Been playing FarCry Primal lately. Burned through most of the main quests, too many games unplayed to deal with the million fetch/find things, so it won't get a 100%. As for old games, as always I play AoEII. Just picked up the most recent expansion - gotta love a game that puts out expansions on probably 20 year old products.

I've been playing Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 Seige... It's a hoot to play with my wife and kids.  For lighter fare we've been playing Path of Exile.  Pretty much a diablo replacement MMO.  Free to play, and you get a lot of fun without spending on useless upgrades.

I've been on an old school Sierra kick.  Just finished King's Quest VI, and am having another go at the Quest For Glory series (GoodOldGames and Steam both sell all 5 games as a set for 9.99).

I'm about 160 hours into my very first runthrough of Skyrim. I killed Alduin 20 or so hours ago, and helped conquer most of Skyrim (for the Stormcloaks) like 50 hours ago. There are still holdout cities and camps with unkillable legates. I assume this means I'm not done yet, but I'm not sure. In the meantime, I'm just knocking out side quests left and right.

Any advice?

I'm still collecting the stones so I can be a full member, even tho I'm already head of the guild. I'm also a vampire, werewolf, head of the companions, head of the assassins, head of the nightingales (i think), arch-mage of the college, and a bard. And probably a couple other things I've forgotten over the last few weeks.

also, I only play on my xbox, because my crappy lappy isn't remotely powerful enough to run a Fallout game. so unless they release New California as a mod for FO4, I'm boned.

Been playing Diablo 3 on my Mac a lot. Never played before but tried it at some "History of Video Games" exhibit in San Diego this summer.

Also, just found out there was a "Chapter 2" to Half-Life 2. DL'd it and beat it. I think Half-Life 2 is probably my favorite game of all time.

I'm looking forward to the Call of Duty: WW2 beta for PC to be not broken (keeps crashing on load). Played the beta on the Xbone and dug it.

I'm looking forward to the new Star Wars Battlefront in November, and Far Cry 5 early next year.

Why has no one released a sequel to The Bard's Tale remake? There are plenty of writers looking for work., and Carey Elwes could use the money. Negotiate for the rights, hire a modeler and and a landscape artist for a couple of months to start, then then make sure Elwes is on board, choose an off-the shelf engine, then shop it to a publisher. Shouldn't take more than a year of development if you can hire the right programmers and artists. Then 6 months or so for tweaking, new dialogue etc., and another 6 months of beta testing.

I think in 2 years you could double your money on $80-100 mil, as long as you didn't get too ambitious and instead focused on story, then dialogue, then voice acting between characters, and ignored the stupid 100% thing where ou have to find some robin's egg high up in a tree that you can only get to using a teleport spell at exactly the right spot.

Aim for 40-60 hours off gameplay instead of 200+ by putting in senseless fetch quests all the way across the map. And if you do, do it sarcastically, with him biatching about the whole way. That game was brilliantly written and Elwes made it happen with his snark.

Finally got a real tabletop game together instead of that adventurer's league nonsense.

Tiny little sorcerer with every elemental cantrip in the game and fireballs for days is a go.  Already managed to win a shoving match with a raging barbarian with Gust and heighten spell, just because he challenged me, and un-made a fort's entire entrenched fortifications in less than ten minutes just before an orc attack because the DM decided to play the human-majority military command as annoyingly racist, then sank all of their boats when they tried to escape.

// Yes, I have the power of Heart, too.  It's called the "friends" cantrip.

Well, I've been a terrible gamer. Basically, all I've been playing this week is this glorified Bejeweled clone with anime boobs:

I bought it as part of a Humble Bundle, so my success at seeing all the cartoon breasts did at least effectively include a charitable donation.

I see that Lego Jurassic World is on sale on Steam, so I may buy that. Also, I'm going to finish out both XCOM: Enemy Unknown & Brütal Legendthis week to get my 12in12 back on track.

This.  I didn't have a whole lot of time to play last night but I fired up a Mazdamundi campaign.  I love the small improvements like the better end turn button, the bigger main settlements, and the different edicts.  I can't wait to get some of the bigger beasts to fight in my armies.

Last week as prep I finished my Clan Angrund campaign and also played a dwarf VH campaign after with thorgrim just to see how it felt comparatively.  Regular dwarves are so much easier even on VH.  I never even got to use many higher end units beside a couple hammerers.  I might try them some day on legendary.  Once game 3 hits, and hopefully skaven and chaos dwarves are after the mountains also, I think dwarves will be a hell of a bigger challenge.

Been trying to finish the Van Helsing game, but my single player backlog is gonna have to take a seat to Dead by Daylight.  Completely sucked in, been leveling up my Leatherface but just tried the doctor and I'm enjoying the insanity.  Doing a little survivor too, but my teammates always hookdive and leave me the sole survivor. :/

Tried lawbreakers out last night because I want to support a local developer, but I'm not very good at it and the low rank community is very toxic.  And I say this coming from dbd, where the salt builds mountains.  Maybe I just got some bad matches.

2017-09-29 09:19:35 AM
I just started Divinity: OS2. I picked the dwarf (beast) as a cleric. I am only on the second level of the opening ship. Hopefully I won't have to restart too many times from stupid character build decisions.

I tried to play some old castlevania on a raspberry pi NES emulator. The sweet memories didn't flood back.

Warframe, in prep for the Plains of Eidolon patch. Along with some Fortnite PvE, fun if you don't try to rush the campaign (Still in early access, so the content's not finished).

No Thargoids for me in Elite yet, but I've been bouncing around the bubble grinding Fed rank, picking up and kitting out my Gunship at last, and then spending a few hours getting the engineers to have a look at it.  7 engineered autocannons is a very fun way to collect bounties, it turns out.

