I think you meant to write Mac and Me. This is the movie Spielberg famously ripped off and renamed ET.

RogueWallEnthusiast: Colossal was interesting.

But let's be honest, everyone wants to know what historical figure will be played by Helen Mirren, Cate Blanchett, or Meryl Streep in the upcoming feel-bad movie of the year, "Just F*cking Give Me an Oscar Already".

togaman2k: cgraves67: I like Flight of the Navigator. I have no wish to see a remake.

I have not seen a movie in theaters for the past 2 years (Even the Star Wars ones - fark you Disney, I'll watch them at home if I get around to it) because I'm tired of A) Superheroes, B) Movies based on video games/books, and C) Remakes of movies that were perfectly fine 2 decades ago.

I'll start going to movies again when they start producing original scripts instead of easy cash-grabs.

I understand that movie studios are in it for the money, not the art, and that big budget crap makes them shiattons of money in China.  I understand that because of this, they have no reason to make original movies, but fark off.

Not wanting movies that are based on books is...just farking weird, considering that some of the movie industries greatest films have been based on books.

Also, this whole "I want originality!" thing is never going to happen.  And not for any cynical "it's all about money" reason, but because there's really no such thing as an original story and there hasn't been for longer than humans have been making movies.  It's all just variations on stories we've already told repeatedly.

Have you maybe considered taking the stick out of your arse and just enjoying yourself?

Hey there, subby. I was the one who submitted a TF thread maybe a decade ago asking why Flight of the Navigator wasn't generally mentioned among the great kid's movies of the 80's. Yeah, I know you're pretty embarrassed but it is alright, you couldn' have possibly known that you were questioning my judgment.

Can't, River Phoenix is too old for the part.

Actually I think he's the same age.

Dingleberry Dickwad: I loved Flight of the Navigator as a kid, but I just can't see modern studios getting the sense of wonder and fun right. They'd either go all dark and gritty, or generic action.

I'm guessing generic "family" action, starring The Rock.

I'd like to see it rebooted with young female adults with augmented breasts who travel through space having sexual intercourse with mutliple partners. It would be called the Explwhores.

Only because Spielberg had enough cash to have the lawsuit buried, it's the real reason he sold to Disney.

t3knomanser: Crewmannumber6: Green Room (haven't seen it but have heard good things)

Green Room is a goddamn grisly movie. Good- nothing earth shattering, but like Blue Ruin, it's a blend of farce and thriller tied together by painful realism.

Worth the price of admission just for the scene where they cover Nazi Punks fark Off to a room full of Nazis/Skinheads.

theurge14: As a kid I loved that movie.  Disney Channel used to show it and the making of it all the time.

Years later I rewatch it as an adult.  Ugh, really not that good.

It's a silly movie and I loved it as a kid, in part because it was pretty much filmed down the street from a a family friend's house (the "future" family home scenes.) Still a guilty pleasure now. Shame the kid grew up to have such issues. Not sure how to feel about a remake. The near-future scenes might be interesting. Don't know who would replace Ruebens; can't think of a late 10's equivalent.

As for Last Starfighter, that movie is probably impossible to remake; It's very much a product of its time and couldn't be given proper justice.

togaman2k: That's why I like movies from the 70s and 80s so much. The studios greened just about everything so you had a wide variety of original movies available (and a bunch of terrible crap, but that is part of the process).

I'm fairly certain Weekend at Bernie's was made and produced on a cocaine bender.

I just had a sad thought... Some kids watching this might not know what an Arcade machine is.

How are they going to modernize this? By having the kid play the game as a smart phone app? An Xbox? A VR headset?

Now for an amusing thought... what if they remade this movie but the kid is instead brought in as a reluctant hero in the Starship Troopers universe. I'd spend 90 minutes watching a 12 year old kid running for his life constantly as waves of bugs come crashing in to kill him. Would make for a great family film.
