The Trump administration will stop at no lengths to smother climate science.

This one kinda grinds my gears.

Scientific discoveries should be free.

For example, I've used the internet to discover that if you mix your semen, blood, feces, and urine together and let it ferment for 40 days and 40 nights in a special heated alchemical flask you might create homunculus.

However, my experiment was cut short by my landlord after only one week. What I discovered is that while you might not create a homunculus, you can completely lose your security deposit.

Ah yes... The Pirate Sciences. Does Polly, in fact, want a cracker? Or does she not...

I used to confident about our methods of peer-reviewed science and published papers. Now I realize the whole damn thing is a scam.

You know what? "Kilowatt-hour per sol" is a pain in the ass to say. I'm gonna invent a new scientific unit name. One kilowatt-hour per sol is... it can be anything... um... I suck at this... I'll call it a "pirate-ninja."

Our modern world full of internets, heart transplants, and particle accelerators might disagree with you.

It's not that science is bunk. It's that the current process of peer review is corrupt and both permits junk science to be vetted and prevents legitimate research from being accepted based on who is writing it, not the contents.

This is a toughie. I'm not super fond of the business practices of some (many) of these publishers. But the site organizer is anti-West (as in she actually stated this openly) and supportive of Putin and all that jazz. And actual copyright violation is something I neither seek nor promote.

Curiously she briefly blocked access to the site to folks from Russia because a lot of Russian scientists seem to be West-friendly and one of them named a parasitoid wasp species after her. How silly! I would consider that an honor! Parasitoid wasps are one of the most badass of species and many are heroes to various plants by targeting their pests.

If you would like to see how other organizations, including the USA Government are instead promoting free and open flow of scientific research, check out CHORUS:

CHORUS funder participants. For some reason I thought there were more organizations than just USA Government, but thus far only one organization from Japan has joined up and that was just this past September. It can only grow from here, though.