I don't know if I'll go looking for encounters myself yet.  I mean, I probably will, because pack mentality, but there's nothing meaningful I can do with them.  Not that interested in refitting a ship as a Xenoscanner/hunter yet, but with the market tools still apparently screwed since the update, trading is a manual chore once again, and I'm burned out on exploring for awhile.  Maybe it is time to play around in Conflict Zones after all...

And iRacing... got my oval participation done in the USAC 360s at Lanier, and going to switch to Pro Mazda at Daytona Road for my road side.  Formula Renault as at Bathurst this week, and as much fun as it was to drive a league race there the thought of driving it in open play gives me the shivers....

Older games, well, I've been blathering on about the Trails (Kiseki) series here for over a year now so...

Since Battletech got pushed back to next year, I had 60$ of steam cards burning a hole in my pocket, and there was a sale last week, I made some purchases based on these threads from the last few months.

Heart of Iron 3
Crusader Kings 2
Stellaris

I've started HOI3 and Stellaris.  So far Stellaris is a lot of empire micromanaging (exploration and expansion phase on my first run-through) and it seems OK.  I like it better than Masters of Orion 3, but it doesn't seem to have the charm of 2, although that's what it most reminds me of.

I like HOI3, and I can't believe I've never played them before.  This reminds me of a more detailed Computer Third Reich, previously my favorite World War 2 grand strategy.  I like the diplomacy in it, but for the life of me, when it all hits the fan I can NOT figure out how to task my interceptors and bombers, although the enemy AI seems to have no problem with it.  I'm on easy level (learning the game), so it isn't hampering me too much, but it annoys me to no end.

Haven't played CK2 yet, but looking forward to it, right after I crush Poland (sorry guys).

Anyone with HOI3, is it imperative that I get the DLC?  I got the base game to see wat I thought of it, and I am pretty happy, but it seems like it is pretty solid without the DLC.  Anyone whit the DLC care to opine?

2017-09-29 09:26:18 AM
Loving Wasteland 2.  Not too far into it, but they won me over with the quirks and kept me hooked when I learned that choices have consequences, completionists be damned.

2017-09-29 09:26:37 AM
Panic!  PANIC!  I'm DMing my first game in decades in a full-day adventure on Sunday.  I'm running a homegrown campaign, and I'm nowhere near ready.  My mind is chock-full of D&D rules, gods and cosmology, not to mention the map, encounters, and characters of the first adventure.   I ... may have overextended myself.

The campaign's heavy on universe-mechanics (a wizard tries to understand the gods scientifically), so I've been cramming like crazy.

I also bought a few minis and I'm really happy with the results.  I've got a beholder (zombie) to scare the shiat out of the PCs, and a glabrezu as the Big Bad.  When the party first sees it, it's battling a halfling, with both of them locked in stasis.  The scale of the models is exactly what I wanted, with the glabrezu towering over the halfling, almost 3x the height.

2 more days and still so much prep to do.  Wish me luck.

I've found myself replaying Super Robot Wars Original Generation this week.

Hopefully I can get some persona 5 in this weekend though. It's been hella busy with the new twins in the house.

Still trying to unlock the rest of the engineers in E:D.  I got Selene Jean,  Ishmaak and Palin this week.

I'll tell you what, I bought myself an FAS and kitted it out for that combat zone community goal last week, and that thing is FUN.  I've got a big MC on top and a big beam on the bottom, with two medium plasma accelerators on the side, and it's a blast to fly.

But for now, I'm working on the final tweaks on my explorer AspX build.  I think it'll be time to take it out into the black again.

I haven't interacted with any thargoids yet

No.  But I am 2000 LY away from home, on my way to 3 lonely little neutron stars I found while searching for them.  They are not all that near to any nebula or other points of interests.  I have about 10 more hops to go to the first one and I haven't seen a claimed system in the last 10.  I may be able to claim then?

I have only been able to play about 2 or 3 hours of the update. What has changed from exploring (at least on the PS4)
-Unexplored / unpopulated systems come up as anarchy instead low security/clean now.
-I saw that there was something to do with salvage in the release notes.  So I stopped and checked the random 'unidentified signal' that pops up.  Data caches are no longer illegal.
-
I will stop for more of them.  Maybe with an update, I'll get a random Thargoids encounter? Which would suck way out in deep space.  I probably have about 40 mil in exploration data saved up at this point. I have gotten really good at cool down/activate/boost/re-enter FS from the times I had a few painite from a mining run, though.  So I got that going for me, which is nice.

Wife and all my kids are busy and gone this weekend.  Not busy as in I have to do stuff, but I'm still home.  They are gone gone. I have been working mostly from just before 7am until 10 or 11pm every night this week.  I am taking time for me when I am done with work today.... and hopefully tomorrow.  And stocking up on some libations, because drinkin' and explorin' is so much fun.

/I'd say cue the pietasters, but that is probably a little obscure for most.

For Skyrim fans that don't know yet, a head's up. Unlike Fallout 4, you'll have to get the survival mode through the CC. I think the Frostfall creator is involved. Cost is 800 credits. The lowest tier for buying credits is 750, so if you've used up the free 100 when it launched for Fallout, you need spend more for the 1500 deal. However, they're making it free for the first week. The Cazador dildo using turds are trying every trick in the book.

Guildwars 2 path of fire expansion came out last week, so I started playing that after the hurricane of server bugs that usually comes with an expansion passed.  Otherwise it's been Breath of the Wild as it's one of the few things i can do on a 3 hour commute to NY with 2 of those hours being on a train.

