And how long will we have to wait for season 4? Which is supposed to be 14 episodes this time.

2017-10-01 01:11:27 AM
It's the finale already? I haven't watched any of it. Apparently I didn't even DVR it. Hopefully it's still "on demand" for those lazy Sundays when I'm not watching football. OK, so then the drunken Saturdays.

OK maybe I'll watch it sober on Tuesdays.

I usually watch it a couple of times drunk (and stoned) and then once sober because I always miss stuff when I'm baked.

Man, I really hope it's not long, maybe next spring or something. How long was the gap between 1 and 2? I can't even remember.

The airdates Wikipedia lists say the last episode of Season 1 aired on April 14, 2014 and the first episode of Season 2 aired on July 26, 2015.  That being said, we got episode 1 of Season 3 on April Fools' Day 2017, but the season proper got started on July 30th.

Personally, I thought it was a better finale than s1's.

No Phoenix Person, no Evil Morty - run Citadel of Ricks, and Beth is forever Schrodinger's clone, but we at least had the divorce resolved and Mr. Poopybutthole.

That was fine, but the other two finales were definitely stronger.

Especially pilots where damn near every single character is disposable.

The only two characters who carried over into the main show were the First Officer turned mutineer and the alien Science Officer.

Everything else was setting up the conditions for the third episode on a new ship, and that episode was pretty interesting.

2017-10-02 01:42:56 AM
That was probably the most fitting finale to the season they had.  Beth discovers that she's happy with Jerry because he cares about her, even if he can't keep up in a variety of ways.  Rick starts the season off overpowered as all get out and ends it still being exactly as OP, but having alienated everyone and thus being unable to use that power.  Funny, he started the season in a literal prison, and he's ending the season in a figurative one.

And Beth is NOT A CLONE!  How many times does Rick have to say that before it sinks in?  She's NOT.

//She's really not

Pilots are usually written years before the series is actually greenlit.  They often have nothing to do with the quality of the series overall.  Episode 2 can often be a rush job.  I usually find episode 3 to be indicative of the quality of a series.

I dunno. MLP and similar cartoons are written piecemeal by hired guns, basically always starting and ending in the same place. They can be as good or bad as the person doing the episode. That's why you can get really good and really not so good stuff in the same run.

And other shows, like It's always sunny in philadelphia, need to hit a stride to really sing. The Nighman Cometh couldn't have been third episode or even in the first season, technically.

Meh, final season will be Rick finally realizing he loves his family, going to war with Tammy and Phoenix person - with or without the Counsel of Rick's - making some sort of peace with Evil Morty, then walling off this  dimension to portals... Credits roll... Then the final clip is Rick in the garage; making his final sacrifice for his family, lobotomizing his genius, and becoming shiat Eating Rick. Cut to commercial.

Is there a reason everyone is expecting those two to come back?

I mean... they're agents of the empire that got Ricked in this season's first episode, wouldn't they have gone down with the ship on that one?

I liked the episode, but it really didn't feel like a season finale.  I think they would have been better served by having this as the penultimate episode, and then follow it up with the Ricklantis Mixup / Tales from the Citadel.  This would serve the double purposes of beginning the episode following the idea of going back to the streamlined basic adventures of season 1, only to immediately subvert it and give us the Evil Morty reveal as a cliffhanger.

Seriously this.  What's the cliffhanger?  The Gangs back together?

S1 -s2 had them stopping time, s2-s3 had rick imprisoned.  This...is just a return to the pilot?

I wouldn't consider The Ricklantis Mixup a clip/filler in the slightest.
A side-story, perhaps, since it didn't directly involve the protagonists, but a critical followup and portent to the grand continuity nonetheless.

Hell, I'd argue Ricklantis Mixup way more deserving of "there are consequences" than Rest and Ricklaxation, in which there really weren't any and was probably the most filler of all the episodes this season (I don't consider interdimensional cable/morty mind blowers to be filler)

Yeah, I was trying too hard to match individual episodes with the points on the wheel.

Taken as a whole: the season starts with Rick having a small problem (he doesn't like Jerry) and making a HUGE change (causing the break-up) but that has consequences (Summer, Morty, and even Beth acting out), leading Rick to undo everything (revisiting Beth's childhood, and possibly cloning her) ... and admit the futility of change ("just like Season One, but more streamlined").

I'm not sure that he hates Jerry.  He doesn't like what Jerry does to Beth, and figured Beth would be off wandering the universe like him if she never got knocked up by him.  There are so many situations he could let Jerry die, hell, he could just abandon him at Jerry daycare forever.  Especially since he killed the alien trying to kill Jerry.

Whether that's in obligation to Summer, Morty, and Beth or not, I don't think he hates Jerry.  Just that Jerry makes adventures with the rest of the family more inconvenient and he doesn't like when Jerry tries to exert control over him.

Like the federation.  Or the teacher where they went into his mind to give Morty A's so they could go on more adventures.  He just wants his Rick and Morty time, and Jerry was a roadblock to be removed just like the vindicators or a million other things Morty has been attached to.

To finish my thought... because Rick's conflict resolution is almost always violence.  Almost every confrontation he has ends with someone dead or frozen.  I wouldn't be surprised if there's a morty's mind blowers where he destroys the entire patton oswald hive mind.

And Jerry is the only one he can't resort to violence against, and Jerry wins because of it.

I used to rely on those. Then, after they started to get taken down almost immediately, I'd catch them on the YouTube live feeds. Then the poor quality pushed me to just buy the episodes off of Amazon the Monday after they air and watch them on the Amazon Video Xbox app. It was easier than trying to track them down. Adult swim is about the only channel I really miss after cutting the cord.

I liked the ending, Rick needed to get some actual consequences for a change.  Rick doesn't need to change or grow for the show to continue but he needed boundaries.  A Rick led family was terrible, the amount of things Beth let him get away with because she was afraid he might leave is staggering.

As someone earlier pointed out, Jerry really is the only problem Rick can't solve just by killing him.

And a really good Ken Burns documentary narrator.
I didn't realize that was him.

Out of Ken Burns' 8,493 documentaries, Keith David has narrated "Jackie Robinson," "Unforgivable Blackness:  The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson," "Mark Twain," and "Jazz."  He was outstanding in "The War," which earned him an Emmy.

xalres: RJReves: jaylectricity: It's the finale already? I haven't watched any of it. Apparently I didn't even DVR it. Hopefully it's still "on demand" for those lazy Sundays when I'm not watching football. OK, so then the drunken Saturdays.

OK maybe I'll watch it sober on Tuesdays.

For a beautiful, brief week some saint was ssneaking the full episodes onto YouTube.

Some asshole stopped that.

Too impatient to wait a couple weeks until they're free on the Adult Swim website?  For this show I can definitely understand that.

Serious question... Is this show really that good for the cult following. I haven't watched it but am always looking for new things to watch. Is it at all like family guy or south park.
