TFATom Petty, a songwriter who melded California rock with a deep, stubborn Southern heritage, died on Monday after suffering cardiac arrest. He was 66 and had lived in Los Angeles.

So stubborn it took TWO greenlights for him to let go.

I don't want him to go on the cart.  I don't feel happy.

So we fixed the video labeling (briefly, sort of) and now it's more broken than before. It looks like a black sardine tin.

He was briefly Schrodinger's Musician until someone collapsed his quantum state.

I thought I saw death announcements from his family more than 12 hours ago.

Ghastly: He was briefly Schrodinger's Musician until someone collapsed his quantum state.

He's a rock star. He came back on stage to do another encore.

Now he's on the tour bus, heading to a brand new gig somewhere. Godspeed, Tom!

I guess he's running down a dream.

I had no idea he was 66 years old.  That was a shock to me.

Are we positive this time?  I can't handle him dying a third time.

What a shiatshow with so many major news agencies falling all over themselves to be the one to kill him off, facts be damned.

'Here's my mate!' cries George, elbowing the man next to him, turning away from John, David and Farrokh all having a vigorous discussion about weapons laws. Roy waves over a garçon and orders another round for the table. 'I hope Pete didn't give you any trouble.'

You know, I wasn't a huge Petty fan, but it's impossible to say anything bad about him, because the guy was just so goshdarn likable.  It's like if a guy in your neighborhood hit the bigtime.

Rest easy, Tom.

Just saw a recent interview where he said this was the last big tour because he wants to spend more time with the grandkids. So sad.

The early announcement was based on LAPD reports which was later retracted

The brillance of that comment is what makes FARK worthwhile despite the PolitiFark tab

Tom Petty must of been loaded. (with cash) ...unless he had really bad contracts and deals.
He had too many hit singles spanning 70s,80s,90s and 00s. His songs fit in multiple formats. MOR,AOR, "oldies-classic rock" ....etc.

2017-10-03 08:31:06 AM
Tom Petty being dead, then alive, then dead again is the most Tom Petty thing ever.

2017-10-03 08:32:21 AM
He was never a great musician, but he wrote a lot of fun songs, and the world was a little better for having him in it.

Growing up in Florida, it didn't matter if you listened to Hip-Hop, Alternative, Country, or Pop....

Everyone liked Tom Petty

You can see why they're trying to start nuclear war so bad, now.  They're trying to kill him and Ozzy, but we kinda have a glimpse into the future to see who wins that battle:

CSB - saw Petty in 1983 in Munich.  Tom must not have played many European venues at that point, as the polite clapping after each song really seemed to piss him off.  Still put on a great show.

I'm surprised Trump hasn't politicized this yet as proof mainstream media is nothing but fake news.

Even at my dumbest and punkest I had an appreciation for his music. I think now it's because he took the best parts of being Dylan without being Dylan and combined it with a very ROCK sensibility without the ridiculousness of the rock scene at the time. I was with him until "You Don't Know How It Feels" because that was just pandering. I also felt that his appearance in 'The Postman' was when the movie just took and obliterated the suspension of disbelief.

TLDR: good music, sorry to see go. Benchmark for when The Postman started sucking.
