I look forward to this and can't wait to see if they really capture the enormity of the ring world and it's instabilities

from what I can remember the whole second book was about perving around farking as many aliens as the author stand-in mc could

Hopefully they do Ringworld justice.  I've long thought that it would be a great playground for series writers to go to town on.  That thin little ribbon is a million miles wide.... there's enough room right there for whatever story you want to write let alone all the room all the way up & over the 'arch'...

A couple of the books have been animated - I've got a DVD of Soul Music that I keep meaning to watch again sometime.

The thing about Terry Pratchett is that the language is almost as much an attraction as the plot - noticeable when his mind started going and his last few books were quite wooden in contrast to earlier ones.

On one hand, yes.

On the other hand AHNK MORPORK WATCH PROCEDURAL.  fark, I could write a kickass 10 eppisode season with just Ctrl+C Ctrl+V from the watch books.

Terry was a genius, but he died and we have other good writers.

No idea how they are going to make puppeteers walk worth a damn.
I hope they ditch the idiocy of the mouths for hands. Nessus drinking a glass of carrrot juice just doesn't work. Having a mouth for a hand in a spacesuit isn't any good either. Thr whole tool maker deal does not work with an eye right on top of the appendage. Sorry, rant over.
There's a lot to work with there. Bey, Sigmund, Nathan. With all the retcon from the later books, they have years of material. I wonder where they start. Probably right at Louis's birthday, hopefully with the Earth turning the right direction.

Unless it's only being shown in Super Duper IMAX Ringworld will look like "fifty feet of baby-blue Christmas ribbon one inch wide. String it in a circle, on edge on the floor, and put a candle in the middle" and nothing more.   Scale like that just doesn't fit in the human brain.

HugsAndPuppies: I can't wait!  It's about damned time someone did something with the 'Known Space' stories.  Niven created a rich universe with the Kzinti, Puppeteers, Slavers, Tnuctip, and Protectors, and today's CGI should be able to do them the justice they deserve.

He created the universe. Too bad he couldn't write worth a damn.

I think the head-mouth-hands would translate visually better than the tripod gait.  Imagine this with two heads:

But you'd lose the visual impact of that fantastic "turn-and-kick" trick. Two heads wide apart for triangulation, etc.

Mostly it was his human character interaction that sucked.  His aliens were great.  His worst character by far was Louis Wu.

I prefer that little used bit of his Universe, the bit with that Vulcan and his two Earth Human companions.

give me doughnuts: This text is now purple: mjjt: A couple of the books have been animated - I've got a DVD of Soul Music that I keep meaning to watch again sometime.

The cartoons have pretty crap animation quality and VO work.
Now I have a sad.

Hogfather and Going Postal were pretty good.
Haven't seen "Going Postal," but I loved "Hogfather."

Unfortunately, Charles Dance isn't getting any younger and Michelle Dockery has moved on to bigger things. Coyle and Foy are probably still available, but Moist and Adora only enter the series at the very end.
Who would you like to see cast as the younger version of Susan for a live-action "Soul Music."

Evanna Lynch doesn't seem too busy

Japanese style animation.

There's an anime-ish graphic novel.  I liked it, even though it's very different from how the characters look in my own mind.

Ant: Damnit! I got Discworld confused with Ringworld. I was hoping to see Rincewind and Two-Flower.

Ringworld + Discworld = Strata.

It's essentially the plot of Ringworld, but with a (pre-Discworld) Disc.
