indy_kid: Seems the only way for a noob female to get that "big break" is to submit to the casting couch, or do a gratuitous nude scene in the movie.

Sandra Bullock in "Fire On The Amazon" (which is a really bad movie) and Julie Warner in "Doc Hollywood" come to mind for the latter.

I guess the another way is simply to do all the nude stuff on social media first, wear next to nothing for all the big Hollywood parties, or "someone" drops your sex tape off at TMZ.  Then wait around to see if anyone takes the bait.

Jennifer Lawrence seems to be doing sexier (not sure if nude) scenes as of late, the trailer for her new film red sparrow is quite sexy on her part. yes i know that is the plot of the movie but it strikes me that hollywood producers have convinced these young actresses that the way to show off "female power" is to again use your body as a weapon.

What a shiatbag.  TWC board of directors is himself, his brother, and David O. Russell.  A board that incapable of dealing with a dirtbag CEO (ie. a board that is so dominated by the CEO and his family) is bullshiat.

She's been dating a filmmaker for a while now, he did the new one she's in, mother. Darren Aronofsky.

Cynicism101: Warrior Kermit: if you are willing to sacrafice your morals for a job or to get head, is it really rape. not defending the actions but it seems that (excluding underage actors) one knows what they are doing when confronted with this option

The tricky thing here is the power imbalance. For some reason a lot of people find this hard to understand, but if you're in an industry where your success depends almost entirely on word-of-mouth reputation and not pissing powerful people off and you can very easily be replaced by the next it girl, you feel a LOT of pressure to give these assholes what they want. And their behaviour is normalized so it's easy to think it's you that have the problem.

Acting is a shiatty, shiatty job, especially for women. I hope the growth of indy projects and maybe (?) the death of the big studios lets women shine (in front and behind the camera), holds people in power accountable, and spreads the power around more evenly. Call me an optimist.

I can understand more the shock/outrage back in the 40's-60's but the past 40-50 this has been a very known hazard of trying to be an actor in hollywood. I'm not saying it is right, okay or should be an accepted practice. but much like pro sports, you know what you have to face before you start (again child actors are the exception). if you go to a screen test and the dirty old man says you can have the part if you go down on me and you accept that offer, you made the choice. don't come out 20 years later after you have made you money and complain about it.

if you started smoking in the late 80's early 90's and you get lung cancer, don't blame the cigarette industry, you were well aware the hazards of smoking.

now that horrible opinion of mine being said, these horrible men/women in power who prey on men/women who simply want to get a job as an actor should be strung up and stripped of all money/power and ridiculed at the highest level. That pretty much goes for all of those who use their power/money to control anyone

As for once women get in power.

Do you really believe that woman in power are going to be any better, greed is greed regardless of gender.  Hillary looks the other way at Bill's antics over the years as it would derail her career path (not being political just an easy example) if she was truly horrified by his behavior she would have stopped it or left him but it wasn't to her benefit.

Tor_Eckman: Alassra: This is awful. Rose McGowan has talked about this (without using his name) several times and why that (along with a few other things) has caused her to shift to being behind the camera.

I don't care who you vote for at the ballot box - manipulating someone because you have power and they don't is WRONG and this is AWFUL, CREEPY, and DISTURBING.

Attacking liberals, while it feels good, is shooting fish in a barrel. Focus on the issue.

If attacking liberals "feels good" to you then you've got bigger problems.  People don't attack conservatives because it "feels good".  People attack conservatives because it is necessary.  I really wish it wasn't.  But it is.

This is factually incorrect.

The other thing that non-Californians have trouble comprehending is that a lot of what the rest of the country considers "liberal issues" are non-controversial positions out here.  In SoCal, it is 100% normal to find a very conservative, rich, white professional (the kind of person who would donate deep 5-figures to a GOP super-PAC without blinking) who views anthropogenic climate science as a settled issue and gay marriage as a given and silly to spend time on.  Some are pro-legalization, some are pro-immigrant.  (Similarly, outside of the dense urban populations, I know many "liberals" with some very non-Democratic-party views on 2nd amendment, immigration, etc.)

It isn't so much that our "overton window" has slid left or anything like that, its just that the California middle area tends to be more "mushy".  Of my personal acquaintances like those above, their views on other issues look a lot more mainstream GOP/conservative (or even into "hard-right" territory), so there's definitely still a "left" and "right", but California is a very different place.

Yeah I see the opposite here in Texas.  There are a lot of "liberals" here that are pro-gun. (You can look at our last Democratic governor, Ann Richards as an example.  They made a big deal about her hunting every dove season).  There also plenty of Democrats that openly support the death penalty and even quite a few that are open to abortion restrictions, even while being against outlawing it outright.

(But to be fair there are  number of Texas libertarians (small 'l') who are pro-cannabis legalization, anti-death penalty, and pro-choice)

how many old rich women have done the same to young boys/men in hollywood or for that matter how many young boys/men have suffered the same fate as this young women. it isn't talked about under the sexism that boys/men enjoy being sexually abused.

Well, he sits up there on his leatherette
Looks through pictures of the ones that he hasn't had yet
When he thinks he wants a closer look
He gets out his little black telephone book
He's calling, calling, calling
He's calling
"Come sit down here beside me, honey
Let's have a little heart to heart
Now look at me and tell me, darling
How badly do you want this part?
Are you willing to sacrifice?
And are you willing to be real nice?
All your talent and my good taste
I'd hate to see it go to waste
"We gon' get you an apartment, honey
We gon' get you a car
Yeah, we're going to take care of you, darling
We gon' make you a movie star
For years I've seen 'em come and go
He says, "I've had 'em all, 'ya know
I handled everything in my own way
I made 'em what they are today
After 'while nothing was pretty
After 'while everything got lost
Still, his Jacuzzi runneth over
Still he just couldn't get off
He's just another power junky
Just another silk scarf monkey
You'd know it if you saw his stuff
The man just isn't big enough
