India and Pakistan are going to start WWIII. Because Pakistan does not have the power to stop the terrorists who call its country home. India cannot possibly get rid of the terrorists that are attacking them, without invading Pakistan. Pakistan has said that they will respond aggressively to any invasion of their land (read: nuclear bombs). India has so far been unimpressed with Pakistan's attempts to fix the problem. And while we are being pressured to support India in this, China has thrown their support behind their long time ally Pakistan.

So with all these ingerdient stirred together in a pot what do you get?

admittedly, i know nothing about the kashmir region, other than the fact that two nuclear powers are fighting over it, seemingly for no reason other than they both want more sand, or mountains, or useless terrain. who knows; there could be untapped mineral or oil resources there, but if they start chucking nukes at each other, nobody's gonna want radioactive land, anyway.

Well right now we can not back away from the India/Pakistan problem. We declared war on <B>ALL</B> terrorists and anybody that harbors them. And right now India has a valid claim that they were attack by terrorists, the evidence points to those terrorists being supported by Pakistan. Hell, the two most prominent Kashmiri extremist groups were named as terrorist organizations by our country.

To keep our credibility we HAVE to side with India on this. Now hopefully we can find some kind of peaceful outcome here, but that does not look like it is going to work this time. India wants to go to war with Pakistan, they believe that they will be supported in doing so, because they are doing the same thing the US just did.

The US has inadvertantly lit a fire that we don't know how to put out.

Well it wouldn't be the first time that our international policy has gotten us into a compromising position. Perhaps another one that we're not sure how to get out of. That's what makes life fun.

As good (or bad) as our international policy is the world's a better place for it. But it's for that same reason that we're referred to as devils, etc. So where do we go next? I may be way out, but it's Israel over Pakistan and India over Pakistan.

The last thing we need is for the U.S. to be charging full speed ahead *again* and then pulling back halfway into the project. Wel keep that line of thought up - or not willing to support people for the same reasons that we neded their support and the next time we're looking for an "friend" in the region we may be all alone.

I'm polishing my "Polieceman of the world" badge right now. =) The one thing I do like is the lack of coverage from the front (as compared to Desert Storm and such).

If our leaders are going to make a command decision and our boys (and girls) are going to be spilling blood in the mud the common folk don't need to know about it back here (as far as live video and such). Sure if we lose troops pass the info along, but no more of this press tagging along on missions coverage crap. Cause when they see blood or coffins or draped flags the sheep suddenly develop a collective consciousness and want to pack up.

I'm glad we don't know every little thing that the government does cause I'd rather be left out of a loop or two rather than the headache of folks out there not thinking it's "right".
