I find it interesting that it's a useful, functioning digit, not some stubby growth sticking out at some random place on the hand.

Not sure why the underscore, but that's the right answer. Also, you must now sacrifice both your rooks just because.

At least they can count to twelve.

But on a serious note, the only time genetic abnormalities hit 100% is when both parents carry the gene.  The likelihood that both of them carry a recessive gene meet up and make babies without knowing each other?  Very slim.  It's not like there is a dating website for 12 fingered folk.  What I'm saying is they're probably related.  Which is why boning close blood relatives is bad.  Sure, you'll get some that don't have issues, but the moment you have recessive genes, even if the parents don't show it and combine, you get abnormalities.

Handy to have spares. (Thank, thank you! I'll be here all week. Tip your waitresses!)

Could have helped Boris Yeltson, who lost two fingers playing with a grenade as a child (hate it when I do that), and Jimmy Fallon, who lost part of a finger when he tripped and fell and his wedding ring was ripped off. (That's his story and he's sticking to it.)

It'd be nice if someone in that family cut off one and gave them the finger.

(That's right, all week! Try the veal!)

Polydactyly is autosomal dominant. You can inherit the trait even if only one of your parents has it.
