someone needs to go wash the hate off of themselves
2004-06-02 10:55:34 AM
Abridged version is much better. Yeah! Use that oil up people!!! We're not at peak yet! yeah!
2004-06-02 10:56:40 AM
Too bad we don't have the refineries to handle this "new flow"

damn shame...

this morning on SquawkBox they said that the price of oil has between 10-15$ per barrel factored into the current price - all based on fear
2004-06-02 10:57:59 AM
Monkeys "may" fly out of my ass.
2004-06-02 10:58:02 AM
fark this more oil garbage. let's get some legislation that imposes a huge tax for cars that run at anything less thant 40 miles per gallon. Bye bye Hummer dealership!
2004-06-02 10:58:04 AM
Die already, idiot cartel
2004-06-02 10:58:34 AM
Won't make a difference if Al Qaeda blows up a Saudi Oil facility.
2004-06-02 10:59:19 AM
Wasn't this predicted a few months ago in Woodward's book?

He predicted the Saudis would start lowering the price of oil to help Shrub get reelected. I remember Prince Bandar going on Larry King to deny it.

2004-06-02 10:59:36 AM
Whose move is it now? I get so confused during these international chess games.
2004-06-02 10:59:48 AM
Wisg, it's those huge vehicles that keep gas prices down. If everyone ran around in 40+ mpg cars, do you think that the price of petrol wouldn't go up?

Ask England about that one.
2004-06-02 10:59:53 AM
Fantastic, the oil's about to flow, the sun is out, the birds are singing, and I just got my first promotion in 5 years at a job where I do very little except skive on the internet for 8 hours a day. Life is sweet.
2004-06-02 10:59:56 AM
2004-06-02 11:00:06 AM
wow. i was the victim of a changed headline.

makes sense to do that. they don't want prices too high or it will stifle demand and americans will go back to smaller, more fuel-efficient cars.
2004-06-02 11:00:11 AM
Why not use up all the world's reserves to lower gas prices so low that Bush is assured reelection!

Vote Bush/Cheney 2004.

The "Plan and Conserve for our Children's Future" administration.

everyone start the chant

/should have drinlled in ANWR in 99
2004-06-02 11:01:22 AM
that won't help too much in the short-term, only one with spare capacity is SA and the capacity they have is low grade stuff
2004-06-02 11:01:34 AM
I hear the Venezualians still have their panties in a bunch after they found out the US helped fund the attempted assasination of their leader. And now he's one of the biggest sticks in the mud regarding opec. Interesting how that works!
2004-06-02 11:01:48 AM
on the other hand , they may not.

get back to me when "may" becomes "has" or "definitely is"

Cap'nBurly - good point. I will amend my wish. Cars that run on renewable resources, and the money and incentives to fund such research.

"Terror premium on oil"

Prices are $41 a barrel. These guys are saying it should be $28 based on demand once they increase production.

Who wants to guess that the price at the pump wont drop near as much in relation to the price drop on the barrel.

farking oil companies will get us used to these higher prices, drop it $0.10/gal or so and we all think we are doing better. Meanwhile they will pocket the extra $0.60/gal and make lots of $$
2004-06-02 11:03:05 AM
So, its Bush's fault that gas prices are so high (he "should have done more to control pricing")? Now its a conspiracy with the White House and OPEC to get Bush re-elected?

Why would OPEC want Bush re-elected?
2004-06-02 11:03:11 AM
Grundular: Nice Bruce Almighty reference.

Now all we need is:

1) More refineries built

2) Someone to find a frickin alternate power source.
2004-06-02 11:04:03 AM
OPEC increases oil production = Bush bad

OPEC fails to increase oil production = Bush bad

It really has gotten to the point with many of you that you are perfectly happy to abandon all pretense of rationality and consistency in favor of feeding your preternatural hatred of President Bush. You have become what you despised a scant 5-6 years ago.
2004-06-02 11:04:50 AM
Damn the envrironment

My SUV needs FUEL

I have to get to my job in Florida.

