Even where it's legal sex workers tend to face a lot of abuse. The better option is to address the social, psychological and economic problems that lead to people selling themselves.

Or we could address the puritanical social stigma that leads to women being abused for choosing a profession providing a service that many people are willing to pay a lot of money for

Yes, trafficking is a problem, but there are many women who'd rather earn $300/hour having sex than $9.00/hr flipping burgers.

Gee, if only there were a way to give people who plan to pay for or be paid for sex a place where they won't be on the streets, on other people's property, in the public eye. . . Gosh. . . I wonder how society ever handled that brain-buster.

Legalize brothels, tax them, require health department inspections and security, and 99% of the "problems" of prostitution go away. Street walkers and pimps stop getting business (because what would you prefer: A safe, clean, disease-free cozy place with a girl you know isn't going to drug or stab you, or a streetwalker with a pimp named slickback?)

I don't know why this is so difficult for society to understand. PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS ENGAGE IN PROSTITUTION and what's more, it serves an important public service for all genders and sexual orientations. There are ugly, lonely, old, shy, or disabled people whose lives are greatly improved by having access to human intimacy and interaction. If you take away the dangers (violence, drugs, disease) by legalizing and regulating, you have ZERO logical objections to it aside from religious hang-ups and personal moral codes that don't jibe with reality.

I have never paid for it, but I see the need for it in any society. I see the logic of allowing it and making it as discreet and safe as possible. I see the value in collecting tax revenue from it, too.

Let the brothels exist and you won't get hookers leaving condoms in your yard. It's really that easy.

We don't know if the residents care one way or another about Craigslist or Backpage.  I support legal prostitution, but I don't want street walkers turning tricks in my neighborhood.  I imagine I'm not the only person that fels that way.

TFA isn't so much about whether prostitution is or should be legal as it is over whether police enforce laws in poor neighborhoods the same way they do in well off neighborhoods.

Victims of sex trafficking aren't being paid $300/hour. Their pimps might make that, but the women make a small fraction, if anything at all (pimp takes "expenses" out of prostitute's cut, leaving little or nothing).
I'm sure there are prostitutes who do it on their own, and keep what they make, but trafficked sex workers aren't exactly free-market operators.

Citation?

It's possible that they are the same people, but the sign says 'in this neighborhood' which suggests they aren't waging so much of a moralistic battle as a NIMBY battle.

And there are problems in the Craigslist ads too.  There is still a fair amount of violence and crime associated with backpage stuff.  Personally, I'm all for legalizing and regulating.

As for condoms in the yard, short of legalizing and regulating, installing a sprinkler system with motion detectors would seem to be a decent solution, although that can be expensive.
