Sadly this.  Brain death is clinical death.  There is no "getting better".

They already put him on the cart.
He's dead Jim.
Just lawyers and vultures swirling around as they try to get the best spot to pick at the body and estate.

And he's been taken off of life support, just a matter of time.

We obviously don't know anything, including the state of consciousness. The initial reports were wrong. He's apparently still on life support.

I'm holding out hope until he's reported dead or they pull the plug.

Not according to tfa.

From TMZ:

1:35 PM PT -- Sources tell us at 10:30 Monday morning a chaplain was called to Tom's hospital room. We're told the family has a "do not resuscitate" order on Tom. The singer is not expected to live through the day, but he's still clinging to life. A report that the LAPD confirmed the singer's death is inaccurate -- the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. handled the emergency.

I read it on Billboard.
I'm willing to accept that we don't really know what's going on, especially with the premature reports of his death.

Only hope is that the report of no brain activity was incorrect.  I'm not seeing that refuted anywhere officially but then again it's not exactly "confirmed" officially either, but I'm, yeah don't hold your breath.

Found without a pulse. At best that means brain damage, probably on the way out. He isn't cutting more albums that's for sure.

So, just "mostly dead." Where's Miracle Max when you need him?

2017-10-02 07:18:04 PM
Maybe we'll get lucky. Maybe he'll make it, pull through, and recover in time to play at the 2020 inauguration of Oprah Winfrey and Al Franken.

He's busy in the other thread.

I am putting no faith in him coming out of this the same.  He was in cardiac arrest for who knows how long before efforts of resuscitation were taken.  Odds are there is brain damage.  He's dead; his body just does not know it yet.

2017-10-02 07:25:11 PM
I always hated his singing voice. nails on a chalkboard. every SINGLE time a song of his came on the radio I'd fantasize about how good it would sound if Bruce SpringSteen or Jim Morrison, or basically literally anyone that didn't sing contra alto through the squeakiest spot at the top of the bridge of their nose with the force of a thousand wet-dry vacs on full reverse were to sing it

great song writer. wish nobody ever told him he could sing

Not now, puddin. Go take a nappy nap and then later, maybe, the adults in the room will watch you perform.

I once described Springsteen's usual singing voice as "he has a cat up his ass fighting to get out." Now all my friends use that phrase, usually shortened to "there's that cat" when we hear one of his songs.
An exception is made for "Tunnel of Love." He left the cat out for once.

What the hell kind of adult says "nappy nap"?  Early 20 year olds with toddlers?  Who cares what those "adults" think, anyway?

Or listen to Handle With Care and note the jarring difference between the dulcet tones of Roy Orbison's chorus and the next line when Petty and Dylan take over.  Great song writer, fantastic showman with a distinct nasal twang.

He's Shroedinger's Petty. He's also a good Farker and a friend to all.

I'm a mess. Some of my best childhood memories involve listening to his music with my  Dad, who's about Petty's age. Dad just called me, remembering all the great times we shared listening to Petty together. I saw him for the first, and now last time, live in July.
I haven't been able to stop crying since I got off the phone.

Though harlee cannot imagine "I Won't Back Down" done well by anyone else. With Petty's voice it is perfection. Anyone else? Meh.

Some songs are just best when done by their writers. "The Final Countdown" is one. This is another.

This crap happens in threes. What's happening with the Yellowstone super-volcano, and also that asteroid that is supposed to whiz by? Or maybe Kim will fire a missile at Guam and make it capsize.

I thought this too but at his age and history my non medical assessment says he isn't a viable donor.

There are so few donors that now they're even putting Hep C donated livers into folks with Hep C who need them. Not all of those livers are damaged, or not damaged much.