Does anyone remember the game which used to advertise in Dragon magazine with art of a graffiti wall/alley saying "Always outnumbered, never outgunned"? There may have been a dead person on the ground kinda Borderlands looking and I think the game was cyberpunk-y/dystopian future. I cannot remember the name.

Also, scalpers have the SNES up to $180 on Amazon. People are assholes.

ox45tallboy: Why has no one released a sequel to The Bard's Tale remake?

inXile is currently making Bards Tale 4. They made Wastelands 2, Torment and are working on Wasteland 3 so they are a bit busy. I think I recall them saying they wanted to revisit the Bards Tale remake in one of the kickstarter videos they did they. I wouldn't think it would happen anytime soon.

I'm playing Divinity Original Sin 2. Pretty awesome turn based combat RPG. Multiple ways to accomplish goals and the environmental effects in combat are great. Something other RPGs should incorporate imo.

I'll be picking up my pre-order for the SNES Classic after work, unlock Star Fox 2 and play the hell out of that, then probably go download Golf Story for the Switch.

As far as old games, going through the lot of Famicom games I bought was interesting.  Transformers is as bullshiat as advertised, though the Macross game was pretty good.  Got some RPGs like Samsara Naga I have to get translation patches for, but looked interesting.  Dragon Quest definitely ruled the day in the Famicom era and it shows in the influence on styles.

Finally getting around to the Metroid 2 remake for 3ds and I am loving it. So far it's a very good reimagining of the original.

For older games I picked up and loved I would say Anacronox. It is a cyberpunk RPG that has tons of charm. Some of the fetch quests and such can be a bit annoying, but the combat is fun and the overall atmosphere is kind of a cross between Blade Runner and National Lampoon. If you like turn based RPG's and the Cyberpunk genre, you can't go wrong with giving it a try.

Picked up Shadow of Mordor on a $5 sale and had no real expectations for it at all, but it's actually rather fun.  You get to be both immortal and overwhelmingly powerful, but it's still not a cakewalk since there are just so many damn orcs.  The nemesis system is a great idea- you actually get to know some of the orcs (and they know you) so you end up being pissed at that one guy who's randomly shown up twice right as you're finishing a difficult fight with another named orc and called down a freaking swarm of orcs to fight all over again.

Plus, I love the bit when you call up the spirit to gain intel from an orc- - that "Forfeit your mind!" followed by the look of (really well animated) terror on the face of the orc is just awesome

Also working on Witcher 3 as I never beat it when it came out and now I have all the DLC as well.

WoW but mainly just for raid night, 8/9 on heroic Tomb of Sargeras.

They had better get Cary Elwes and a good writer or six, or I shall be forced to sulk for at least a week. Play it like the last one with a occasional 4th wall break and a sarcastic take on RPG tropes, and I shall be a happy camper.

Glockenspiel Hero: Picked up Shadow of Mordor on a $5 sale and had no real expectations for it at all, but it's actually rather fun.

Yeah I can't wait for the sequel, hopefully it lives up to the hype.

I am currently still playing Skies of Arcadia Legends (in stereoscopic 3D because of my addiction to silly gimmicks). I suppose that would also address the question of the headline.

I also recently discovered that my 3DS XL (not a New model, though) is on exploitable firmware, so I grabbed soundhax and a guide and now I have CFW installed on the system. I have ordered a 64GB SD card and I plan to rip all of my 3DS games to it, then I will look into system emulators -- though I may end up 'acquiring' some Virtual Console titles and using injection as that apparently produces better results.

Additionally, I picked up Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice on GOG because reviews are positive and I wanted to support an independent developer who is not going through a publisher who demands the inclusion of microtransactions or who insists that the game content be broken apart with removed components sold as DLC.

I will hopefully get some 'mersion time in Elite Dangerous this weekend.

Oh, and I learned about this. I think that I am going to have to check this out.

Petey4335: GRCooper: Still computerless for the next week and a half, so living vicariously through forums about the big Elite Dangerous update.

Any of you E:D guys been blowed up by Thargoids yet?

Cool, it's always cool to get the first discoverer message :)

In reading about the updates, I'm kind of glad I've been offline for a couple of months.  With the ability to craft heatsinks and the new repair limpets, etc., I'm probably going to cut this galaxy circumnavigation short and run back to the bubble to reequip my Cutter with all the new, cool stuff.  I'd probably be much further out than I am - 8 or 9 thousand light years.  It'll still take me a while to haul back (25 light year jump range).

Still goofing around with Fallout 4, mostly tweaking settlements and my secret underground lair. Combat has become a bit one-sided since I found some seriously broken legendary weapons (two-shot Gauss rifle and wounding minigun to be specific). Sure I don't have to use them, but then there's a certain satisfaction in one-shotting behemoths and queens...

In tabletop news:

Princes of the Apocalypse: My guys have made it to the Howling Caves deep below the Fane of the Eye and are in a race to stop the evil air cult priestess from reaching the node. My Halfling Shadow Monk managed to one-shot a demon thanks to my crit/fumble table rolling "decapitation". Showdown should be next week.

Tomb of Annihilation: We had our session 0 last week, my husband and I decided to play a married noble human couple, one from Chult and one not. My playing a sword and board fighter and hubby is playing a ranger and we plan to play up the whole "English Nobility on Holiday" angle. Hubby is a big game hunter and I'm a knight with a love for "The Art of War" quotes. Her name is Beatrix "Trixie" Caspian Rutherford and my husband's is "Wintrop Q. Rutherford".

Derelict Sky: This is a Cypher system game (Era: The Consortium), my husband is running and we are still trying to figure out the rules. It's been fun so far, we're firefly-esque crew on a mission to investigate a space refinery that, you guessed it, is full of xenomorphs and a cat. The person who hired us knew and has us in a pinch because he is threatening to destroy our ship. My character is a hacker who is desperately trying to save the cat and her crew mates' lives.

