I think the term "contributed" here is a bit nonchalant when referring to a 91 year old.

Almost any infection can be lethal when you're 91 years old.

Should've cleaned the grotto

Considering how hardened his immune system must have been from the thousands of STDs/STIs he's probably dealt with over the years, I'm surprised that anything like E. coli killed him.

/ I figured he'd die after tripping over one of his girlfriend's little dogs and falling down the big staircase in the mansion.

A series of strokes?

Drug resistant infections are going to be a very popular cause of death in the near future.

If I live to 91 I'd better die of hookers and blow.

Probably from his bestiality fetish. Sick fark.

Shouldn't have talked her into that bareback buttsecks, Heff.  Not at your age.

Whenever I watch that movie, I can't help but think of my mom advising me to never go ass to mouth. Which is nothing compared to when grandma lectured me on the importance of lube.

Ambivalence: Almost any infection can be lethal when you're 91 years old.

91 years old also lends itself to a life in constant contact with facilities where you can pick up drug-resistant bugs.

I want to believe Hef died the same way he lived: in bed, with a smile on his face.

So pretty much every death now has a cause right?  I can't remember the last time somebody died of just "natural causes"

I've been reading Seneca's letters on death, dying, and suicide, and natural causes are over rated

"Natural causes" isn't a thing

People die OF something. Some times, that's a lack of something...such as organ failure. But there is always a cause. Saying someone died of natural causes is childish, mealy-mouthed code for "I don't want to talk about actual grown-up stuff like why grandma actually died, and I'd rather BS you into thinking it was peaceful and painless and somehow dignified, so...yea, she didn't have renal failure and die in mortal fear of not being able to breathe while stewing in a filled Depends, it was "Natural Causes"...

I wouldn't be surprised if there were open bulk bins of antibiotics on the premises for folks to chuck back a handful whenever they felt itchy. Hef could be patient zero for his very own new strain of resistant E. Coli, among other things. Hopefully he's being cremated.

The cause of every death is ultimately heart failure.

Okay, so how many people live long enough and disease free enough to just shut down when the last of the telomeres on their DNA shreds and the cells stop viably reproducing? What does a total organ failure from "time's up" look like if not 'natural causes' and expiring (hopefully) in one's sleep?

I really do think that's how my grandmother died. Her body just stopped repairing itself and everything shut down. She was a week away from her 90th.

to choke one's self to death with a shiat stick, how terrible must your life be?

I suspect people are misunderstanding the difference between "cause", "mechanism" and "manner" of death.  They're different things.

Sounds more like a murder which the authorities refused to investigate because the victim was foreign/slave.

Hef negotiated with Bob Fosse to keep Harry Dean Stanton from portraying him in "Star 80", so Cliff Robertson didn't play him sleazy....

Huh. I was heretofore unaware of that. Would have made an interesting film even more so.  Another on the 8-mile-high "what could have been (cinema edition)" pile.
Time will tell if this is a "warts-and-all" biopic or an "officially sanctioned one."
