Ruined her career for a decade.

Basically until spotlight report came out and people realized she was right.

Bald headed hoes.

Wow.

Seems longer than that. That was a different time for me, a different life. Sam Kinison had only recently just made fun of her at that point and was already stone cold dead for six months at this point. I still can't believe that happened to be honest, losing Sam.

Sinéad was and still is a powerful singing voice. Her cover of "The Foggy Dew" with the Chieftains just four years later was amazing. I never understood the hate for her protest then or now.

People can shiat on the Irish all day and all night and it doesn't make it right because a handful of them went to the logical extreme and bombed the crap out of their oppressors; Ireland belongs to the Irish and no one else, GB be damned. Had I been born in Ireland I'd be IRA too. Fark anyone who disagrees, oppression and occupation is wrong.

Darth_Lukecash: Snapper Carr: She warned us and we mocked her.

Joe Pesci threatened to smack her to raucous laughter and applause.

I wonder how many people laughing and applauding had a relative who was being molested by a priest.

No, she didn't.

She was doing a cover of Bob Marelys "War". She produced a photo and said "Fight the real enemy" and tore up a picture of the Pope.

Everyone thought, and rightfully so, she was accusing Pope John Paul II of making things worse in Ireland. Which for all his faults, was Steadfastly against Catholics participating in the violence in "The Troubles. Catholics were rightly pissed.

The press release afterwards seemed like a cop out. Stories were already coming out about the abuse of children by the priesthood.

And I'm saying this as a former Catholic now Atheist.

^ That is correct. She WAS NOT talking about kiddie diddling.

Lyrics say she changed Marley's slightly to include something about child abuse.
Just watched it.
She did.

Basically I was wrong, it seems.

But she is also biatching about the English and the farking Roman Empire.
Just like Ethiopia.
She's pretty farked up even then, conspiracy theory kind of stuff.

And the child abuse apologists show here up to sneer at her 25 years later.

What is the motivation for that?

"The cause of my abuse is the history of my people, whose identity and culture were taken away from them by the British with full permission from The "Holy" Roman Empire" October 1992. Hardly conspiracy theory

I remember rolling my eyes. Ooh, look out, she's Edgy. Never mind that the new album was a dud and she was sliding down the hill towards one-hit-wonderdom.

vudukungfu: I remember that.
I stood up and applauded.

I wish I had thought of that but I was very happy to see it. Fark the catholic church. And pretty much every church.

loki see loki do: She has entire subscriptions. Poor, talented, broken thing. Wiki says she spent time in a Magdalene asylum. That's some pretty farked up stuff right there.

That is exactly what her tearing up the picture of the Pope was about. She and other prisoners in the Magdalene laundries were horribly abused by the church with the consent of the Irish government.

Sgygus: Sinéad was regarded as a kook.  Catholic priests diddling kids?  No one believed the nonsense she was peddling.

She has some rather big balls to do this on national tv and amazing how quiet the response was at the end.

You do realize the English were actually oppressing the Irish right? They were using the black and tans to do state sponsored terrorism, rape, and general thuggery, while the Orangemen were terrorists with the tacit approval of the British.

The English have oppressed the Irish since William the Conqueror sent his chief thug Strongbow to the region in the 12th Century to settle a squabble.   Dude never left.  That conflict predates Henry VIII by several centuries, and has absolutely nothing to do with religion.  It has always been about politics.  Religion is just an easy way to determine who sits on which side of the equation.  It was going on when everyone was Catholic, too.
