Just looking at him, I'm gonna guess Trump won't have much to say about him disrespecting the National Anthem.

Do they really think it's a good idea to challenge Boston sports fans like that?

I'm enjoying the mental picture of a couple of fully lubricated massholes out in the woods trying to get the bear cub, then drive it downtown w/o getting busted for drunk driving or the bear, then trying to sneek it into the Gahden, then trying to get the by now very grumpy hungry little guy over the glass w/o needing to go the the ER.

I'd actually have an issue if it were alive when it hit the ice; they're actually sentient, in the same way that many corvids and primates are, such as you or I. When someone eats a live octopus, that octopus has much the same thing going through its brain that you would, only without any language we'd recognize.

That said, PETA can bite me.

Hey journalists, we can just assume that PETA has something farking idiotic to say about whatever story you're writing; you don't need to remind us every time.

When it started in 1952, a total of 8 wins were necessary to take the Cup. So it was going to be either one octopus or two wolverines tied back to back, and the wolverines kept mauling the cleanup crew.

At the time (1952) it took winning 8 games to win the Stanley Cup. An Octopus has 8 arms. The math isn't hard. It took off from there. Detroit won the Stanley cup in 1952 with 8 straight wins. In recent years at the Joe the Red Wings organization went all in on the octopus thing with huge purple octopus figures in the rafters and projections on the ice.

The history behind the Red Wings octopus tossing...

You can get them on Amazon. Seriously.

Someone should probably explain to PETA that the octopus is already dead when thrown in the ice. They're bought at fish markets, not fished out of the Detroit River.

There's a specific local fish market where most throwers get them.

I'm a huge hockey fan but throwing dead animals on the ice is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. If you think smuggling a dead, rotting animal in your pants into an arena and sitting around with it for a while is part of a good time, you might need to look into getting help.

I love hockey, national enough to have a following yet still just small enough to maintain a tribal aspect among those who follow it.

Takes a couple minutes to freeze, it doesn't take that long to walk out there.  One guy was known for bare handling the octopus.  The others were wimps.
