Guess it's too early for the "this is all in the past, he's totally cool now" idiots to spam this thread too?

Much like Pittsburgh, Gay Talese was adequately named.

Well, for one thing, he wrote a book about a hotel owner spying on his customers having sex that turned out to be complete bullshiat.

As a Gay Man  who came of age in the 80s and early 90s I hope for his sake Mr.Rapp does not have any thing in his past that will come back to haunt him.

If Harvey had PIs than spacey will have his too.

Yeah, he was one of the New Journalists around the same time as Tom Wolfe, Hunter S. Thompson, Joan Didion, and others.  His work hasn't held up nearly as well as any of the people I just mentioned, though.

Kevin said that too. That's the whole farking problem.

Along with people like Truman Capote, Hunter S. Thompson, Joan Dideon, and Tom Wolfe he helped create the narrative style of journalism. He's actually written some pretty interesting stuff, but he's also a Grade-A asshole. Most notoriously he either actively participated in a peeping-tom setup at a motel OR he lied about actively participating in a peeping-tom setup at a motel. Why he is still consuming oxygen is just one of life's oddball mysteries.

From the article:

Gesturing to the roomful of media titans sipping champagne around him, he added, "You know something, all of us in this room at one time or another did something we're ashamed of... "

Sure, I've done things I've regretted, but I've never sexually assaulted anyone. My regrets are from times I've embarrassed myself or missed great opportunities. This makes me think this guy has done some really farked up shiat and has rationalized it to himself as "everyone does it".

I do not agree with "just suck it up".

However....
I am sure there are a few instance of the many, MANY accounts of sexual misconduct that weren't any where near traumatizing at all or not as predatory/one-sided advance as described. Sadly people, men and women, love attention. With this whole "#metoo" stuff, I am almost 100% positive some people making public claim are like "Oh boy... I want to get in on this".

No one in particular. I just know how shiatty people can be.

Shoulda just backspaced that last word and stopped typing right there, champ.  People like you are part of the problem, with your whataboutism.  Sure, an innocent person having his life sullied by false accusations is a problem. It's just orders of magnitude less frequent and serious than the real problem.  Tell you what, once we've dealt with the prevalence of unchecked assault, we'll handle false claims right after that, mkay?

So you are saying not one of those in every single case of the recent #metoo claims (think about how many we are talking about) not one of them just now saw what's going on and all of a sudden developed feelings about a situation that happened years ago?

I never even said anything about fake claims. These situations, for the most part, aren't rape and you should stop acting like they are. Spacey is an EXTREME case, as is the Weinstein predator. These situations are something most people have experienced. If you are saying people that make a pass at another person and mistakenly get handsy is always traumatizing thing all the time to everyone then I don't know what to say to you.

I know it feels good to post that sanctimonious shiat like what you just posted to me, but maybe you should understand what they are saying first. And if you have to be irrational about this, please tell me when its okay to consider all possibilities in these situations.

While I am sure that some people made something up, I am also sure that this is extremely common and more people didn't speak up during the #metoo thing (which is about all forms of sexual abuse, not just rape) than could have. The majority of women and almost none of the men I know who experienced sexual assault said nothing. It is embarrassing to talk about, and, in many cases, doing so would reopen old wounds and force contact with abusers.

I am not even getting to the "made stuff up" point. How the hell would I know? I am just saying some of these stories I am hearing are pretty benign if I am honest. Having your ass grabbed by someone that essentially guessed wrong is not an "Oh my god, I must share my story with the public years after the fact" situation by a lot of people.

I've had women presumptuously grab me. I was cool with it sometimes and sometimes I wasn't. It happened, I dealt with it however I felt about it at the time, and moved on. I simply could not imagine airing this shiat out to the public years after the case, though. I am NOT saying people have to react like me. However, don't tell me I am some rare breed of person and I am out of the norm with something virtually everyone experiences.

I know just enough about Gay Talese to know that his opinion on this probably wasn't worth paying attention to.

When homie kicks off, the autopsy's going to reveal the inside of his skull's been some kind of sentient syphilis blister since 1979.

As someone upthread noted, either that book he wrote is bullshiat, or he actively assisted a complete perv in spying on people who were naked and/or having sex.  It's bad either way.