I might be able to play some skyrim this weekend, I'm finishing up the Brotherhood and Thieves' Guild quests and then will turn to the main story. Stormcloaks for life!

DrunkenBob: Loving Wasteland 2.  Not too far into it, but they won me over with the quirks and kept me hooked when I learned that choices have consequences, completionists be damned.

Wasteland 2 is excellent.  Beware of relying heavily on snipers though, towards the end of the game, it can make one particular fight very difficult.

-I will stop for more of them.

I haven't checked, but didn't they change the route plotting limit from 1000Ly to 20000Ly?  That would be a really nice change for exploring.

Carn: WickerNipple: [upload.wikimedia.org image 271x377]

Started as high elves and already have dragons after just a few hours.  Was surprised to see the HE get them with only a lvl 4 building.

I found Clan Angrund crazy easy.  Nothing you fight early on can deal with four ethereal characters charging right at them.  Hell not much later can either.

Atomic Jonb: So far Stellaris is a lot of empire micromanaging (exploration and expansion phase on my first run-through) and it seems OK. I like it better than Masters of Orion 3, but it doesn't seem to have the charm of 2, although that's what it most reminds me of.

I like Stellaris, but it takes F O R E V E R. And I feel like everything is going along swimmingly, then some random empire gets pissed and cleans my clock.

I got an SNES Classic at midnight at my local Walmart. Played through the easiest cup of F-Zero and really enjoyed it. Gonna play through Until Dawn for this weekend to kick off my annual mostly horror games only October.

GhostfacedFiddlah: Panic!

Step one: Breathe!
Step two: Get a rough outline of where you want the part to good with hooks and the like, but have a few back up options as well.
Step three: You don't have to be perfect, all DMs make mistakes and forget rules occasionally, just be fair.
Step four: Don't be afraid to steal, modify some AL and DMs Guild modules for your campaign, especially in the beginning.

If you need mooks for regular encounters, check out Rich Burlew's "Monster for every season"

Paper cutouts that you fold to stand up. Some nice art on them, and it will make the actual minis stand out even more.

Also Order of the Stick is a fantastic (if slow to update) D&D webcomic

Flashfyr3: Wife texted me this morning to let me know she was able to get an SNES classic at Target, so instead of airbrush priming and base coating my space marine army I've been assembling I'm going to try that out this weekend.

Which Space Marine chapter? Back when I played 40K, I had a Salamanders army (started them in 3rd Edition under Codex: Armageddon, so was upset that they got a reputation as cheesemongers in 4th/5th edition). I've been out since 6th Edition, so I live vicariously through the Horus Heresy novels and other people still playing. I've had a ridiculous number of armies

2nd Edition
Blood Angels (they came in the boxed set)
Orks - Bad Moonz, specifically
Genestealer Cult
Tyranids

3rd Edition
Salamanders
Craftworld Eldar
Thousand Sons
Tau

Kept the Tau & Salamanders through to 6th edition

4th Edition
Imperial Guard

5th & 6th was mostly just expanding the 3rd & 4th edition ones, but I think I also added a Black Legion army and maybe some Evil Sunz Orks. Sold out midway through 6th.

McGrits: I just started Divinity: OS2. I picked the dwarf (beast) as a cleric. I am only on the second level of the opening ship. Hopefully I won't have to restart too many times from stupid character build decisions.

Muddle through Act I (the first island), and the ship becomes your home base, and includes a magic mirror you can use for free to reshuffle your character points.
That said, I only used it once - started with the undead guy, Fane, and got Pet Pal so I could talk to animals... and then picked up Sebille, the elf, who can talk to animals. Reshuffled that point. But other than that, there's enough latitude in the builds that the points don't really matter so much.

My wife and I are now on the second island, so will not give spoilers. But for a tip - if you stealth and pickpocket people, when they notice they've been robbed, they'll demand to search you. You can try to talk them out of it or bribe them, or, if you only steal skill books, you can quickly learn them before they demand to search. When they do search, you've got nothing stolen on you, so they grudgingly let you go. And skill books can be some of the most expensive and most useful items, so it's well worth it.

Other tip - having different characters focus on different spell types is obvious and makes sense. You've got the pyro guy, the warfare guy, the necromancer, etc. However, polymorph is a jack-of-all-traits skill, and it may be worthwhile to have everyone pick up a point or two in it. For example, your tank can grow bull horns and charge in to combat; your ranged attacker can grow wings and fly up to high ground or fly away from melee; your stealth guy can turn invisible, etc.

leeto2: I've been playing Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 Seige... It's a hoot to play with my wife and kids.  For lighter fare we've been playing Path of Exile.  Pretty much a diablo replacement MMO.  Free to play, and you get a lot of fun without spending on useless upgrades.

My dad saw me playing Path of Exile one day.  As far as I can tell, that might have been one of the worst moments in human history, because it got him hooked.

But he doesn't know how to play.  And he refuses to learn.  He doesn't read the wiki, he doesn't even read the help files.  He just asks me a question every other day (usually a repeat of some question from the week before).  The only reason he does anything on the passive tree is because that plus sign pops up on the screen when he levels.

The man has - GOD ONLY KNOWS HOW - made it to level sixty using only a two button mouse.  I tried to teach him how to use the keyboard for flasks and skills or even just for faster selling of items, but he won't have it.

So I've been doing three things. Firstly, I got a Yoke and Throttle Quadrant for use with FSX:SE and Have been loving every second of it, flying with a yoke is a whole lot different than a joystick. Been sticking with the general aviation stuff for now till I get used to it.

