Or you shoot up an ATM and then vacuum up the cash

Woman shoots ATM with gun, then armed with a vacuum she cleans up the mess in bizarre CCTV

The thief sounds like the smartest person involved. The business owner had 200 chances to get his security sorted and the police know who he is but can't find him? Thefarkingfark?

Okay read the article, 15 chances, still....

Didn't know those things held that much money. I wonder if he goes to the local Coinstar to cash in for Amazon gift cards.

Yeah.  Something doesn't sound right about all this... The economic optics aren't just crooked, they're bent like a farking pretzel.

And he would get to keep every cent if he get a eGift card.

I assume the rest of the $185,000 went into repairing or replacing the vacuums? Or something?

Here's a thought. If there is a $1000 in coins inside that machine, then perhaps the station should empty it more often.

Maryland, my Maryland.

Emptying coins daily or more frequently is out of the question?

Most Coinstar machines these days seem to have moved to using internal cellular modems, but if you ever find one of the old ones that connected via dialup or an Ethernet connection (just look for the cable behind the machine), unplugging it will cause the Coinstar to pay cash in full, since it can't offer anything else.

Haven't tried it in a while, YMMV.

To be fair, it sounds like someone did.

Are we SERIOUSLY not talking about the old man in the video posing as television reporter Pat Collins?  That's the REAL crime here.

He said he loses about $1,000 in coins with each theft and has lost $200,000 overall.

Um... A quarter weighs about 5.5 grams. $1000 worth of quarters would weigh 22kg, nearly 50 pounds. Maybe this guy should have emptied the vacuum's coin box more than once a year?

FTFA: Tahir Muneer, the owner of the Landover Hills Exxon, said the thief has hit his location at least 15 times in three years. He said he loses about $1,000 in coins with each theft and has lost $200,000 overall.

I think this guy needs to go back to math class.

Commenters have covered the Common Core math, the leaving the money in the machines too long and the weight of the coins, but I still have a question. How can you vacuum the quarters up out of the machine as per the owner's statement? Are they then in a different machine? The same one?!

Or stop going to Vegas and losing $3M in three years.  Just pray he does not learn multiplication in a cop math class taught by Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Downside - it pays in coins.

Who knew there was so much money in suction?

2017-10-18 09:06:01 AM
Thief puts a quarter in to hear if the coin box is full.  Put a little piece of foam in the front to the coin box so it sounds empty.  Thief will have donated a quarter and will go elsewhere.  He now owes the vacuum guy only $199,999.75

If he's saying a thief made off with $1,000 in quarters, it sounds like he already has.

I'm thinking the cops know the guy has a vendetta against the accused thief, and just don't bother picking him up.

It would be funny if the security camera showed the guy putting the quarters in his pockets and then walking away and then his pants falling down.  That would be really funny.

Meh, it's not like insurance ever looks into this sort of thing.
