Well to be fair, her average finish is 24th... which is not something you can say about all but 20 or so other drivers in NASCAR.  It doesn't win anything, but it doesn't mean she's a throwaway driver.  There are a lot worse- they bring 40 drivers to the track every week.

What I am surprised about is why Almirola?  While I defended Danica in general in my.... comment above... he averages around 20th.  In pretty good equipment.  Why not Kenseth?

Because it's STEWART Hasse Racing:

While running in equipment that other drivers averaged 9.9 (first) and 11.5 (third) last season.

Yeah she is probably good enough of a driver to be an also-ran that nobody other than the most obsessive fans recognize.

She should've gone to the #5 ages ago.  Now, she'll be lucky to get a ride in Cup, even with GoFas Racing.

Petty isn't pretty good equipment these days... or any days since 1983, really.

This is probably Almirola's one shot in a decent car to do something.

Of course, if Bubba outperforms him, well...

Matt is more expensive than Aric

Kenseth is reportedly asking 2003 Champion money in a "You pay for your own ride" era.

We probably won't see Matt anymore after Homestead.

  Question:  Is the preparation/quality/speed/handling of the cars with the most wins demonstrably better than that of the cars driven by perennial also-rans?  Or, put another way:  If Danica  were allowed to drive a 'winning' car would she be capable of winning or would she still finish 20th....

Danica is driving a "winning car".

Her teammates the last few years have been three series champions, two of whom won championships while with this team, and a Daytona 500 winner this year. Oh, and a guy who itches a lot and one with no neck. The cars have never been the problem.

Now, the setup and handling of the car is a key factor in success, and Danica doesn't know how to do that. And they've never found a crew chief who could Harry Hyde her so they could communicate and get the car right.

Yes, the best teams have better cars.

But Danica Patrick is one one of those best teams driving one of those better cars.

Does Dania have a ride next season ???

Seems like a lot of good drivers (and danica) are losing their rides or sponsors and there aren't enough spots to go around

She does not. There is speculation she may retire or "take a break". Here's the current Cup merry-go-round for next year:

- William Byron - > 5 -> Kasey Kahne -> 95 -> Michael McDowell -> 34 -> Landon Cassill.
Cassill's future is unclear.
The 5 will become the new 24, the current 24 (Chase Elliott) will become the new 9.

- Bubba Wallace -> 43 -> Aric Almirola -> 10 - Danica Patrick.
Danica's future unclear

- 27 -> Paul Menard -> 21 -> Ryan Blaney -> 12.
Childress' plans for the 27 haven't been announced, may not run, 12 is a new third Penske car.

- 77 -> Erik Jones -> 20 -> Matt Kenseth.
The 77 will not run next year, Kenseth's future unclear.

- Alex Bowman -> 88 -> Dale Earnhardt Jr -> NBC

I really thought Larson or Truex would end up in the 88 or the 5 with target dumping NASCAR and Truex floating around outside jgr looking in

Another big sponsor is editing jgr but i forgot who's getting burned