MOUNTS!

The Path of Fire expansion has been a kick in the pants so far. Turns out if you mobilize an entire continent and kill two Elder Dragons on your own, it pisses off the God of War. Who knew? Certainly not my Sylvari (on the red raptor, next to the gigantic Nord) but eh, I'm a Guardian, fire doesn't bother me too much.

The Prodigy album of that same name had a graffiti cover back in the day. Maybe it was an ad for that next to an ad for a game?

LOL, I didn't take it that way.  We typically do a "Squad" terrorist hunt with the other maps mixed in.  We don't feel like we're good enough to play with other folks online, and we don't really want to deal with griefing BS.  Besides, my wife gets lost in the map frequently,  we have a tendency to accidentally shoot each other, usually by running into a teammates line of fire..so we'd rather play against the AI.  That's challenging enough. :)

inXile is currently making Bards Tale 4.

Divinity Original Sin 2 looks like a Balder's Gate style game. I've been wanting to play one of those for a long time. Just got to get a job first.

Smoking GNU: Slaxl: C&C Tiberium Wars! Take that you filthy Nod bastards!

I can't believe it's 10 years old. Well, I can when I look at the graphics, but besides that, I can't believe it.

Me, i'm playing Tiberium Sun. It's 17 years old and i'm still having a blast. Which answers both questions in the headline.

I play generals zero hour, which lacks the gdi nod stuff but is the best most balanced overall game of the series.

DNext Wednesday, I will be having my ankle fused.  Will be off work a month and then working from home for an additional three.  I fully expect to play the shiat out of my Steam backlog.

Despite the backlog, I just picked up Dead Island: Definitive Edition while it was on "Eh, fark it" sale last week.  Played the original twice and now plan to go through a third time.  I have no idea what it is about that game that i liked so much, but there's never been another I've played through three times.

I just love the Scud Storm in that, especially with the explosive expert general.  Man, that is some mayhem!

Regarding playing an older game... many years ago (when it was new, and even years later) I'd heard nothing but good things about Dungeon Hack. Let's Play Dungeon Hack #01: Introduction

And I thought "I need to buy this." Then I discovered I already owned it from one of the GOG collections, and now I can't stop playing it lol.

In fact, here's the dungeon I'm slogging through now (I took a screenie of the code if you'd like to join me in spirit). Use the dungeon seed below and you'll get the same dungeon I have:

(For those who don't know you can set a TON of options. I'll link a YT video demonstrating that in my next post.

Forza 7 on the PC.   It runs and looks fantastic,  the menus and car purchasing is a little messed up but that may be because I put so many hours into 6 and 7 is a bit different.
Overall I am really enjoying it,  definitely less frustrating to play with an xbox controller than Project Cars 2 and the selection of cars suites me better in Forza.

Got a new pc on the way next week so I'm going to try and not play anything until it gets here. I had originally just bought a new video card but then I went to install it and said "fark it might as well do it right" and I've now got a new Ryzen 1800 system on the way (minus the videocard). The Ryzen benchmarks aren't setting the world on fire like I hoped they would but it will still be better than what I have now and was still plenty cheaper than an Intel build and I don't game like I used to enough to justify spending Intel money anymore.

Wofenstein: The New Order. Got it on sale. It started strong but then got way too repetitive.
Beat final boss. Felt completely underwhelmed. But damn that game did a great job of making you feel helpless.

How many times can you be surprised and stabbed in a cutscene and NOT die. So many times I thought it was a long death cinematic and then suddenly, you're fine and continuing.

I'm going to pick up my SNES Classic pre-order today at lunch, and I look forward to revisiting some old friends.  I've also been playing Metroid: Samus Returns, which is fun but flawed, and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag on the Wii U, which is my first ever AC game and I'm enjoying it except that it feels "sticky" - it feels sometimes like you get stuck to objects, like instead of jumping over a downed tree, you end up running up the tree, which isn't what I wanted to do and it took me into the line of sight of an enemy.  Also, walking speed is glacial, but sprinting is often too fast.  I wish there was more of a scale, like there was in Splinter Cell: Blacklist, which came out the same year from the same developers.

Also, Ballz.  High score 260!

2017-09-29 11:45:06 AM
Picked up the SNES Classic this morning. I got to Best Buy too damn early. They had more tickets than there were people in line. I went home to walk the dog and shower before heading back when the doors opened at 9:00. When the doors opened they had run out of tickets. The clerks wouldn't say how many they had, but the lady in front of me had ticket #101.

I'm planning to start a game of Link to the Past and a few others of my favorites like Donkey Kong Country and MegaMan X. If I'm able to meet up with any of my gamer buddies for some couch co-op I'll be sure to get in some Mario Kart, F-Zero and Street Fighter II Turbo. I'm also looking forward to taking another crack at Super Mario RPG. I rented it a couple of times as kid but never beat it before I had to take it back to the video store.

In non-nostalgia gaming, I've been playing some Marvel vs Capcom Infinite online. The netcode is pretty solid and the UI is sooooooo much better than SFV. I'm pretty terrible at the game, but at least my wave dashing is getting better (baby steps). Also played my first couple competitive games of Overwatch in a few weeks. The new Mercy is hella strong.

If you play a character without an "Identify" spell, you can find in-game artifacts that will ID items for you.  I think they were called looking glasses, or something like that.  Its been a long, long time since I've played Dungeon Hack.  I remember it was alternating fun and then frustrating as hell.  But then again, I was never a big fan of rogue-likes.

Dimensio: SonsoftheSod: For Skyrim fans that don't know yet, a head's up.

Or, alternatively, I look for a fan-made "survival" mod on the Nexus.

Is there any word presently on when that is going to be available?

