CarnySaur: Oh, I'm sure some commenters will say they already know what contrapuntal means because they read books and nobody else does.
Wellon Dowd: It means "contrary to one's wedding vows".Dude, sleeping with your sister-in-law is really counternuptial.
Thunderboy: As one who wasted a lot of time and money on a music degree, of course I know what it means. Using it outside of a discussion about music seems pretty thesaurus-y to me, though.
thornhill: Well that was a load of garbage. That said, Tarantino likely helped popularise the technique in more recent times.No. This is an age old technique that goes all the way back to Mozart's "Don Giovanni." People have been doing this for hundreds of years in various art forms that have non-diegetic music. And it's happened all throughout film history."Reservoir Dogs is a fantastic example of the concept of synergy, whereby the film becomes a platform for selling other things - the soundtrack, posters, action figures."Ok, this person is now officially an idiot. Since the advent of talkies musicians have written songs specifically for movies which are then used to help amplify sales of their catalogue as well as upcoming releases.
Nicholas D. Wolfwood: That would have been Tom Lehrer:"While we're attacking frontally,Watch Brink-ely and Hunt-ely,Describing ContrapuntallyThe cities we have lost,No need for youto miss a minuteof the agonizing Holocaust!YEEEEAAAAAAHHHH!!!"
Kuta: Yeah, but Guardians of the Galaxy sucked, while Reservoir Dogs and Baby Driver were good movies made by good directors

Herbie555: Mikey1969:A: TFA doesn't say it's "new" at all, the use if the phrase "in recent times" should have told you that. If not, the moose out front should have done it.Reservoir Dogs was made 25 years ago. Nothing about that film qualifies as "recent times". Many filmmakers may cite it as influence, but then that means it falls into the same category as every other film a 2017 filmmaker may have seen and used as influence. (In other words, to someone who is 20-30 years old, a 25-year-old film and a 75-year-old film both count as "non-recent influences").

jake_lex: FarkingSmurf: rickythepenguin:........He definitely made the right decision imho. The tip speech also could have worked for Tim Roth's characterNah, I think Mr. Pink is the only one who it works before, because he's the one who thinks of himself first to a greater degree than any of the others. I mean, he's the only one who complains about his name, and he wants to get the fark out right away rather than wait for Nice Guy Eddie and Joe like Mr. Blonde does. Of course, depending on your interpretation of waht happens at the end, he might be the only one of them that survives the whole thing. So, yeah, of course he wouldn't tip.
