Now revoke the Patiot act, DHS, TSA, and pare down ICE and stop building walls and start building bridges.

This country turned into 'Merica three days after. All modern stupidity can be traced back to that point. I remember watching co-workers, who had never once thought about the flag, this nation, or its history, suddenly buying every flag mug, flag pin, flag everything. 9/11 warped our collective brain.

Boom. Came here for this, leaving happily.

It's time to end the Forever War. It's time to stop giving our military-industrial complex a free hand even as we ignore the needs of our infrastructure and people.

And there's a shiatload of flag waving patriotic war movies and TV shows coming or are already out. Get in line for "Thank You For Your Service". Yes, that's an actual movie title.

It's a movie based on the book.

And members of the same battalion are now suing Big Pharma for giving bribes to Muqtada al-Sadr and the Mahdi Army during the surge at the same time the acts in the book went down.

Greenwald can fark right the hell off.

Trump is a product of 50 years of Republicans pandering to the Unreconstructed and Dominionists.  The only thing Trump and 2008 have in common is the Trumpster's backlash against having a black guy elected President.  And it also blatantly ignores all the heinous shiat the White House engaged in for the eight years prior, or the win-at-all-costs mentality festering on the right since the early 90s and HW Bush's defeat to Clinton.

He almost got to a point, and then he ran off the rails with his special brand of Obama Derangement Syndrome.

LarryDan43: Because Trump is a terrorist and a threat to America, but a drone strike would threaten too many US citizens?

Because there's the very real possibility that Congress has diluted its power so much via the executive misuse of the AUMF from both Obama and Trump that they may no longer be able to safely rein in our military?

Obama was almost tolerable, because although he was authorizing assassinations by farking drone and getting innocent people killed in the process, he at least appeared sane and recognized that this was a bad thing. So far, the two military operations apparently sanctioned by the Trump administration that have made the press have been disasters, with U.S. soldiers and civilians killed for no obvious reason other than "Trump wants a win," and yet the Trump administration's agitating for even more - right up to implying a nuclear goddamned war with <pick a country>.

FlashHarry: For some reason? Well, our country is being led by an out-of-control madman. That might have something to do with it.

"Trump did not appear out of nowhere. He is the logical and most grotesque expression of a variety of trends we have allowed to fester: endless war, a virtually omnipotent presidency, unlimited war powers from spying to due process-free imprisonment to torture to assassinations, repeated civil liberties erosions in the name of illusory guarantees of security, and the sustained demonization of Muslims as scary, primitive, uniquely violent Others.

A country that engages in endless war against multiple countries not only kills a lot of people but degrades its own citizenry. Trump is the rotted fruit that inevitably sprouts from such fetid roots.

Trump is not a Russian phenomenon, nor an Italian one, nor Latin American: He is distinctly and consummately American, merely the most extreme face yet from America's endless war on terror and its post-2008 lurch toward oligarchy. Pretending that Trump is some grand aberration, some radical departure from U.S. history and values, is simply a deceitful way of whitewashing what we have collectively endorsed and allowed."

It's as I've said before, and I'll say again: Russia didn't create Trump. Russia just punctured a festering boil on the backside of America and let Trump out.

I was willing to give george w. bush a chance. All indications were that he was an empty suit, but I was willing to believe that he might prove equal to the task before him.

Then he started making noises about Iraq. And Gitmo got set up.

If we had ignored 9/11 and the Scary Mooselimbs had hit us again just as hard, we would have been well ahead of where we were after george w. bush was done.

Osama bin Laughin' has killed his thousands, and george w. bush his hundreds of thousands.

If we hadn't taken the eye off the islamic terror threat we would have been in a much better place.

Clinton does share some blame- the republican witch hunt for the impeachment scandal tied up essential FBI resources and made the missile strike seem like a political distraction-but the Bush admin brazenly ignored intel about the 9/11 plot and the FBI lost 2 of the hijackers when notified they had re-entered the US.

And since 9/11, we've focused on Islamic terrorism disproportionately and the domestic terror groups have grown.

I worked nights at Home Depot answering phones at the time. Starting that night and for about a month after we got about 100 calls per night asking if we sold American flags. By Christmas we were back down to zero calls (as it had been for the full year I worked there prior to 9/11).

A friend of mine and I got into an argument about this recently.  He "kinda" agrees that too much money is dumped into the military (we're both Veterans -- he was in 'Nam), but he got riled up and told me that I "don't understand what a Conservative is" when he continued that he's sick of his taxes paying for generations of welfare recipients.  Yes, he believes blacks and Mexicans (except the good ones) live on welfare from generation to generation, on his back.  The funny thing is, he's retired and is receiving social security and doesn't see the conflict in his statement that the "freeloaders" are taking his social security.  He thinks free healthcare is bad as well and has agreed with me when I said, "So your attitude is 'fark you, I got mine'?".

I tend to think of it as "The Lost Decade." Seriously, it's as if a decade of my life was spent just working, eating, sleeping, and staying out of the way of everything. I honestly think that it contributed to my increasing anxiety and, finally, agoraphobia  in the mid-Aughts.
