Are you kidding?  I know "everyone" likes to say or think bad things about the guy/girl they don't like but it literally would not surprise me if your average 5th grader outscored him in a civics exam....by a wide margin.

I read that as "Is the President a Parrot" ?   and thought Yes, yes he is.   Subby's headline made no sense.  *sighs*   I need more coffee....

Well sure Donald Trump hates the average citizen, lies constantly, is actively dismantling the Federal Government, is at war with his own party, mocked a gold star family, mocked the previous POTUS,  mocked a US Senator for having cancer, has fired (or had quit) almost as many members of his cabinet as he's appointed and maybe he was willing to sell out the country to a hostile foreign power but does that really mean he's not a patriot?

I think we can judge by his time serving in the military just how much he cares about this country.

One must first understand a country before one can be considered a patriot of it.  Trump cannot satisfy the essential, minimum requirements for patriotism.

I mean, who else but a genuine patriot tries to f*ck a flag in public?

He does not give a flying fark about any of those people. Only if prompted will he make a move. Can you blame him? Do you know how much Foxnews he's missing having to do this presidenting stuff? No president has ever presidented as hard as Trump, believe me.

TFA mentions The President's Club. That's a great book for any amateur history nerd, even though I found it in the Barnes & Noble remainder bin. I can't see how D2S is going to avoid being the first president not invited into that club.

How many deferments?  I know you can become patriotic later like Bill O'reilly or Dick Cheney.  I really believe that Trump believes that if he had been born in the worse slum in the worse country, he would still raise up to be a billionaire playboy real estate genius that he believes he is.  Assuming his dad still gives him a coupla mil on his 21st birthday and a coupla buildings to play with.

2017-10-18 11:12:42 AM
It depends. It comes down to the ol' prescriptive-descriptive thing:

Going by the old definition ("a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion"), he's by no means a patriot. He's too self-serving.

Going by current United States usage (i.e., someone who aligns himself with right-wing nutjobbery), then yeah, he is a 'patriot' and will continue to be as long as it serves his selfish purposes.

I am honestly afraid of this being the new normal, that we will not only get disgust-fatigue from him and stop caring, but that he will have so damaged the institution of the presidency by the time he's done that there will be no honor left in it to salvage and that we will have a succession of unfit, shameful presidents that will define an era of our history.

I keep thinking about each new step lower that he takes, "if Obama had done that, the GOP would be impeaching for anything they could possibly scrape together." But Trump has had so many of those moments by now. SO many. If and when the Mueller investigation or anything else brings Trump down, it has to be devastating. It has to crush him so badly that no one will dare ever follow the Trump template to power - no party will nominate and no voter will support and no Elector will allow such a person again. I hope.

2017-10-18 11:25:31 AM
Okay, we have it now. Folks, hit "save as html" on that page, because this is the CANNONICAL EXAMPLE of "if there's a question in the headline, the answer is NO."

That aside... holy blistering pustulent globules of angel crap, HOW CAN YOU EVEN ASK THAT!?
Seriously. The only country he is patriotic about is the Grand Swamp of Trumpistan.

He was never a democrat or a republican or member of any party. Ever. Pathological narcissists are incapable of being a part of something larger than they are. It requires putting something else before your own interests... and Hair Furor isn't capable of that. He never was, he never will be. He didn't run for president out of the patriotic desire to actually make America great again, he ran out of greed and spite and possibly Russian arm twisting.

I wonder why?

A Russian patriot? Why yes, of course.

Or forgets to put his hand over his heart for the National Anthem?

2017-10-18 11:32:27 AM
Trump is the very definition of a patriot.  He loves his country above all else and would do absolutely anything, no matter how vile, unethical or illegal to see it prosper.  His devotion to his country borders on delusional and he willfully ignores any evidence that the greatest thing in the universe is anything other than his country.  He literally does not care about anyone or anything else.

Unfortunately, no one has told him that being president does not make him the personification of the country, and my above statement reads a little differently, but extremely accurately, if you replace "his country" with "himself".

The best part of this is that you know this is the reason he said nothing, he learned there was a country called Niger and his brain exploded.
