Sorry state of affairs...

In the mid-80's Time-Warner-AOL-Whatever came out with "Discover" magazine, and as part of the strategy bought out nearly every accessible science magazine out there, including some that had been publishing for over a century. They then razed the field and salted the earth so there would be no competition.

/ mom was a technical editor for AAAS's "Science 80 - 81 - 82 and so on."
// stupid name really, I never did figure out how they handled the letterhead each year.

This is a crime against humanity.

If you can't afford to keep a blog running in 2017 - your blog probably should not exist.

No problem. Now we have Forbes.

I'm okay with this. If Fark were more interested in scienceblogs, it wouldn't have preferred Forbes.com for science news.

*shrug*

It still ain't right.

If you'd ever seen anything from iflscience, you'd know I was being facetious.

Could it be because they made scienceblogs completely unreadable on most devices?  This literally came up when was 15 seconds into that article.

And there is no way out of it.

Plan to follow a few good sites as they move on. Its dreadfully simple to host a wordpress site now I guess but it WAS really nice to have that centralized location to jump from blog to blog.

I had a subscription to that as a kid.  It was really good. For example it covered the story of Henrietta Lacks and HeLa cells decades before Rebecca Skloot's excellent book came out. It was sad to see it go.   AAAS sold it off to Discover and remainder of everyone's subscription was transferred to Discover.

I hope someone has archived the old content.  Lots of good stuff is there.

That was one of the articles she worked on. Fascinating story.

Was actually kinda cool, One time I answered the phone at dinnertime. "Hey mom! Some Linus Pauling guy  wants to to you..."
