I know nobody likes condoms, men or women, because they can be annoying. That being said: Always wrap it up with a new partner guys. Same goes for you ladies, if he won't wrap it up use a female condom, and consider finding a new partner. As the article says, and my brother in law and his wife (both medical professionals) will affirm, many people never even have symptoms of an STD. Stay safe, to try to stay uninfected, while having fun.

Before you trust that STD test completely some STD's, like herpes, can only be positively diagnosed by a culture from an active sore. Keep that in mind before skipping the protection.

Only gay people get HIV is one myth give hetrosexuals a 'pass'.
One of the fastest growing demographics for HIV is African American Women.
Which is tagging along with intravenous drug abusers
It takes 10 years or so for HIV to present as AIDS and now we're seeing a spike with Women who have had sex with IV drug users with HIV.
Now, we have white suburban bullet proof kids shooting up Heroin. In 10 years, we're going to see a spike in HIV and "I don't know how I got that I'm not gay" thing.

And remember that genital warts are spread through skin to skin contact and no condom will prevent transmission if warts are present or the virus is active. (Some strains go dormant with prolonged mongamy or celibicy.)

So if you see a little white dot near the glans, pass. Same for the labia. It's very rare to get an honest to god pimple on the genitals, but an in-grown hair can look like an STD.

And last but not least - HPV  and pearly papille syndrome are not the same thing.

Herpes, HSV-1 (oral) and HSV-2 (genital are both detectable in blood tests.  HPV (warts) is not.

Well Mr. Fancynopants, what do YOU do during foreplay for the Journey to the Center of the Earth roleplay? The entire premise falls apart if you're not doing your pre-mission inspections.

Not 100%, or even close. There's a reason why the test has several levels of serology levels, but even testing clear isn't a sure thing because it can be in a near complete dormant state and the antibodies can be such a low count as to not be measurable.. Heck one of the levels of detection is practically labeled ambiguous, and then there are false positives to boot.

The only positive test for HSV2 is a culture taken from a sore during an outbreak. So if you think that might not be an ingrown hair, get it checked right away and the doc can grow a culture.

No test for any viral infection is 100%.  However, the blood test for HSV-2 using detection of IgG antibodies is very close to 100%, unless the infection was too recent for the full initial immune response.  Even after a few years without an outbreak, modern blood tests are still quite accurate.

Requiring an open sore for testing is far weaker, since a decent percentage of people with HSV-2 are asymptomatic (or functionally so).  Relying on open sore tests are a poor indicator in cases where viral shedding is occurring without the standard symptoms.

Worldwide, yes AA women. Here in the States the South is looking at 1 in every 2 young, MSM black men getting HIV in their lifetime. Infection rates not only leveled out here in NY, but should be falling to the point where we could claim "Ending the Epidemic" as a reality. The Partner study, Partner 2, the 052, and one other study proved viral supression makes HIV+ individuals sexually non-infectious. Treatment as prevebtion works, we figurrd this out with Pre Exposure Prophylaxis for uninfectrd high risk individuals.

0 mother to child transmissions in New York for 2015. While not as good as a cure or a vaccine, HIV burning out is a win.
