I was listening to this game on the radio last night. After the 3rd goal in like 3 minutes the announcers were losing their shiat and kept it lost the rest of the game.

/go Hawkes

I know, right?

It's not like there's ever been a Stanly Cup series where the team that eventually wins gets spanked in a single game!

A journey of 1,000 Miles begins with a single step.  This is a marathon, not a sprint.  If goal differential meant something, this MIGHT be a big deal down he line but not now.

Link / article needs Saad tag.

Daamn, Saad scored a haat trick in the preseaason gaame I waas at vs. the Red Wings aa few weeks aago. He could haave a huge staart to the seaason.

That's a pecker slap and a half

Because if the last two years have taught us anything, it's that you can always write off the Pens early in the season.

2017-10-06 01:12:07 PM
While I would love for this to be a portent of future hilarious failings from the pens, I think it's a flash in the pan. That team is too talented to let this happen a lot.

Hockey seasons are basically multiple seasons rolled into one... the playoffs itself are basically a season on their own. As a fan of the perds i'm obligated to not rule out the penguins 3peating until they're eliminated in the playoffs.

if you are going to suck during the NHL season - now is the time.

Or they could be like Washington - have an amazing regular season and get knocked out of the playoffs by the Penguins.

2017-10-06 01:30:30 PM
I liked seeing the Penguins get killed as much as anyone, but one game in October doesn't mean squat for their chances in June.

Check back in February when the real season starts.

/Wings fan for disclosure.

It's probably meaningless in the long term, but seeing the Penguins losing by 9 goals warms the cockles of my heart.

2017-10-06 01:58:55 PM
As a Hawks fan, whether we won 4-1 or 10-1 means nothing in the standings for either team. Anything after the dagger goal is just for feels. [Though seeing a returning player score a hat trick does well for that too!] That said, even if they played back-to-backs, 10 goals in the modern era is hard to score OR give up. But both teams will return to their mean of being good-to-great teams just waiting to get through the formality of the regular season.

/Just glad to see the top lines show they got the skills and chemistry to keep us as contenders
//Still waiting for a Pens-Hawks final. Two best teams of the decade should do so at least once
///For triple slashies, I know Habs gave up double-digits once last year to Columbus

2017-10-06 02:00:14 PM
Getting blown out in game 2 of an 82 game season isn't reason for concern.  If it was game 2 of a playoff series, then maybe.

Using subby's logic, I look forward to the Chicago/Toronto Stanley Cup final this year.

Pens will probably go into the playoffs as a lower seed (since they rarely are the 1 seed). Also, they don't have regular season Fleury to pick up extra wins (why I could see the LV team sneaking into the playoffs pending how their backup does in a few games)

It's a nice thought, but if Vegas does better than last year's Avalanche I will be shocked.

I was at that game.  It was delicious.

Especially I went with a Pens fan friend of mine.  Not joking, on goal #6 he stood up, clapped, and said "f*ck it, I want to cheer for something...that was a great goal."

Niemi doing Niemi things at first. But it didn't help that the defense took the night off.

I just checked. It still only counted as 1 loss

I laughed when I saw that this morning. It's meaningless.

I'm happy how the Bs came out against the Perds. Last 3 minutes not withstanding.

True it is meaningless but as a Flyers fan I concur with the warming.

The Hawks basically smacked the Penguins upside the head like, "Yo, season's started. Summer's over," and then snapped their fingers in the Penguins faces a few times.

It's a nice way to start the season from the Hawks' perspective, but like everyone else is saying, it don't mean shiat. Just an early-season wake up call for the Pens.

Well, I'm not a Flyers fan, but do agree with Penguins losing being delicious.

Fun fact: I'm going to my first ever live NHL game in 8 days. Caps @ Flyers.

I'd allow for some exceptions (basically Dallas) and I guess my Caps are technically below the Mason-Dixon but nobody thinks of DC as "South."

/It's a city of Southern efficiency and Northern charm.

With Saad and Sharp back in the fold, this season will have a "we're getting the band back together" vibe to it. And considering their relative age and the rise of Connor McJesus out west, this might be their last best chance to cash in on a cup for a while. They definitely started out on the right foot.

/go Hawks!

I rule it out. Unless they fire their coach of course. That seems to be an integral inclusion to their championship seasons.

Pretty much.

I'll be happy with a late second round exit.

The last time I personally saw 10 plus goals scored in a game by the winning team the losing goalie asked to be traded.
