Wouldn't the Punisher make a villain out of people like that? Rather than run and hide?

Thank you - that's what I was thinking. I know Castle is more of an anti-hero but I thought his entire gig was, you know, punishing dicks like Paddock, not emulating them.

I mean, I could understand if they modified the intro they ran with at the con- maybe not so much gunfire as mentioned in the article, but seriously, censoring the crap out of stuff following 9/11 didn't significantly help anyone's healing.

Al shows/movies with guns in them cannot appear at Comic Con now.
Oh wait, that's all the shows and movies.

I know I was totally devastated when Spider-Man webbed that helicopter between the Twin Towers. If that made it in to the final movie I think my head would have exploded.

Jay Bernthal showing up - no biggie
Jay Bernthal showing up in full costume with guns - might be too soon given current climate
Jay Bernthal showing up in full costume to discuss needed changes in American culture and laws with regard to firearms - possibly epic?

And he never should have been part of the same universe as Spider-Man and his amazing friends. Not saying he's not an interesting character or hasn't produced some good stories, especially those aimed squarely at adults. But it's hard to show him in action without glorifying firearms and it's no coincidence so many GUN NUTS(and one in particular) have adopted his logo. Never should have been marketed to adolescent boys as anything but a villain.

Punisher was my favorite as a kid, and I owned every comic up through about 1995. I did not turn out to be a gun nut nor a vigilante. I do worship satan thanks to all of the D&D I played and the Iron Maiden I listened to in the same period, but that's totally different.

I get traumatized when seeing the Twin Towers still present, though badly damaged from the elements, when David is woken up by the advanced AIs after 2,000 years underwater to a global-warming-flooded Manhattan after mankind has presumably gone extinct in A.I.: Artificial Intelligence.

IIRC, that movie hit the theaters the summer before 9/11. The Towers were supposed to last two millennia, and barely made it two months.

59 people are murdered by guns over a period of two days, just like normal in America: Meh, who cares about the delicate feelings of the survivors and relatives?  Bring. The. Violence.  FARK YEAH!

59 people are killed at once: OH NOES!!!! WE MUST PRETEND TO GIVE A FARK!  HIDE THE GUNS!  HIDE THE GUUUUUUNS!

And I should add I enjoyed Daredevil with him, and his Spiderman cameos. I have no issue with his character showing up at a con. But far too many people like him not like I like the kingpin, but like a hero. Go to right wing websites and watch as they gush over him. Disgusting.

/Don't get me started on people who wanted Walter white to live.

Wile_E_Canuck: I've never understood why it's ok to have violent entertainment, then it isn't for a while when something bad makes the news, then after a few days it becomes ok again.  It just seems hypocritical to me for it to be ok last week, and ok in a couple weeks or a month, but not now.

I don't think it's that strange. As an example: black humor about cancer is generally acceptable, but it would probably be inappropriate when talking to someone who just found out their mother is dying of it. In the same way, depictions of violence in media are inevitable, but sometimes other events make them inappropriate.

ElectricPeterTork: So... yeah, The Punisher would be an enemy to random nutter shooters.
Of course, he deals with that by becoming a nutjob shooter, so... lot of mixed messages there.

That's kind of the point of the punisher.

Smackledorfer: Cops have shirts and gear with their already bad enough black and white flag thin blue line rubbish with a punisher mask. fark the punisher.

How about fark the police that don't know what they're doing? You really can't blame a comic character that's been doing fine for 40 years on account of something cops started stupidly doing ~2 years ago.

His origin was that his family was gunned down in the park by gun toting maniacs.

So... yeah, The Punisher would be an enemy to random nutter shooters.

you know that's pretty much exactly how he's marketed, right? He's constantly on the run from the law, and from the bad guy, he's not really considered a hero so much as an unpleasant psychopath. He doesn't get invited to the superhero parties, and real heroes generally only tolerate his presence in the most dire of circumstances.
Ol' Frank is a cautionary tale at best and he warns people not to do what he does.
