And yet, in spite of it all, he's still on TV making millions of dollars per year to spew stupid to the masses.

But yeah, that rhetorical victory was really sick.  Good job.

He's been doing it for years....

It happened on Fox.  Not too many people watching were there to do anything beyond 'nod and agree' with Tucker in the first place.

One of the greatest moments in all of television. Do you know that Carlson TO THIS DAY contends that he won that debate? Amazing.

2017-09-29 02:33:30 PM
This is a common problem. Someone is being told how someone is thinking and rather than deal with that, they simply reject the thinking as wrong, choosing to continue to argue over their preferred point which will always be ineffective because it's not addressing the other person's concerns.

So Tucker, rather than accepting how black people see this, decides it's a ridiculous position and will continue to try to argue about respect for the flag rather than talking about racism and perceived or real inequality. Thus, "respect the flag," gets you nowhere with the protesters.

How people can go on his show and keep their cool while defending their point is amazing. Because if I had to do that, there'd be some Jerry Springer shiat happening.

Pretty much. Tucker was doing what he normally does:  Appeals to the guest's decency by asking if he can cut in, then once they let him he starts talking and doesn't shut the fark up until the commercial break.  The guest is shuffled off stage while the cameras are off and when the break is over he declares victory.

My favorite part of that whole debate is a quickly discarded roast deserving of the savagery Stewart put down:

TC: "You need to go to a journalism school, I think."
JS: "You need to go to one."

CSB time. I was working freelance from home that election cycle. There were a lot of generally blah shows on during the day to keep on as background noise, but for some reason, that hour had nothing. So I watched ½ hour of headline news, and Crossfire. That election cycle started the Republican bullsh*t machine in highest gear as we've seen ever since. Worse still, Crossfire was just people from both sides screaming talking points at one another until a bell rang to change topics. I didn't realize it at first, but it was really starting to get to me.

I'd watched a few episodes of The Daily Show, so I was happy to see Jon was getting his own special segment to visit. What I saw was a train wreck. It was glorious! Paul Begala seemed to sense the impending danger, and tried to put the interview back on the rails, but douche-nozzle Tucker Carlson kept doubling down. What I witnessed is a TV show getting nuked on live TV. In the following days, it seemed apparent to everyone in the media and on the show that they were just done. The show quietly dies from its wounds off-camera.

I didn't know how much watching Crossfire was dragging me down until Jon destroyed them. It was an unexpected catharsis to see the hosts taken down for the sh*t show they'd created. The video of Jon's appearance still makes me smile.

She made a good point there which I hadn't though about. Trump did suggest that the "owners" have an ownership power over the players. That is, perhaps, what "casual racism" means.

It also shows you how Trump views his employees, and likely all employees, as property.

Other than racism and sexism, he has nothing in common with his most rabbit base.  Your avg Joe could watch baseball with either Bush and probably have a nice time doing so.  They could grab a beer with Obama and have a great convo.  They could watch college bball (back when Arkansas was really fun to watch) with Clinton.  Wtf would anyone do with Trump?  Say something overtly sexist about a passerby?  He has no interests outside of congratulating himself.

That's the typical defense of the indefensible.

Any time you challenge what they say, they pivot to "well I have the right to say it". It skips any discussion about the content and makes it out to wether they are allowed to say it or not. Which, "allowed" is a sticky situation too; Freedom of Speech only applies to the government punishing you for saying it. Any non-government agency firing you/refusing to let you speak in their venue doesn't apply.

What's worse about this situation is that the President stating his opinion about specific people is however dangerous. Because he, as the President, is telling the team owners to fire these guys, to take them off the field. If the team owners don't, then they are against the president. If people support these protestors, they are against the president.
