The man is an honest to goodness idiot. Maybe he was not like that all his life, maybe he slowly dropped half a step here or there and this is where he ended up, but he is too dumb to know how dumb he is.
With nearly anyone else I would say that you are right, it is a total distraction to get us to chase shadows. However look at what he has accomplished within his own party (nothing) if he can't executive order it he can't do it. He is not making US chase shadows, we are ALL chasing the same shadows, and his fat gravy filled ass is gonna tire out first, just you watch.

The sad part is... it's 100% about brown people in the NFL should know their place, we're paying them well to entertain us with their athleticism, in a physically dangerous career that will likely end in brain damage and a shortened life span. They should just shut up and ignore the fact that there's systemic law enforcement prejudice against minorities.  They should never use their fame as an entertainer as a platform to convey their politics (like I did.)  We should instead instead require employers to require that employees, who recognize that America is failing minorities, to salute the flag, and shut up during an anthem.

The whole respecting our troops, our veterans, our war dead, the wheeling out of widows, the idiocy of tying it to a single, narrowly interpreted article of the constitution, is all a hateful jingoistic method of riling up his fan base into a frothing unthinking mob.  It's an illogical distraction, and only idiots are falling for it.  Peaceful protest does not logically equate to disrespect of all veterans.  It's a childish way of ignoring the above paragraph because it makes you uncomfortable to realize that our wonderful country still farks over a portion of it's most vulnerable citizens.

The first amendment doesn't apply to the NFL, but labor law does, and you can't say "oh here's some new rules you have to follow" unless they are collectively bargained.

Also, given Trump running his big mouth, you could make a case that this IS government ordered fealty to the flag, and not just a private business decision by the NFL.
