I think working an oil rig is far less dangerous than say, crab fishing.

Isn't that true of every single employer?

It's just that the values for "might die" and "profit" vary.

Good. If you want to get back at Putin, produce more of Russia's  key export so the price drops.

They're a lot saver then they used to be due to a lot of automation

Also, by being safer then bp, who's got a record of corner cutting

It gets pretty warm when the pipeline catches on fire. Especially when they won't shut the flow off because $$$$

If you find out that you were "drilling for crabs" you can clear it up by shaving off your body hair, or there's this special lotion; but then you have to have an embarrassing conversation with your doctor.

Fine, with one caveat: if more than one drop of oil spills as a result of any of your shiat, your company and all its finances are forcefully stripped from you to clean your shiat up.

I think subby may have been hinting at a BP reference. Nowadays, corner cutting gets you in deep water.

I have a friend that keeps going back, she loves it as a geologist.  Crazy thing is she's an avid biker so that consumes a lot of her down time.

Around the drilling platform, in the elevator, down the stairs, reinflate the tires...

The North Sea is miserable. It is very cold and dangerous to use cranes just about every day. You need cranes to survive and with the winds regularly breaching 30 knots you can't use them. So expect long delays in food delivery.
