Christ, what an asshole. At this point maybe we should just let Puerto Rico go. They'd probably be better off long term anyway.

2017-09-29 09:51:13 AM
How about dumping the current President and Congress. Does that work for you?

Oh wow, Puerto Rico is screwed.

Public Call Box: How about dumping the current President and Congress. Does that work for you?

Yes.

I'm never not sad anyone voted for this a**hole.

/this week he also invented a Senator who is in the hospital, and that's why the healthcare vote failed.  He repeated the lie at least 8 times.

2017-09-29 09:52:27 AM
Maybe we'll hear about his plan in two weeks.  Time will tell.

2017-09-29 09:52:42 AM
He's just obsessed with making sure PR doesn't get a free ride, isn't he?  it's almost like he doesn't accept they're actually US citizens...

I'm sure Chinese investors would love to help them rebuild their ports.

Hm... Why did we never hear about the "big decisions" that need to be made about Houston and Florida..?

2017-09-29 09:54:56 AM
Sounds like he plans on sending bootstraps

2017-09-29 09:55:07 AM
What he means is that the areas that give him the praise and (shudder) respect he thinks he deserves will see proper funding and rebuilding. Those areas that don't will remain piles of rubble as a testament to any who dare oppose say mean things to him.

God I shudder at the thought of a Sandy type storm hitting blue states during his watch. Things have been pretty quiet in Texas so it seems things are working out OK so far there.

2017-09-29 09:55:53 AM
The dolt is pretty much guaranteeing they will vote for statehood and that they will be a blue state. Way to go!

Translation: Do I want to deal with $123 Billion in debt?

2017-09-29 09:57:15 AM
That's an exaggeration. Based on his track record, it will be rebuilt, eventually, except:

1. Puerto Ricans won't be able to afford to live there (much less be encouraged to), except in servants' quarters.

2. Only Central Asian oligarchs will want to.

3. Every important landmark will be re-named after Trump. (Sad to say, there's precedent for this in the Caribbean.)

4. The contractors who do the actual re-building will never be paid in full.

5. The whole island will eventually be sold for a dollar to whoever's daft enough to take over the island's debt.

2017-09-29 09:58:03 AM
My district has a huge Puerto Rican population. I could probably run for Congress on a statehood for PR promise and win.

I wouldn't be able to accomplish anything in Congress, of course, but at least I would make Teddy Roosevelt proud.

the_innkeeper: Hm... Why did we never hear about the "big decisions" that need to be made about Houston and Florida..?

Because he probably redlined PR from getting into his crappy properties, and he's assuming that PR is his now...

2017-09-29 09:59:11 AM
How about some long term economic stimulus. The Jones Act requires that any thing ship internally in the US be done on a US built, flagged, owned and crewed ship. What if this was repealed for PR and other US island territories. The cost of goods would come down, the economy would grow, JOBS and so forth.

I've been thinking about this lie, and the only thing that makes ANY sense to me is that he was talking about McCain.  And the fact that McCain was NOT in the hospital when he said it means that Trump thinks that the cancer diagnosis and resulting medical treatment had caused McCain to change his vote.  And Trump is mad about that.

And that's more disgusting to me than an outright lie.

Donnie...

Puerto Rico is a US territory where people live. It isn't an under-performing division of one of your useless businesses. You don't just get to shutter it and walk away like it's a farking business decision.

What a farking useless tub of shiat.

It looks like the Mexican border wall will be built out of Puerto Ricans.

2017-09-29 10:00:09 AM
Yikes. I'm sorry, Puerto Rico. This is not going to end well for you. In all fairness though, it won't end well for any of us.

I hope someday you find yourself in a situation with no electricity, drinkable water, life saving medications, hospitals, ambulance service, food and police protection so you can show off your bootstraps for the rest of us. Asshole.

Big decisions?  Sure - let's make the big decision and rebuild their infrastructure like they're going to be a state.  One of the biggest concerns in PR statehood from a financial perspective was how much money they'd need to get the place up to federal requirements for infrastructure.

If we're dropping billions to help them recover, let's do it the right way.  Bring their entire power, water, communication grids up to federal standards.  All public and commercial buildings rebuilt to mainland building codes - equivalent to Florida or Louisiana storm conditions, minimum.

How about we start treating them like Americans?

That's sensible and constructive, so of course...

Once again, a direct violation of his oath of office, and with any other President would be grounds for impeachment. But Republicans hate brown people as a matter of official policy, and only acknowledge whites as being human beings

He did? All I saw was the weird covfefe Tweet, I didn't know he octupled down on that shiat. Jesus, remember the days  when "misunderestimated" was newsworthy for like a month? Now, you can't keep up from one hour to the next.

I was just re-watching Designated Survivor and they said the President's Secret Service codename was "Phoenix". It got me thinking about what Donnie's is and found the following:
Donald Trump - Mogul
Melania Trump - Muse
Ivanka Trump - Marvel
Donald Trump Jr. - Mountaineer
Eric Trump - Marksman

Donald should be renamed Mongoloid and Ivanka should be Meschugena (Yiddish for crazy woman). What should the rest of them be renamed?

I posted this for Houston and said it before.  Disaster/rebuilding should be based strictly on a formula and should neither be discretionary or negotiable.

As an example, for every dollar the municipality pays, the State should pay at least two dollars.  For every dollar the State pays, the Feds should pay two.  Not complicated.

Considering the damage to the infrastructure there, this is the perfect time to do it. Everything pretty much has to be rebuilt, might as well do it the right way. Next, we need to rebuild the office of the president.

I like how the president is really focusing in on the important issues.

2017-09-29 10:05:41 AM
I literally heard someone snort and say "maybe they should have thought of this before voting for Hillary" when they overheard the television saying that federal response has been slow or insufficient.

That's right: that this could be seen as retaliation was justified that Puerto Rico failed to deliver their 0 electoral votes to Trump made sense to them.

Make them a state.  They'll likely be a Blue one.  Or allow them (gasp) independence.

This whole "unincorporated territory" business smacks of colonialism.  The Jones Act underscores it.  Either make them an equal state or cut them loose.

Eric should just be called "Eric". He'd get too confused otherwise.

Barricaded Gunman: What's it going to finally f*cking TAKE, Republicans, for you to do your goddamn job and rid the world of this fat orange asshole?

They are going to wait for some outside force to do it, while standing by and clucking their tongues and saying "isn't it horrible that these people did this.." while secretly being happy that the burden is now off them.

Because, like anyone wearing the scarlet R, they are craven, morally bankrupt cowards. They stand for nothing, have no moral principles, and only believe in making money for themselves and their owners.

Hopefully this disaster gives some incentive to the holdouts voting against statehood. By staying a protectorate they thought that they can have the benefits of statehood without the negatives but now they're seeing what it means to not have true representation.

What the fark is happening right now? Where am I? I've been hearing for days that supplies are stacking up at the ports and there aren't enough truck drivers to move them inland.

Can Pitbull or somebody charter a flight for 150 US Army truck drivers to go down there and solve this shiat?

Debt that our congress basically farked them over with, by setting up all the incentives for, and refusing to help fix it, or make it easier for them to fix it.

If he starts tweeting that that infrastructure is more complicated than any of knew, I'm going to scream. He isn't the King, we aren't his subjects and Puerto Rico isn't more or less deserving of rebuilding than anywhere else.

This is a non-starter. They will rebuild. 3.5 million citizens say so. If the big decision is whether we will send hundreds of billions or millions of billions, maybe a chat, but otherwise, shut up 45, and get your people to work.