LucklessWonder: Flashfyr3: Wife texted me this morning to let me know she was able to get an SNES classic at Target, so instead of airbrush priming and base coating my space marine army I've been assembling I'm going to try that out this weekend.

Back in high school when I played (2nd into 3rd) I had an Ultramarines army that ended up lost to time many years ago and just recently got the bug to build some again.  Got Dark Imperium Primaris guys, a tactical squad, a devastator squad, Marneus Calgar and honor guards, a Sternguard squad, and Roboute.  Getting my Ultras back.  Just sold the Chaos components to the box on ebay and i'm gonna use that to get a couple tanks or dreadnoughts.

Looking forward to playing some old favorites.

Subtle griefing is the best griefing, because there's bad people, on both, on both sides.  Very bad people.

You need to play Friday the 13th then.  Nothing's more aggravating than a character with bad repair "helping" by trying to fix the car and alerting Jason due to all the fark ups they make or wandering aimlessly with key items like the phone fuse or the car keys, then dying far away from where people would find your ragdoll.

Plus, if they ever fix Chad's luck, a good Chad can troll Jason for most of the round.  Even a mediocre one like me can stall him for a few minutes most of the time.

I'm sitting on the tail end of BOTW because I've been pretty damn lazy (and also picky about lighting when I play since the WiiU is hooked up to my Projector; I prefer it to be dark but the wife doesn't like turning the lights off when she's working in the living room) and partly because I just don't want it to be over. The wife beat the game over the weekend and immediately started a Master Mode playthrough. This is unheard of for her as she freely admits she has no patience to play through most games more than once. I'll probably just finish it off this weekend. I'm also debating hitting our "local" Walmart this weekend to see if they'll have an SNES Mini in stock (we live in the middle of fark-all nowhere so this isn't as crazy as it sounds. They frequently have Switches in stock as well) as a surprise for her. She's not picky nor squeamish about Emulators but the SNES was "her first" and she immediately fell in love with the tiny size of the Mini. As for me, I hit a Computer Works while we were in Dallas last weekend and managed to pick up a working PS2, some controllers, and a Network/HDD adapter for like 30 bucks total, so now there's a 250GB ATA HDD on the way that's immediately going to get loaded with Free MCBoot and a bunch of crazy old shiat when it arrives tomorrow, at least according to the tracking number. I've had a serious craving lately for the PS2 Castlevanias and some Katamari Damacy, and the wife has always wanted to look into Kingdom Hearts, so we'll both get what we want.

Yup, scrying glasses or scrying mirrors. I can't remember which hehe. But you only get around 3 uses on each. I'd rather go cleric/mage and be able to identify all the stuff I want.

Yes on Elite the new routing is much better. I think the distance is at least 10,000 ly. I have tested for an 1,200ish ly route and it worked fine, it is also much faster than before and if it's going to fail because you have a filter condition it fails quickly instead of spinning for minutes.

One Thargoid sighting as I was near Maia after the update working on the CG. After the CG was over I looked at missions and there was so much money to be made I stuck around the area. I have not been hyperdicted yet even though it seems to be fairly common in the area according to the forums. I had to check out a Non-Human signal source for fun. I dropped and came to a stop, Thargoid rushed over and scanned me then went about his business sorting through wreckage.

I have been spending my last month studying for my oral boards in surgery on top of my normal 60-80 hour per week day job so I haven't had much time for gaming, but I have been watching some of the Christopher Odd YouTube videos about War of the Chosen to at least satisfy part of my craving.  I actually finally bought it off Green Man Gaming the night after the test and I just found out yesterday that I passed (that's right, Dr. Nick Riviera is now certified by the American Board of Surgery), so I am going to spend a good chunk of the weekend digging into that.

I also got my wife the Monster Box of Monsters expansion for the Hogwarts Battle card game about a month ago for her birthday but we haven't played it yet, so that looks like a likely activity for this weekend as well.

ox45tallboy: Why has no one released a sequel to The Bard's Tale remake?

I loved the original BT games as a kid (and went through a lot of graph paper playing them), and then got the remake on PS2 years ago.  I loved the idea, once I got over the fact that it's a solo game instead of a party, but I got stuck fairly early on because Im apparently terrible at video games, so I never finished it.

/Not-so-cool story bro.

Been kicking around in Rimworld, doing a very good job at having things snowball out of control to the point that I got everyone deathly injured and then a lightning storm hit, lit stuff on fire and burned everything to the ground.

Also playing some Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock   I'm enjoying it so far for the space naval warfare that you've always wanted and at the same time feeling like I just want a little more of everything.  That said, it does feel nice to blow up some toasters.

I should do another round or two ofarkII or EUIV, but if I'm gonna do that I need to like block out an entire day, or deal with only doing 50-60 years at a time over a couple weeks.

Hmm....also Re: Stellaris......I haven't played in awhile, but I really which one of these Space 4x's could figure out how to implement an old Star Trek style neutral zone.   None of this 'our borders touch' nonsense.   Just some expansive neutral zones that don't actually restrict travel, but you can set up monitoring stations and whatnot and use neutral zone infractions as pretexts for war or concessions.

Finally found a boxed copy of Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday for SG. Only $55. Everything still there, even the map and TSR ads.

Been playing a lot of Slime Rancher and Everspace recently. Slime Rancher has a surprisingly high content ratio and even though I've been playing it for a couple weeks now, I'm still finding new things that change a lot of stuff. Stupid fun, most of the time.

Also just found all of my character backups from Titan Quest and reinstalled the Anniversary Edition.