I need my hummer

I never put anything in the back either!!!!!
2004-06-02 11:05:03 AM
Well, they did promise Bush lower oil prices before the election.
2004-06-02 11:05:07 AM
Geez - oil prices go up, Dems say "Bush caused it"

Oil prices could go down, Dems say "Bush caused it so he can get reelected"

How nice it must be to sit there and take pot shots at people actually doing things!

Sorry for the troll, I'm trying to avoid doing that now, but you do realize this is how it sounds, right?
2004-06-02 11:05:48 AM
This is good news! The wells are refilling themselves, OPEC is going to full production. I think I may just go SUV shopping tonight. A new Tahoe for my wife, might just get a Hummer for me.
2004-06-02 11:05:50 AM

You had me for a sec. This is Fark, remember to use /sarcasm
2004-06-02 11:06:30 AM
too bad..

They'll vote to start it up again in one month and the price drop won't hit here until late september when prime driving season is up.

Price gouging @ it's finest!

"fark this more oil garbage. let's get some legislation that imposes a huge tax for cars that run at anything less thant 40 miles per gallon. Bye bye Hummer dealership!"

This is supposed to be a free society with the people having the right to choose, whether it's what they drive or how they live their lives. More government social engineering through the tax code is not the answer, but being from the People's Republic of Madison, you might not understand that.

Oh, come on they are just sore losers that wished Gore was president. get over it, pussies

Actually, you're wrong. The reason fuel prices are so high here in Europe is, simply, an insane amount of tax placed on the fuel. A lot more tax than in the US, I can assure you. I do live here, you know.

Way, way before October, tin foil hat crowd!

In related news, get yourselves a real car, sonny!

OPEC can kiss my ass. So can Dubya.
2004-06-02 11:07:06 AM
Let's see you fit 25 sheets of plywood into your Civic. Some of us actually need bigger vehicles. Better yet, let's see you spread your cheeks and intake my 15mpg truck.

Go save a rainforest and get your 1500lb car out of my way.
2004-06-02 11:07:14 AM
Refineries are at 96% of production capacity this month. Where is all this extra raw crude supposed to be processed? Or stored?
2004-06-02 11:07:15 AM
What was the original headline? Somebody please answer before this becomes another flamewar...
2004-06-02 11:07:51 AM
OPEC reacts only when threatened with conservation. If people lived closer to work, drove smaller cars and used mass transit, gas would be $0.50 a gallon. Those of you who drive SUV's have no right to biatch.
2004-06-02 11:08:31 AM
WooHoo! I'm buying oil shots for everybody.
2004-06-02 11:08:51 AM
Good thing we don't have a free market economy 'round here or cartels like that would be illegal.
2004-06-02 11:09:41 AM
I, for one, do not welcome our OPEC overlords.
2004-06-02 11:09:54 AM
HappyDaddy try:

OPEC fails to increase oil production for basically entire term, insteads clamps down on it to raise prices = Bush bad

OPEC mysteriously decides it's time to increases oil production to full production just in time to drop prics for the run-up to the election = Bush bad

I can't believe how blindly some of you just support this wing-nut.
2004-06-02 11:10:01 AM
Q: How can anyone complain about gas prices going down?!?!?!?
A: They hate the poor.

Q: How can anyone complain about gas prices going up?!?!?!?
A: They hate rich people using public transportation.

StrikitRich -

have you ever been to Madison? They'd shoot my idea down there too, then protest me saying something, then go smoke some weed and listen to bob marley, all sitting in their dirty co-op with their hemp necklaces and frisbee golf.
2004-06-02 11:10:55 AM
comslave: Thanks for the simplification of a complicated issue. Show me how to live close to my job in DC and not have to worry about crime, schools, or housing prices (doesn't drive an SUV..takes mass transit half the time).
