There is a theme developing in Hollywood: if your talents make lots of money, build careers, and overwhelm traditional power structures, you can be an absolute swamp-stomping scumbag. You can fark with people. The people farked with just need to bite their pillow; the people who see those farked with just need to turn away. And everyone gets paid.

When the time comes, I hope Uma leaves blood on the ceiling.

I respect what she said. It is hard to learn that you sometimes need to work through something inside yourself before, as August11 mentioned, you paint the ceiling with blood. I get why people are telling their stories, and that's a choice. It takes a lot to stand up and say "This happened to me." You're open to scorn, ridicule, and the knowledge that it'll be brought up for the rest of your career. And I get why someone isn't ready to talk about something so traumatic that you spend years trying not to think about it, and haven't dealt with.

For those who think it's easy to talk about assault, or being hurt, you haven't been hurt badly enough.

"developing?"

This has been the culture and SOP since it became prevalent on the West Coast!

Maybe it wasn't always Producers or Directors or deal-makers....but it's a trope that has existed in Hollywood for so long because it has continued to be relevant.

You can bet that for every woman that has come forward with a rape or assault or harassment story there is another one or two that just went along with it, got their starring role and is too ashamed to admit it.

Uma Thurman is great, and she's an incredible actress in everything she does. Still glad she wasn't Galadriel though, Cate Blanchett was perfect and Uma would not have fit right.

I would have told you the fact that Thurman was willing to work with him meant he was likely not a creeper, or at least hid his bullshiat around her very well. Guess we'll see.

No. She wouldn't have worked with him on many projects if she had a problem with him. They say she dated him for a while, too. And there have been no reports that QT does anything abusive or rapey, save perhaps for his foot fetish and tendency to linger on Uma's feet with a camera.

But none of her roles match the remarkable emotional control she demonstrated during a recent interview. . . Thurman's response is a striking, real-world example of emotional intelligence-. . .Now that's what I call emotional intelligence.

Or maybe she's just giving you a more-articulate-than-average brushoff.

Easy pickings, given their history.
However, there are some logic problems with that hypothesis. First, QT had no influence in Hollywood when Pulp Fiction was being made and Thurman was already a rising star. So any sexual power plays were probably out. And if he was a creeper, I have a tough time believing she would have stayed in contact with him for a decade afterwards to get Kill Bill made.

I'm wagering her stories go back to the pre-pulp fiction days, like when she was a teenage model or when she was starting to get movie parts. One that really stands out to me is Johnny B Good. Teen sex comedy, Anthony Michael Hall at the crest of his popularity, and Downey when his drug addictions were starting to really take hold.

Damn she's pissed.

But I don't think it's at Quentin. Way too much history. She'd have cut him off if he tried something. Harvey, OTOH...

And the actors didn't perform the sex acts in Nymphomaniac. Body doubles did. Did you really think Charlotte Gainsbourgh was going to be DPed in a movie?

So, with her announcement, I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I'm fairly sure she's joked about his obsession with her feet from way back and it never sounded like it was a problem for her or their friendship.

But yeah, let's wait to hear what the lady actually has to say. I kind of thought that was the point.

I wonder about Bridget Fonda. She walked away from her movie career 15 years ago and has barely been seen since. Something seems to have burned her on Hollywood.

She married Danny Elfman, had a kid. He's probably 14 or 15 now. My guess? She wanted to be a mom for a while and figured Danny's Tim Burton money was enough to live on.

Yeah, I have to think she's thinking about how to string Weinstein up by specific and random body parts rather than Tarantino. I have gotten the impression that Tarantino admires and respects her, and I would think he acted such.

No.  I was pointing out having worked with and publicly having praised someone seems to mean nothing in this scenario.

Before that, Fonda was in automobile accident that put her out of action for a while. In addition, she never got that big role (e.g., a lead in box office blockbuster or an Oscar-nominated part) which would've taken her career to another level and kept her on casting lists for a longer time. It also didn't help that a lot of people thought the only reason she even had a career was her family name.  With all of that, it's easy to see why she chose to drop off the Hollywood radar.

They always seemed to be genuinely friendly with each other. I'm guessing he only ever demanded to give her a foot massage. Often enough that it got pretty tedious, granted, but still, not so bad in the big scheme of things.

Bjork's basically called him out in all but name. I wouldn't be surprised if he did or tried something.
I've never liked his movies either, being a weird director does not equal being a good director.

Not to mention that Rose McGowan was in both Grindhouse movies around the same time Weinstein had blacklisted and Rodriguez put her in basically as a screw you to Weinstein and all the crap that was going on in Hollywood. If QT was doing sleazy shiat, I don't think either McGowan or Rodriguez would have tolerated it.

Hell, the whole scene with McGowan's character being murdered by Stuntman Mike takes on an interesting subtext after seeing how she was victimized by Weinstein, with her career being killed by him. In retrospect, you have to wonder if Death Proof was intended to be a bit of a metaphor, with women being victimized by old boys' club of Hollywood and then turning the tables on their tormentor.

It took a long, long time to type those five letters. And I'm just a little nobody from a one-horse town.

I can't imagine what it takes when you are Somebody, the person who did it is Somebody, and you know that this will dog you the rest of your career. That takes hella guts.

Uma sounds like she has her stuff together. I've liked her since Dangerous Liasons (enough to read the book too). When interviewed she usually comes across as intelligent and thoughtful. This response just reinforces that opinion for me. She has mastered think before you speak, and the five finger death punch.
