Wave Of Anal Fury: I'm sure Cleveland fans will give CC a warm reception.

Stars that left the Yankees for other teams almost always get a warm reception upon visiting the Bronx but those that left other teams to join the Yankees almost always get booed mercilessly when visiting their former towns.

..but its Yankees fans that are the dicks

I'm assuming it's the circumstances.  The Yankees are the "greener pastures" that a lot of players pursue, whereas not too many players worthy of a big paycheck leave the Yankees to get it (Robinson Cano would be an obvious exception to that, although I don't know what kind of money the Yankees were offering at the time).  That tends to leave a bitter taste in the mouth of the fans.  There are a lot of teams who can say that the Yankees treated them like their farm system because of their (mostly) unique ability to throw around a lot of money for years at a stretch.

CC doesn't deserve the vitriol, of course, because he was traded to the Brewers before signing with NY.

2017-10-06 12:37:20 PM
Cano was a situation where the Yankees knew they were facing a rebuild, was still saddled with all of the '09 contracts and Cano's market rate was just too much for the plan. Then the Mariners decided to try to "make a splash" by overpaying.

In general, players who win championships for a team are looked on as heroes, and fans of that team will continue to regard them as such, even if they later sign with another team. Like how LeBron James is treated in Cleveland. But players who bail on a team in order to seek an easier path to a championship with another team are looked on as traitors to the cause, mercenaries, etc. Like how LeBron James was treated in Cleveland from 2010-2014.

Don't know about FS1 where you live, but it's on my basic package.

As for MLBN, they are doing a free preview week like they did last year for the playoffs:

American League division series games will be aired on MLB Network for free for video customers of Armstrong, AT&T U-Verse, Cablevision (Optimum), Comcast (XFINITY), Cox, DISH, DirecTV and DirectTV NOW, Fidelity, Frontier, Grande, GVTC, Mid-Hudson Cable, Norwood Light Broadband, RCN and Verizon FiOS.

Today's Yankees-Indians game will be the last one on MLBN.
All NL games through the NLCS are on TBS.
All remaining ALDS games are on FS1.
The ALCS will be split between FS1 and Fox.
The World Series will be on Fox.

*eyeroll*

as was said, people leave a lot of teams because they get too good to afford and look like they care about the paycheck rather than the team

people leave the yankees because they have been used for all they are worth after being swiped from other teams.  they are well received because the fans saw their best years and they are on the decline or they were moved on to make way for someone better.  the ratio of people who left the yankees at their prime to those who are past it is probably very low

most teams go through years of rebuild, most of the time more rebuild years than good ones in the long run, whereas the yankees can just open the checkbook to keep the good times rolling.  as evidenced by lots of talk of who they should buy next - machado...harper...

must take so much sacrifice to be a yankee fan after so many years not making the playoffs

I imagine it is different being a fan of the local team than elsewhere. If you live by me and are a Reds fan or Giants fan or Rangers fan, you probably grew up in one of those areas or became a fan of theirs for some regional or familial reason. But it seemed most out-of-market Yankees fans just liked them winning, which is essentially a bandwagon fan. Or they liked wearing the Yankees clothes, but if you asked them, "How do you like the Yankees rotation this year?" they couldn't tell you who any of the pitchers were.

My impression of the fans that actually show up at the stadium is they genuinely like baseball. They still get the stigma of being New York jerks, but at least they aren't Boston racist jerks.

Yeah, they went big after McCann, Ellsbury and Tanaka after a bunch of other contracts came off the book. Ellsbury was the big FA "get", Tanaka they had their eye on for years and they were in desperate need for a catcher. That's been the only blip really in otherwise tame (by Yankee standards) offseason spending since they went insane in 2009 (which paid off -that year- but crippled the team for years to come.

The Yankees, btw, are paying 5.5M of McCann's $17M contract this year and next, so the Stros got him on the relative cheap.

i went to a massive amount of games from the mid 80s up until the strike.  had the same seats for years and everyone around was cool and not just yankee fans but baseball fans in general.  it was great

but after they started winning it changed to a lot of bandwagon people who all of a sudden were the 'biggest yankee fans ever' coming out who would never have thought of going to a game a few years before or probably even name more than 3 players on the roster.  and they tended to be very loud and not very welcoming of away team fans

and they are why i've been to yankee stadium 3 times in the last 10 years and go to a half dozen mets games a year even though most teams they play are as bad as the mets and citi field is twice as far away

Since the game has calmed down over the past few innings, the only thing I'm somewhat invested in is figuring out who is sitting to the right of James Harden behind home plate, because he seems to be only talking to him and not his buddy on his left.

I usually tried to do at least a game a year at stadium in the late 90s/early aughts, and yeah, you get a mixed bag. I think I went to twice as many Newark Bears games over that same period despite them only being around half as long. Moved to the Atlanta area in '05 and went every series they came to town and the Yankee fans -always- outnumber the Braves fans in attendance.
