Took my wife's car to the grocery the other day. Her radio was set to a New Country station and i listened to 3 songs before arriving at the shop. Every one of those songs had the same beat, girl, tractor, truck theme and the singers were so bad. Just terrible. I grew up in middle Tennessee and I never had a country accent. Why do new country singers think they have to sound like that? Especially when many of them were born in California or Massachusetts? GOD I HATE NEW COUNTRY!

Shh, being reasonable will just get in the way of the Linux fanboi outrage. I mean it's not like Linux involves a whole lot of doing extra things that Windows doesn't require in order to get things working the way you want, nosirree.

Hell if you wanted to you could just write a script changing the function of the button - like I have one that makes Scroll Lock turn my keyboard lighting on or off.

Shh.  I have a mouse with something like18 buttons, doubled with a modifier key, and all of that tripled due to 3 presets full of shortcuts that I have configured for Linux and an assload of Windows presets using the Logitech software....doesn't mean I still don't have a habit that's hard to break....

Not all of us were into mainstream rock and disco music. Although I do own all of Led Zeppelin's albums. I had to look up the Rolling Stones album because they mean very little to me.

But hey. Name one song from the album Ice Cream Castles  and I'll be slightly impressed.

A large part of their reputation comes from sheer longevity. Musically, they could have broken up after Mick Taylor left (or if we're being generous, after Tattoo You), and little of significance would be lost.

It's ... complicated. I'd think openness ought to be a big part of the test, because to a certain kind of mind, the universe just gets bigger and bigger the more things you put an effort into listening to. Another kind of mind, the stuff you listened to at age 17 is pretty much stuck there for life.

Also, pick any genre -- how do you quantify the 'stuff' in there, and correlate it to a personality type? That's gotta be a challenge. And then there's culture and social group membership and stuff...

I have 3 kids. 19 year old twins and a 14 year old. I was good at expanding their musical horizons as they were growing up. Mind you they have never owned a physical piece of music. I, however, still collect vinyl. The older boy just listens to crap rap. There is good rap, but he listens to some really awful stuff. The eldest daughter has better taste but only sticks to what is on the radio or youtube. The 14 year old actually had a stereo in her room. She occasionally buys an album and knows the proper way to play and care for vinyl. Just a few minutes ago she was listening to the Bow Wow Wows in her room. I have no idea how she stumbled upon them, but good for her. She also likes a ton of 70's and 80's music.
Yesterday I introduced her to:

When interrogated just now, the GF, who is three months older than me and has been constantly barraged by my eclectic tastes for nearly eight years, did not even know what "Exile On Main Street" was or who it was by. My sad has a sad.

And Marley... It's not that he's overrated, but it seems like he's the obvious go-to reggae pick out of a plethora of highly talented artists. Sadly it seems like most don't explore the genre beyond him and maybe Peter Tosh and "The Harder They Come." And I get why, it can feel like a fairly repetitive genre at times. But like any other style of music, there are vast riches for those who take the time to explore.
My personal favorite album of the genre thus far in my occasional digging.

Backlight rechargable mini keypad with touchpad.  11 bucks.  Works in Linux, Android, Windows, OS X, no drivers needed.  Rechargeable.  2.4 gig wireless so long range.  Great from across the living room or laying in bed.

I have my phone set up for doing all of that (network and BT...multiple OS's), but I rarely use it since I have a mouse and keyboard where I sit and watch TV.  I want one of those single hand gaming keyboards so I don't waste the batteries in my wireless keyboard when I'm playing games.

Wireless is what I'm trying to get away from.  I bought a wired gaming mouse first because, with my normal usage, my wireless keyboard lasts for months and the mouse for weeks.  When you hold shift half the time while constantly on A/S/D/W, batteries die a lot faster.

But for $11 and universal...hmm...really not a bad deal and would be something that would help my Dad learn to use a computer.  Hand him a keyboard and mouse and his face goes blank, hand him a controller and he'll eventually figure it out...he and technology have a weird relationship.

Not knowing songs on those albums has nothing to do with one's age.

momojoboo: Buttknuckle: Am I the only person in the world who hates Led Zeppelin?  Plant's voice just irritates me.

No, you are not...I know I'll get a lot of flack for this, but Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd are (2) bands that I just don't see the appeal of. I know - like, hey man, like, that's you opinion man....to each their own.

Try being someone that isn't a Beatles fan.

I get it, they were/are a big deal. But I'm tired of hearing them all of the time and people talking about them all the time.
