Let's just hope Donald catches an especially bad one while he's visiting next week. 70-year-olds who don't take care of themselves and eat fast food all the time don't have great immune systems. Come on, Mother Nature, you owe us for what you just did to Houston, Florida, and Puerto Rico

He's practically admitted as much - the whole manipulation of the situation smacks of a punitive measure. "This is what happens when you don't pay us." He keeps bringing up debt as though that should somehow mitigate or affect a goddamned emergency humanitarian response - for other goddamned Americans.

That's the part that I don't understand. The people of Puerto Rico are Americans. Even the assholes on Fark defending Trump's actions are happy to just gloss over the fact that these folks are as American as Trump. (Some of them seemed unaware of the fact that the folks of Puerto Rico are, indeed, as American as Trump, which was a whole 'nother bit of stupid.)

I don't care if you're as right-wing as Yertle on a flag-waving binge - those people are Americans. You keep beating your chests and playing "more patriotic than thou," yet seem confused by the fact that Trump took days - goddamned days - before he even acknowledged that Puerto Rico needed help. The White House apparently stunned several other agencies by having no plan, none at all, when it came time to chat about a response to Puerto Rico's catastrophe, 5 days after it happened.

Americans, no matter their political views, should be outraged at how this has been handled.

'Americans' ARE the ones outrages over trump's bungling disaster relieve coordination efforts.  its the gun toting, nazi flag waving confederate statue worshiping floor humping trumpers who think Puerto Rico should suffer for the sin of being populated by brown people.  those people aren't americans.

I would sing like a lark if he came down with cholera. At his age, and in his state of health, it would kill him dead, even with treatment.

trump continues to insist that his administration is doing all they can.  meanwhile, he's busy stirring up more shiat with the NFL and playing golf while the US citizens of Puerto Rico scavenge the ruins for food, fuel and medical supplies.

I think we're going to have to admit that the federal government is no longer willing to render assistance to the people of this country.  we're on our own.  time to brush up on local civil defense and disaster planning.  plus we should start encouraging folks to become as self sufficient as they can.  we just can't count on our own government to help anymore, and if we're going to avoid loss of life we'll have to take Trump's inaction into consideration and plan accordingly.

I've long had 2030 as the date the country would break up, and I see no need to change it. I suspect we'll see the west coast make its exit move in the next five to seven years, and the northeast shortly thereafter, followed by Texas.

what gets me most about this is the trumpers.  they can see the same things we can, and they KNOW trump is f*cking this up.  But they just don't care.  AND they believe nothing bad is going to come of all this.

let me hit that again - trump and his trumpers believe NOTHING will happen to them over Puerto Rico.

that just blows me away.

Yep. We're a banana republic; the only reason we've not COMPLETELY collapsed is because we're still coasting on the position we were in post-World War 2. The longer Trump, or the GOP as a whole, has power, the closer we get to losing that position. When that happens, the American Empire will fall.

Up until this presidency, I don't think I actually knew what it was like to hate a person. Dislike a person, be disgusted by a person, sure.

But raw, hot, "I hope you die in a slow and painful manner that you see coming, but are unable to actually prevent" levels of hatred?

That's honestly a relatively new experience for me.

They are (or were) banking on the electorate not realizing that Puerto Rico is part of the United States, and thus not caring as much as if it were a state.

Hell, i used to believe that the best hope for humanity was to spread out into the universe.

Now i believe the best hope for the universe is for humanity to die out as quickly and quietly as possible.

Thanks Trumpets. What's left of my soul looks like a fossilized pile of diseased and parasite riddled octopus intestines.

Stories like this, and his growing Puerto Rican pr disaster, lead me to conclude the germophobe-in-chief will find a way to postpone his scheduled visit...Or, he'll deign to make the trip [FOX News will pant about the courage of President Trump to comfort suffering, indebted Puerto Ricans in his generous foreign aid campaign]...but won't go anywhere farther than the helipad/safe space. See how many locals' hands he shakes or babbies he kisses. To guarantee his postponement "at this time," just tell Fox-'n-Friends that people are talking about cholera.

To follow up on that, it probably would have been forgotten, to be honest...if Fat Donny hadn't been very publicly making an ass out of himself about the whole thing. If he hadn't gotten into a slapfight with the mayor of San Juan, then it probably would've fallen off the news radar pretty quickly. American media didn't give much of a fark about the earthquake and hurricanes and such in Mexico or the flooding in India, for example, and as far as the American media is concerned, Puerto Rico is just as 'foreign' as those.

we're running out of inertia.  we can't survive like this.  we've got a weak leader and no allies.  nobody seems to be running the country anymore.

sometimes I think we all get up and go to work in the morning because we're not sure what else to do.  so we pretend things are normal, while all around us evidence mounts of just how badly things are falling apart.

It's like Trump exists to prove that no one on the right gives a tinker's damn about anything they get all het up about. Hillary has a private server? Six members of the Trump administration use private servers for government business. No one cares. Rumors that Obama was golfing during Katrina (when he wasn't president) has the right harumphing all over the place. Trump is golfing at one of his properties while people in Puerto Rico are dying, and there's no outrage from the base.

We've known this about the Right for quite a while, at LEAST since Gingrich was cheating on his wife (outside the hospital where his wife was farking dying of cancer,) while leading the charge against Bill Clinton for getting an extramarital blowjob.

The modern GOP is fueled by pure greed and hatred, wrapped in pseudo-patriotism.  There is absolutely nothing redeemable about that party; its policies have been repeatedly shown to be harmful, and their leaders are more concerned with farking over the Democrats and looting the treasury than they are with actual governing.

When he's gone (and perhaps even beforehand), Republicans will try to pretend Donald Trump doesn't represent them. But he does. He's everything the GOP's worked towards since the Southern Strategy, pulled out into the spotlight for the world to see.