We've got another session of Star Wars Imperial Assault on the tabletop tonight. To me, it's kind of an oddball game, given how PRESSURED you are to complete goals ( get X done in 5 rounds or you lose ) when the game feels like it really wants to be a miniature fighty/skirmishy/battle game. Then again, we are just playing through the campaign, which might be the reason.

I'm hoping that we can move on to something different after the campaign finishes, with my choice being trying out Blades in the Dark.

Last night, was THAC0 Thursday, so we're continuing our 5th ed Forgotten Realms game. We went and killed some Orcs in a place called Wyvern Tor, and then we lied to a Red Wizard of Thay/Necromancer about how the guy that built the wizard's tower was named Alenerol. The Necromancer bought it, and it turns out he needed the name of the builder so he could take control of a Revenant. We gave him the wrong name, so the thing killed him. Of course, our party was only level 3 (we dinged 4 at the end of the session), so we couldn't take him out. My Gnome Illusionist (named Bramble Fox) cast invisibility on himself to escape the revenant, and went to loot the dead Necromancer. Picked up a dagger, a healing potion, and a note that he had written "Ha ha, if you're reading this it means I'm dead and I buried all of my loot so you don't get anything." I didn't find that out at first though, so as I'm there, the Revenant comes back into the tower where I'm trying to loot things, and blocks the entrance. It saw me looting things, so it knows that something is in there. I start stuffing books into a backpack - hoping to find a spellbook (remember I haven't read the ha ha note). Long story short, I stole a book on anatomy, and a book on history. Decided to climb over the wall of the ruined tower to get away from the Revenant that is just standing there waiting for me to give myself away. While I was climbing, he still managed to hit me once, but my epic wizard hitpoints saved me with 2 hp to spare. I got inspiration out of the whole ordeal, so it wasn't a total loss. It was a good session.

As far as video games, I've been playing a lot of Skyrim the last few weeks. I've got my character up to level 57 or so. I'm making progress on the Thieves Guild, Brotherhood of Death, and Wizard's College quest chains. Just recently went legendary on Sneak, so my character has gone from awesome to suck where stealth is concerned. I'm on the brink of doing the same with archery. I have smithing at 100, but I'm going to leave it there for a little while until I've made all the dragon armor and weapons that I want, then I'm going to go legendary on that and start using the materials that I've been saving up to level it again. Just recently hit 80 or so enchanting. Used up all of my filled common, petty, and lesser soul gems. All in all, it's coming along slowly but surely.

TempeSun: palelizard: Does anyone remember the game which used to advertise in Dragon magazine with art of a graffiti wall/alley saying "Always outnumbered, never outgunned"? There may have been a dead person on the ground kinda Borderlands looking and I think the game was cyberpunk-y/dystopian future. I cannot remember the name.

The Prodigy album of that same name had a graffiti cover back in the day. Maybe it was an ad for that next to an ad for a game?

/I honestly just Googled this for the last 20 minutes to help solve your mystery!
//That name seems to be all Prodigy or military patches

I remembered another ad for it. The RPG is Underground. Haven't found the ad itself, but it's definitely the right game. Thanks for looking.

Finally bought XCom 2 War of the Chosen, and WOW what a difference. Did not expect it to be as feature packed as it is, but what a dramatic change to the game. Really good stuff.

Tried the CoD WW2 beta last night, and it's.. well. It's CoD, not sure what else to say. I think the sound the Garand makes is the most unsatisfying weapon sound I've heard in a long time, which is a shame since MOH AA basically perfected the sound of the Garand over a decade ago. It definitely is an improvement over every installment since MW3, but I don't know if it's enough to make me buy another CoD game.

Probably picking up Divinity 2 this weekend. I was going to buy it and play it earlier this week, but I felt dirty even thinking of playing a game like that solo. So I'm waiting for my group to get paid.

Fortnite Battle Royale is a lot better than it should be. I actually really like the building aspect of it all, but the weapons are a wee bit unsatisfying to use compared to PUBG.

Picked up Picross S and Golf Story yesterday for Switch, so I'll be getting into those this weekend.

Also going for the best ending in Metroid: Samus Returns.

Oh, and trying unsuccessfully to find the Samus / Metroid amiibo pack.

The only thing I didn't like about Dungeon Hack was that, as a single character 2nd edition AD&D game, you were pretty much required to be multiclass.  Cleric/Mage or Cleric/Mage/Fighter were the only viable options.

McGrits: I just started Divinity: OS2. I picked the dwarf (beast) as a cleric. I am only on the second level of the opening ship. Hopefully I won't have to restart too many times from stupid character build decisions.

I tried to play some old castlevania on a raspberry pi NES emulator. The sweet memories didn't flood back.

Warning:
When you get to the main town in the second act (Driftwood), DO NOT talk to the couple having a picnic.  I lost like 8 hours of playtime because talking to them bugs your char so you can't complete a bunch of NPC interactions.  It can be worked around (using other party members, and one of the "fixes" involves chaining two chars together), but since I pretty much killed everyone else >.>

Currently Many Faced God Fane has found an eternal vault, and saved a Sourcerer (to then steal his face) when shiat caught on fire.  Don't cast magic on the top of an oil rig, friends.

I think I'm around 30/30/30 str/int/wits, 20ish memory, max summoner (think its technically 12/10 with gear), 6 pyromancer, 4 aero, 2 hydro, 2 hunts, 1 poly.

shortymac: GhostfacedFiddlah: Panic!

Good advice.  I read similar advice in The Lazy DM: Re-skin existing creatures as something unique.  I wanted to create a creepy vibe, so I'm including some "Scuttlers", which are large fleshy crabs with humanoid faces.  But I'm just using the stats from Giant Centipedes rather than try to roll my own monsters.

Theaetetus: McGrits: I just started Divinity: OS2.

