This is preparation for when Bob Barker kicks it.

IIRC, Monty made a few appearances on the current Let's Make A Deal in the past few years. So he was over 90 still dealing away.

Yeah, last season on LMAD he made a very brief appearance and didn't look like life was treating him well. I thought it such a testament to his character that he still was on set any time he was able to be. He did a lot for game shows and people who needed a leg up in life.

He should be buried under 3 headstones, leaving us to wonder forever which exit he took.

Monty Hall the person will soon be forgotten by history (unless someone can monetize rebroadcasts of the game shows). However his name will live on with the Monty_Hall_problem.

. . . Paul Erdős, one of the most prolific mathematicians in history, remained unconvinced until he was shown a computer simulation demonstrating the predicted result (Vazsonyi 1999).

The problem is a paradox of the veridical type, because the correct result (you should switch doors) is so counterintuitive it can seem absurd, but is nevertheless demonstrably true. The Monty Hall problem is mathematically closely related to the earlier Three Prisoners problem and to the much older Bertrand's box paradox.

...and following common sense. If he chooses a door to reveal randomly, then it's even money. That's what took me so long to wrap my head around.

Yep. The Monty Hall problem is a wonderful illustration of why common sense and intuition take a giant dump when it comes to probability.

Imagine there's a million doors.  You choose your door, then Monty opens 999,998 of the other doors to reveal goats, leaving your door and one other fairly conspicuous skipped door.

It's not an illusion lol They're literally dead. As door nails. And it is grouped together in a manner to force you to recognize that generations rise up together and fall together.
