I do not think the perp lives in Beijing, the destination of his flight.  Also, this occurred in July and trial is set for February.  Wass he aware of how he would react to marijuana consumption before making the purchase and getting on that flight?  Does he have a history of violent behavior or was it just a matter of "I could use some air.  Let me just open the door a bit.  What's the big deal?  You got a screen door, right?  Hey quit harshing my buzz, yo."

Marijuana makes you violent.

Maybe if it was laced with something, never have I seen straight dank have this effect on someone.

Hudek was riding in first class, according to court documents, using a ticket that he got free from Delta, where his mother works.

Not for much longer, I suspect.

So if I get drunk on a flight and do the same thing, I can use the same excuse right?

suuuuuuuuuuuuuure it does. That's why there are endless reports of potheads getting into fist fights and murdering people on a daily basis. Which is true if you're in Jeff Sessions imagination.

Ill tell you what. Get a group of his peers (MJ smokers) and ask them if they think eating weed would make someone want to open a door in a plane or punch people

Me thinks they would rightly throw the book at him and ask for a psych eval

Minimum looks like 20 years according to the article. Sucks to be him but you're responsible to how you react to your recreational substances. It's no different than if he was drunk. You react badly to some prescription shiat your doctor gave you, then you get to slide on some shiat. You decide on your own to take a recreational drug (legal or otherwise) at an inappropriate moment and can't handle your shiat, I don't see that as a mitigating circumstance.

The thing is, marijuana doesn't make you violent - I've never heard of that - but you can have a violent response to the effects of marijuana, especially if compounded with something else, like alcohol. Most likely, this guy had a panic attack and the folks trying to "help" only escalated it. Panic attacks do happen, especially if you've taken far too much and you freak out because you think you're no longer in control. That's more likely with edibles, because folks don't realize that they're going to have a stronger, longer reaction when compared to smoking.

FTFA: "Prosecutors indicted Hudek on four assault charges and a charge of interference with a flight crew. He faces 20 years to life in prison if convicted."

Yeah, why haven't they plea-ed him down to something sane that would put him on probation for a few years. Or are they being stupid think he should get off with nothing?

FTFA : "My understanding is that it was legal to buy and consume marijuana in the state," he wrote. "After purchasing the edible marijuana, I ate it."

Pretty much irrelevant.  You aren't being charged for possession or consumption of marijuana.  You are being charged with assault.

2017-10-12 12:21:09 PM
Wait, so he got on international fight with 3 bags of marijuana edibles and was going to bring them into China? That part alone could have ended badly.

Also, I almost guarantee there was more in his system than "a beer" and a single edible.

Could be those signs are there to remind people who just arrived on a flight that Washington is cool with pot.

This dudw did not understand the power of the edibles. You need to read the recommended amount.

Satanic_Hamster: So if I get drunk on a flight and do the same thing, I can use the same excuse right?

THIS!   YOU are the only one who is responsible for what you (and your body) do.  If you choose to ingest substances which make it behave erratically, that's YOUR responsibility.  "Oops, I didn't know that would happen" shouldn't be a valid excuse.

You're reading why - it's not just exploitative, but getting folks who don't understand the legal issues in hot water on a regular basis here.

Folks who get excited by easy access to pot, especially the out-of-towners, discover that the businesses here don't remind them of little things, like that it's a federal farking crime to bring marijuana on a plane, even in luggage. Because the Port of Seattle runs the airport, you can bring pot into SeaTac Int'l (provided you don't use it openly, hand it out, sell it, etc.) Once you're out of the airport and on a plane, though, all bets are off. They also don't remind them that you can still be charged with being under the influence while on the plane or at whatever location they get off, and that THC, even for first-timers, will remain in your blood for a week or more - it didn't vanish the moment you left SeaTac - so good luck if you're heading to a location that will jail you for a positive test.

a 10Mg brownie really takes the edge off a long flight. You have to moderate though, don't over dose.

All of this 100%.  I'm a firm believer in legalization/decriminalization but some things need regulation, this is not a one off occurrence with edibles most of the "overdoses" in emergency rooms are from edibles and anytime I have seen someone freak out was from edibles.  I was OK with four lokos being banned because that stuff was basically insta-crazy in a can for young people.

Kush21, one of the stores that takes advantage of their proximity to SeaTac Int'l, put up a web page about the issues associated with pot & the airport. Good luck getting that info from them at the store, though, or seeing anything other than "WE'RE THE CLOSEST TO THE AIRPORT" on their billboards.

Yep - and, again, it's not the pot itself causing the reaction, but the users having an overwhelming personal experience with which they can't initially cope. The sad part about it is that I'm a firm proponent of ingesting, rather than smoking, because it's better for you, and ultimately cheaper - more bang for the buck, so to speak. (And, it's a good way to occasionally spend a weekend...)
