I'm pleasantly surprised it took three major hurricane strikes for the Trump administration to shiat the bed during the response.  I thought they would have farked up all three terribly, not just one of them.

So Trump has that going for him, which sucks for the people of Puerto Rico, but is still somehow overachieving what I expected.

Go figure it's the biggest disaster of the three that he'd fark up, and the one with a lot of Spanish speaking people involved.

The engineering schools from Puerto Rico graduate some of the most coveted students in the nation. Often defeating MIT and the like in national school competitions. If the funds and resources were available, the recovery could really be something special.

Before LOL KATRINA...

General Russel Honoré brought in the active duty Army to New Orleans a few days after landfall, and made a 180 from the initial clusterfark response.

Most of the Louisiana National Guard was deployed to Iraq, the New Orleans PD either went AWOL or joined in the looting, and FEMA well...that's why "Heckuva job, Brownie" became a punchline.

There are still people who think Keanu Reeves is a good actor, there are still people who would bang the Olsen twins (grown not the 90's version... get help), there are still people who listen to Vanilla Ice and there will always be some who still wish Emo was a thing.

Trump does the usual twitshow while ignoring the victims and attempting to flatter himself during every single crisis event. Texas and Florida mostly pumped themselves dry. The Caribbean doesn't have that luxury.

I'd invite every Trump ass-kisser to watch a few videos of the mayor of Sand Juan. This ain't no effing joke. American citizens are dying, and we just sit back and watch. "Oh, tut-tut, that's horrible. At least they aren't Americans."

No doubt Trump farked up (and continues to fark up) the response to Puerto Rico's horrifying situation. However, I would argue that he also screwed up royally with Houston. There were still people living on their roofs because they couldn't get help when Hair Force One touched down so Donnie could say "thank you all for coming to see MEEE!!!" I mean, I guess he tried to save it with another visit that didn't seem quite so photo-op-y, but he still crapped his pants (at least metaphorically speaking--gods I hope not literally).

That's no big surprise.  I mean, how dare the people of PR just expect the US to use our tax money to help them, especially since they're an island nation and should have thought about helping themselves.

Oh, what's that?  They're American citizens?  The HELL you say?!

Scapegoating had, though.

Nero almost certainly didn't play the lyre as Rome burned. For one thing, when the fire broke out, he was at his villa in Antium (now Anzio), 50km away. He quickly returned and personally oversaw efforts to bring the fire under control.

There is no real evidence of arson, much less that the fire was set on Nero's orders (as some later claimed). That didn't stop him from using the fire as an excuse to persecute Christians, of course---or to rebuild the city more to his own taste.

Trump isn't actually to blame for Hurricane Maria. He's moving much more slowly to contain the diaster than did Nero, though---and more quickly to find someone to blame it on.

Maybe he even sees the disaster as a golden opportunity to pick up lots for future Trump-branded resorts and pieds-à-terre for well-heeled central Asians at knockdown prices, once the brown population is persuaded to move on.

That population will, of course, move to the mainland and almost certainly vote against Republicans. Given how bad his relations are with the GOP are right now, though, he almost certainly couldn't care less.

It is confounding how Trump is actually doing worse than the Katrina response.
The shiatty part being Katrina was ineptitude and indifference, this Puerto Rico thing is pure malice and intentional neglect.

Doubt we'll say the same about Trump.

I am totally inept when it comes to cutting copying and editing things from the interweb to Fark, so I will just paraphrase a couple of posts I just saw in my FB page.

1- FEMA's advance teams going into some of the villages Are NOT Bringing supplies and provisions with them; and some teams Do NOT Have Spanish speaking translators with them.
2- According to another poster, ALL of the patients in one hospital's ICU died as a result of Maria's landfall.

Note, these postings are both anecdotal and I have no idea as to how they might be verified given the current circumstances.
