Where are the experts who can point out whether the infection of immunized users could have been prevented if people who COULD have been immunized and chose not to - had been immunized. Less vectors for the disease to propagate and all that...

A friend of my wife got mumps last year. It turns out those childhood vaccinations don't last forever. If you're an adult, you should strongly consider getting re-vaccinated.

That's 60 hundreds. And that's terrible.

They're not liars. And they're not stupid. They'd just literally risk their children being permanently disabled, disfigured, or killed rather than entertain even the most remote risk of their children landing somewhere on the autism spectrum.

I really have to give up the feeling that we can help these idiots and instead start making money off them.

Gwyneth Paltrow figured this out a while ago. I'll follow her lead.

Except that they lie about that motivation. So they're liars.  And they have no desire to do basic critical analysis on something that is key to their health and survival at the most basic level.  So they're stupid as well.

So yeah, they're both stupid and lying.

Mumps can cause sterility, so it might be a self correcting problem.

Someone who fervently believes that children are better off dead, permanently disfigured, and/or disabled than autistic is most definitely stupid.  I mean, they're also evil, but they are very, very stupid.

They're not stupid: most of them are highly educated, wealthy professionals. And yes, they're liars. Because they're trapped between a rock (actual, scientific evidence that not vaccinating their kids carries the risk of contracting diseases like mumps, measles, whooping cough, or even polio) and a hard place (being willing to publicly admit that they would rather have their child take those risks-their decision, not the child's, of course-than accept even the slightest risk that their child be diagnosed as autistic). Essentially, which flavor of a$$hole are they willing to own up to? And from an outsider-looking-in perspective, sure-it looks stupid.

It's like 1st World Problems game theory, except with real children and public health policy.

Except most of the people being put at risk aren't the ones making the decision or even those whose parents made such a decision.

It will mostly affect those people who either couldn't not safely get immmnized pr those for whom the immunization was ineffective.

They're also inflicting those risks on other people's children, as well as their own.  This is what gets me, they knowingly put their own offspring at risk, and are also completely fine with harming everyone else.

Just got a Tdap and the mega-flu vaccinations. The latter is for people over 60. First time I've had any reaction to the flu shot, but it was just reddening of the skin.

The Tdap, on the other hand (arm), is a bear. I'm glad that's a once a decade.

I had all the childhood diseases, except polio, so I get every vaccination available. Still have scars from chicken pox.

The vocal anti-vaxxer in my office is also a chem-trail believer and thinks dinosaurs didn't exist because, and I swear to all the gods I am not making this up, "It's not believable that they could just start digging in some random place and find dinosaur bones every time."

A few years ago I had a high dose chemotherapy. Discuss some of my vaccines to go away. Including the mumps.

Because I've had a transplant and I'm heavily immunosuppressed (Hense the cancer) I cannot get the mumps vaccine because it is a live vaccine which might give me the mumps.

F*** anyone who doesn't get their kids vaccinated. Because even be around somebody with the mumps puts me at high riskperiod and swollen testicles is not across I want a bear because people are too f****** stupid to get their kids vaccinated.

There are very few things I feel this way about, but... it should be mandatory. No exceptions.
