"It makes you kind of sit back and say, 'Wow, they're making the highest laws of the land and they might not even remember what happened yesterday.'"

Well that certainly explains a lot.

Those busy moments are much more prevalent in winter, when lawmakers have been in session for a while and when they might be facing more late-night vote series,

speed kills (good bills)

Subby just wanted to use "septuagenarian" in a sentence.

I assume they are all drugged out of their gord so they do not have to remember how they are screwing over their constituents in favor of their donors.  They may as well be drunk for their whole term.

Wonder what their street dealers have to say.  You know some of these folks are smoking weed or doing cocaine.

The blatant hypocrisy of the "family values" politician tells me more than a few or doped to the gills while they rant and rave about more prisons for people who smoke weed.

Part of the problem is, you have to be very well-connected to have the fundraising network necessary to run for office.

"At first it's cool, and then you realize, I'm filling some drugs that are for some pretty serious health problems as well. And these are the people that are running the country," Kim said, listing treatments for conditions like diabetes and Alzheimer's.

That might not a concrete HIPAA violation, but, it is pretty close.   I mean, he lists out some specific conditions, and we know it is for a very specific set of people (either members of Congress, or their families).

If you haven't seen it, find the clip of Orin Hatch responding to a question by repeating the whispered promptings of a staffer. It wasn't a demanding question, either.

(Trump->Pence->Ryan->Hatch.) All in all, a very sobering moment.

Be good if I could get that kind of health care at my job... all of us really.
Ideally we'd have a bunch of mid 30's to mid 40's people at their peak working in congress not people that should be retiring, with a lifetime of baggage and bullshiat, but pill popping seniors is fine I guess.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said in an interview Wednesday that he was uncertain how many houses he and his wife, Cindy, own.
"I think - I'll have my staff get to you," McCain told Politico in Las Cruces, N.M. "It's condominiums where - I'll have them get to you."

Heck, the president couldn't even remember how many times he used the word "competitive" before signing an executive order a few minutes ago.

That said, Provigil is a wonder drug. I wouldn't fault anyone for using it. Provided their health and medical conditions tolerated it.

Yeah I agree. This guy should lose his job at the very least. This is totally outrageous.

If you don't buy that, he should lose his job for being dumb enough to let them print his name.

Like every other pill popping septuagenarian in Congress, Republican or Democrat.

Guy's web site does get a lot of hits.  I also like to keep a certain level of diversity in what I put eyeballs on.  It Keeps one from forming opinions in an echo chamber.

It is. It's full of old, mostly rich white farks (and really always has been) -- primarily men -- who don't have the first farking clue about how most people in this country live. Their performance (or lack thereof) reflects this.

I'm not saying ALL old rich white farks can't run the country competently. I'm saying MOST of them can't.

Exhibit A: America today.

Yes, the real problem is that he hinted that at least one member of the 535 men and women in Congress has Alzheimer's. Not that a member of Congress has a serious mentally debilitating illness and is concealing it from the public. While participating in the crafting of legislation that affects 323 million people and in a broader extension, the world.

They probably don't want to open that can of worms.

There was a time in history that the elders in the village ruled because they had been around the longest, and therefore they had the wisdom.  But in those days, not a whole lot changed in the course of a couple of generations.  And people didn't generally live for 6 generations.

The people in power now are completely out of touch with the people they mean to rule.  And I mean, they have no farking idea what is going on in the world of the people they lord over.

The obvious solution to this is to stop voting for them.  But for some reason, that never happens.

Our Democracy is completely broken.  And i don't know what it will take to repair it,

The issue with what you just stated is those older populations have always voted at higher rates than younger people...
