"Hyewon Kim, 23, travelled to the Seven Sisters cliffs in East Sussex and asked a stranger to take her picture. But as she jumped in the air for the shot she lost her footing and fell 200ft (60m)."

So where's the picture?

Eastbourne senior coroner Alan Craze recorded a conclusion of misadventure.

I'm going to have to agree with that conclusion.

So let me get this straight, with the abundance of insane "health and safety" measures that have taken the UK by storm in recent years, like the banning of hanging flower baskets on lampposts, or not being able to use step stools in stores...but yet they won't put up a farking fence for a crumbling death trap?

Yeah, people do some dumb stuff.

You know, like these guys, one of whom is totally not me but just looks exactly like me, on the edge of a karst formation with a nearly sheer 200m drop to the ocean below. If you didn't end up in the water it would only be because you were impaled on a karst spike on the way down.

img.fark.netView Full Size

/This was really dumb, but I at least secured myself in a somewhat less risky spot. The guy in the sunglasses almost went off the side twice since nearly every time he planted a foot to secure himself the rock crumbled beneath it.

//Got the hell away from that edge about four seconds after that photo was taken.

They've cordoned off a bit that has been shedding huge chunks over the last few months but they have not fenced the entire 10 km.

When I first came here, this was all cliff. Everyone said I was daft to build a fence on a cliff, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It fell into the sea. So I built a second one. That fell into the sea. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then fell into the sea. But the fourth one stayed up. And that's what you're going to get, Lad, the strongest fence in all of England.

Hmm... councils banning plants on lamp posts, is that the current outrage about "nanny states!!!!"? Well, smells a bit funny, lets google...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/suffolk/3475431.stm
But after this year's stock were weighed, filled with soil and water, the council decided they should be banned altogether on some lampposts.
Guy Smith, assistant highways manager for the county council, said they just wanted to ensure the safety of the public as some baskets were quite heavy.
The council felt they could present a safety hazard on some of the older lampposts.
"We have to be satisfied that the columns are strong and stable enough to take the weight," he said.

Oh yes, such outrage, much over-reach. *rolls eyes*

The sad thing about most of the people dying taking these kinds of photos is that, from most camera angles, you can't really tell how close to the edge you are. There's no reason to risk it. I bet she could have done her jump 15 feet back from the edge and it would have looked the same as if she was right on the edge.

The hearing was told Ms Kim, from South Korea, had been in the UK studying English at the time of her death.

There's your problem right there. If lesson one had been NOPE, this unfortunate incident could have been avoided.
