I'll just say that the reaction from the Right in this nation would be massively different if the shooter was a black man. Everything else the same.

2017-10-02 10:09:42 PM
Maybe we shouldn't let EVIL people get guns?

2017-10-02 10:29:41 PM
'The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing' - Edmund Burke.

Or for evil people to sit on their hands like the current Republican Party and the NRA.

2017-10-02 10:29:47 PM
If EVIL couldn't have gun, they couldn't shoot people.

/just a thought

2017-10-02 10:33:09 PM
No it's the guns.

2017-10-02 10:33:41 PM
Now they can't be accused of claiming the problem is mental health and not doing any mental health reform while taking away what little access people have for mental health services by getting rid of the health reform. You can't really do anything about evil except, apparently, pray.

2017-10-02 10:35:20 PM
This was an act of terrorism.

Evil pretty much hates:
People getting health care
Children getting health care
Equal rights for everyone
Accepting refugees from war torn countries
Education and Science being taught in schools over supersistion

The GOP is pretty much the face of Evil. Like if there's a evil thing they can do to be evil to people, to make people's live more miserable, they're right there being evil.

Mass murder is not always terrorism. Terrorism has an agenda.

I will take a guess and say that forcing Christianity onto everyone and torture those who do not convert, because surely...NO ONE EXPECTS THE AMERICAN INQUISITION!

Our chief weapon is hate.  Hate and fear.  Fear and hate
Our two weapons are fear and hate and a hair trigger
Our three weapons are fear, hate, a hair trigger, and an almost fanatical devotion to St. Reagan
Amongst our weapons...
No, Amongst our weaponry are such diverse elements...

But evil is the real victim here. These horrible acts have made evil look bad. We should subsidize some evil so that it balances the good out and we don't get all namby pamby do-gooder righteous. Quality evil is important to a well-functioning sentient species and if it weren't so then why would it be so abundant? It's natural - the important thing is that the government be allowed to regulate evil, as well as every individual citizen's level of personal evil. Like, an income tax of evil - you could fill it out at the same time. This is why I say vote Satan.

Wait.... Is "pure evil" worse than "terrorism?" In my connotations it is, because "terrorism" has an aim, but "pure evil" is done for no reason. So if we feel the need to address terrorism, how in the world can we not feel the need to address "pure evil?"

If anything this should be more of a reason to find ways to stop nuts getting guns. Alas, too many Americans value guns more than they value People so we are doomed to see this again sometime soon.

we are all just re-arranging the deck chairs while the S.S. Trumptanic sinks and the rich people load themselves onto the lifeboats.

expect more violence to come, as social order melts away and our leaders reveal themselves to have no real sense of morality or even proportion.  Trump and his buddies will crack down the wrong people, while continuing to loot the nation for as much as they can, as long as they can.  we'll stumble around, blaming the 'right wing' or the 'left wing'.  we'll say 'its too soon' or 'its past time to talk about guns'.  But the sad fact of the matter is that nothing is going to change.  not with guns, not with policy, and certainly not with our attitudes.  everyone is more concerned with being RIGHT than we are with finding a way to live in balance with each other.  we can't even call this a terror attack, because it'll offend white people with guns.

I dunno how we stop this anymore.  I don't think we can.  we're just going to have to accept that random violence and mass murder has become a cultural norm and NOBODY - republican OR democrat - is willing to do anything about the deaths.   Plan your lives accordingly, and try to remember to hug your loved ones every day before you leave the house.  live each day as if it were your last, because it damn well might be...

Marcus Aurelius: Weaver95: I dunno how we stop this anymore

Don't make me come out there.

we just saw some random dude murder 50+ people and wound over 500 of his fellow citizens.  there was no reason for this.  there's no excusing such behavior.  And yet...all around the country, from facebook to CNN people LINE UP TO DEFEND THIS INSANITY.

we're more concerned with protecting our ideological positions than we are about confronting the reality of a culture that's so warped and rotted that it looks on mass murder as an opportunity to score political points.  BOTH 'sides' do this, and they do this with every mass casualty  incident.  meanwhile, the country is on the brink of WWIII, we're all wondering when the president is going to take away our health care, and a third of the country is either currently on fire or still underwater from a bunch of hell storms that we officially cannot admit is being affected by global climate change.

we're already hip deep in blood with no signs of slowing down.  this is going to become so much more bloody before it stops...if it ever does.

It's ironic how EVIL is actually LIVE spelled backwards.

Not so ironic is that GOOD is DOOG spelled backwards.

Makes you think.

I'm sure they'd complain about being called enemies of the state.. but in order for that to be valid, they'd have to stop behaving as enemies of the state.

The only way to fix this is to force Matt Damon to walk naked through the streets. And even if it doesn't work, we'll have gotten to see Matt Damon walk naked through the streets.

not when you consider their theology.  it makes perfect sense for authoritarian right wing evangelicals to go around heavily armed and looking for trouble.

Typical Republican response. We can't do anything to end the entire problem once and for all for ever and ever with one simple solution, so we shouldn't bother doing anything at all.

This isnt true. The vast majority of work done in the field of ethics or moral philosophy uses secular, nontheistic concepts of good and evil.

Funny how evil manifests itself with some person using a gun, and not, say, using a car or a knife or a chain saw. One person died in Charlottesville when the guy used his car to mow down protesters. One. Here, 59+ people died.

A gun is a tool. And it's a darn effective tool in doing what it's intended to do: kill people. It has no other use other than to kill people. Sure, gun nuts like to claim that it's great for killing large prey. But the invention and evolution of guns were aimed at (no pun intended) killing other humans. Killing prey is a side thought.

Eliminate guns and evil will still be around, but its manifestation will be much more muted.

American wars against abstractions have always failed. Republicans like to make war on abstractions. That way, measuring progress and outcomes (and the costs of alternative actions) is subjective.

Who, other than that scarecrow that exists only in what passes for your mind, is proposing federal legislation to ban firearms, Muffy?

I was hearing today that the stock prices of the gun manufacturers went up after the slaughter.. as usual.  They have a strong profit motive for this.
