but that's part of the value to a franchise .

If you're  good enough to win in spite being a giant pain in the ass then you get to keep playing; if you're not ...well ...

That was the first thing I thought of too. Teams have salary caps. So they dumped McGloin to pick up somebody they thought might be better than McGloin, which isn't saying much. Now if you're a Texans team that's thinking of picking up Kaepernick, that means you're dumping Tom Savage. Which might well be a good idea, but how big of an improvement is that this late in the year if he hasn't played in your offense?

Has the reverse been proven true??

If I were Kaepernick, getting out there and saying that I would love to be signed by any team for second or third string, or practice team QB, for even the league minimum would seem to help his cause out even more.

So, he retweeted a tweet that allegedly speaks for him... But he has never come right out and said as much in his own words, even with all the publicity and media attention he is afforded, and how much attention such a statement would get, since it would make the NFL owners he is going after look even worse.

I would not call that being "refuted" 100%.

Dolphins beat him senseless last year and no one mentions that.
Guy is mediocre at best, and brings far too much baggage with him. Last thing a down team needs is a media whore.

Everything else aside, I feel bad for this kid.  Dude fell out of the league, probably never thought he'd have another shot, and now gets called up to the show only to have his introductory article in SI (and no doubt countless other outlets) focus on  "WHAR KAEP?!?!!?"  Regardless of whether one thinks CK should be on a team, let this guy have his day in the sun.

I would hope the takeaway from all this is your favorite team doesn't care about winning so much as the illusion of wanting to win. If you're giving any money to a team that went for a Trubisky, a McGloin, or a Weeden in this season, you're better off taking the money you'd otherwise give them and starting a bonfire with it.

Kap always refutes the 10 mil story, but never corrects it with what he actually wants.
2-5 mil is too much, and I doubt he wants less than that but until he actually says something about it and corrects the record we have to assume he wants to much for his skills. Or go with racism, because the NFL hates black people or something.

They could pay kaepernick a few hundred grand to hold a clipboard for a few months, instead they're going to pony up 50 million in a collusion lawsuit.

The Vikings have been one snap away from playing Kyle Sloter, a rookie from Northern Colorado, for a while. Kaep should have been signed by now. I'm sick of the "he's so shiatty" excuse. There are plenty of shiatty QB's who are worse than Kaep who are currently employed.

Nor would I say that one report from back in March is conclusive evidence that Colin Kaepernick is turning down teams who offer him less than Jay Cutler-levels of pay each season.

2017-11-08 11:29:55 AM
CK doesn't make sense as anything but a starter, because the circus he brings with him isn't worth it for a backup.  That only leaves a handful of possibilities.  Of those it only makes sense to look at teams that have playoff possibilities.  That leaves the packers and the cardinals.  GB is going to play out with their guy they have, which leaves the cards.  They have Stanton, so CK may be an upgrade but I don't think the scheme matches play styles.

I mean this is pretty damn false.  He's not a great QB but he's not a bad QB.  Plus there have been plenty of bad QBs signed recently and some downright terrible QBs currently starting for teams that could still compete for the playoffs so your reasoning simply doesn't hold up.

If SB51 was scripted(Edelman's catch,Hightower's strip sack, etc.) Then the NFL has the absolute best choreographers the world has ever seen.

Honestly I don't think he really even wants to play because then people will remember how crappy he is. At this point his legend is growing and all the SJWs are making him out to be one of the best QBs of all time.

2017-11-08 11:35:40 AM
If there was collusion within the league he would get signed.  I know that sounds backwards, but think about it.  The Browns could sign him and sit him and this would all go away.  They could release him at season's end and the lawsuit goes away.

The funniest thing is the best fit for him is probably San Francisco and that ain't gonna happen.
