Shiat.

I've been hearing the Wilbury's "Last Night" going through my head all day today.
Before I read this.

Ian St. Pe needs to claim his destiny and pick up the mantle. His work with Diamond Rugs reminded me of Tom Petty in a really weird way. Link for the curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBSV8jHuzmU

One of the best concerts I've ever seen at Red Rocks.  An awesome showman with an awesome band...RIP.

enry: NASAM: thismomentinblackhistory: God damn it. I had him on my list of people I must absolutely go see -- no excuses -- since 2016. God I am a lazy piece of shiat.

Me too.  I'm kicking myself for not going to see him the two times I had the chance.

After Prince and Chris Cornell, I promised myself I'd never pass up an opportunity to see an artist I like again. Even if they disappoint me.  I'm looking at you U2.

Wife and I saw John Cleese a few weeks ago.  Way better to see people in their prime or just after rather than see them biatch about their third wife for an hour.

The one that hit me the hardest was watching Terry Jones on stage at the BAFTAs last year.

Fairwell Tom.

This makes Jeff Lynne the last remaining Traveling Wilbury... so sad.

I was at Carolina Rebellion the week before Chris committed suicide.  Soundgarden was closing the first night (or was it the second?  too much beer).  My buddy and I considered sticking around for Soundgarden after A Perfect Circle closed, but we decided to beat the rush and walked out of the festival as Soundgarden started up.  Regret big time.

Yep. I was going to go see Soundgarden when they were in town but it was on a Wednesday night so I wimped out.  Dead two days later.

TNel: Damn, Petty is my favorite oldies person. A shame I never got to see him live.

I saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers with Dylan in 1986.

And as Dylan says in his book "He was at the top of his game and I was at the bottom of mine."

Dylan was horrible. Wasn't a Tom Petty fan, but I agree with the summation.

2017-10-02 04:16:24 PM

InmanRoshi: Some were better than others, but the thing about Petty is he had a 40+ year career without making a truly awful clunker album ... and most of the All Timers have made several *cough* *cough* Dylan, Neil *cough*, *cough*.

/Favorite album is Echo.
//Probably won't be able to listen to it today without falling into a heap of tears

It's the same sad echo around here....

He has some great songs. Saw him in concert once. Most boring concert I think I've ever been to.

Nick Nostril: Jeez. I hadn't even heard he was in the hospital. Rest easy, brother.

He wasn't until he was found earlier unresponsive and without a pulse.  Sounds like he just had a massive heart attack suddenly.

2017-10-02 04:17:43 PM
He bought him a drink, sang him a song, and took it as it came cuz he couldn't stay long.

2017-10-02 04:17:56 PM
Can we just cancel this shiatfest of a week already?

2017-10-02 04:18:04 PM
Into the great wide open was one of my favorite videos back in the day. I loved his music. RIP

2017-10-02 04:18:07 PM
Man that sucks.  Tom Petty was the first concert I ever went to.

There's going to be one hell of a jam session in the afterlife tonight.

2017-10-02 04:18:23 PM
Well, that just farking sucks. He was one of the great singer/songwriters of all time.

Didn't cry about Bowie, didn't cry about Prince, but the tears are flowing now.

he was my first rock concert, SPAC, 2002. He was also one of my five deployment CD's. farking fark. Any other day this would be the worst.

He just went in last night and was put on life support. Found unconscious after a heart attack, guessing he may have been brain dead. Or his organs were just too farked up from that.

shower_in_my_socks: FARK TODAY.

I saw his very last concert. Hollywood Bowl a week ago tonight.

And I didn't go, and could have gone. And I had no damn good reason not to. And now I regret it deeply.

Not gonna lie, I absolutely burned my 2016 calendar/planner because last year just sucked THAT much.

This may become an annual thing.

FTF me.  But I have to admit he was a fine artist.

2017-10-02 04:20:59 PM
Many years ago, Had a friend who's band opened for Tom (I was a glorified Roadie).  We had rented a water ski school for the weekend.  So that Sunday, from out of a trail comes the entire band with steaks and beer.  apparently they rented the house next to ours...but ours was cooler.  So Tom being drunk and apparently high decides to teach me how to water ski.  I immediately fall face down and tom is dragging me around this lake yelling "Hang on, you can make it back up!!"  I didn't make it back up.  But a fun afternoon with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.  Really nice guy.