I got supremely annoyed that i clicked the mirror not knowing it respecced (something I didn't want to do) and I lost my +1 all stats rose potion.  It didn't even erase after using the mirror, just randomly disappeared later and I can't be bothered to go back even farther than I already have.

Don't be afraid to fudge your rolls in the interest of fun.

ALMOST dying on the first fight is fun.  ACTUALLY dying in the first fight farking sucks, especially if you're the only one who goes down.

/double especially if it's due to a lucky crit from an enemy.

I have to admit, I'm disappointed how useless the face-stealing ended up being.  I guess it's better as a generic Undead, but as Fane, you can get your original mask back about five seconds after leaving Fort Joy anyway.  Unless there are some unique faces, and nothing seems to suggest that's the case, there's really no benefit to it other than "it's fun to kill people and rip their faces off."  For that matter, since most gear covers up all the relevant undead bits anyway, the mask's disguise powers really don't help you unless you particularly want to use the target race's special traits for a minute.

I'll check out the videos. I'm a filthy console peasant on the XBone or I'd be happy to wing up. I'm practicing my combat skills PVE at the moment and trying to pick between a Fed Assault Ship and a Fed Gunship. Not that great with combat other than running away as far as PVP goes but will hit the CG in open and do my best to run through most blockades. Euyribia or whatever it is was a slaughterhouse in open at the last CG, at least part of the time. I went to Maia to get on the other CG and get away from the gank fest. Managed to never die while doing my hauling in an Orca that boosts to 507 and plenty of shield but nearly blew it up crashing into the station a couple times.

Broke down and got Destiny 2 since some friends are playing it.  Currently at lvl 11/20 soloing the campaign, trying to catch up to my lvl 20 friends.  Looking forward to that.  I like it enough so far, but it's not blowing my hair back.  Probably will be more fun with friends, tackling tougher content.  Also, I'm just starting to get blue drops, so I can see that more exciting things are in store.

Put my entire PS4 library on an external drive so I can access it all.  Fired up Dark Souls 3 and started a new character, only to get stuck right away (25+ min of dying on the first boss).  Might just go back to my leveled up guy and respec if I'm actually that curious about different playstyles.  :)

Space should only be a concern with this thing if you can't even find room for a remote. PS4 and 360 controller for scale. That said, I won't fault you for sticking to other methods, especially if Nintendo's supply chain continues to embarrass itself. Our local Best Buy apparently got 20, compared to 5 of the NES version, so that's a marked improvement, if still low.

Wow, keep forgetting it's Friday and then I see this thread... I need a nap!

Grabed Metroid: Samus Returns over the weekend and enjoying that quite a bit. It definitely shows its age in things like the lack of enemy variety, but definitely a lot of fun.

Some of the bosses can be frustrating though, right now I'm stuck on the robot thing and trying to scour the planet for more energy tanks. All I keep finding are missiles though...

I need an idea for a game that I can play with my GF.
Something like an old school rts, with base building, resource gathering and a deep tech tree.
Basically something we can play together and build stuff our own cities and whatnot, then when we get bored we can war or war against the computer.

I prefer real time, but RTS has a genre seems to have died.
I feel like we will be playing Age of Empires 2 or Rise of Nations. I wish I kept my copies of Battle for Middle Earth 1 & 2. I can't believe they aren't on steam.

I've never played multiplayer turn base? How does that work. I feel like it would take forever.

Suggestions?

I see that Lego Jurassic World is on sale on Steam, so I may buy that. Also, I'm going to finish out both XCOM: Enemy Unknown & Brütal Legendthis week to get my 12in12 back on track.

Also, here's a link to one of my Minecraft streams where I die. A lot.

For turn-based, I'd recommend one of the later Civ games (5 or 6) or Endless Space. Total War: Warhammer (1 or 2) is also fun co-op -- it has a feature where you can 'gift' units to your co-op partner for a battle, so they can control part of your army instead of sitting on their hands. Note: these games can take a relatively long time from start to finish, so expect multiple sessions.

RTS is tricky, it's almost all about micromanaging your units for combat nowadays, not base-building and resource management.

Game of Scones: Picked up Picross S and Golf Story yesterday for Switch, so I'll be getting into those this weekend.

Also going for the best ending in Metroid: Samus Returns.

Oh, and trying unsuccessfully to find the Samus / Metroid amiibo pack.

I know things are different for each area, but I found the Samus/Metroid pack at my local Target the Sunday after they came out. They weren't located with their other stock of Amiibos. I had to ask a clerk if they had them. They did have 4 or 5 packs of them available though. The same Target had more than enough SNES for everyone in line this morning.

Turn timers and saving the game to pick it up later are your friend. I have a Civ 6 game a few buddies and I dive into a couple times a week that we've had going for about a month now. Turn based multiplayer is fantastic if you don't mind putting in the time.

My concern is HDMI ports. I just bought a switcher so that I can connect my Switch and then possibly get an XBone or a PS4. I do not know if it will accommodate more than that.

Oh definitely.  Basically, some racists you can race switch to get favorable dialogue (or quest chains like the shrine in the woods in the second area) but mostly I switch to elf to eat some body parts (which barely drop anymore once you get past fort joy) for a few bits of "memories".  Haven't gotten a skill from them in ages.

But it sorta makes me have a check on my character.  I literally have 30 strength as a complete caster because ~170 of my 260 equip load is literally faces.

I found it most disappointing when I found out you didn't even have to cover up the entire face (such as with the bucket helmets) to present as "human".  I'm wearing a freaking hood.  My entire skull face is showing, but only when I pull back my hood people are like OMG UNDEAD.

Which I also thought would be way more fun than it is.  It's impossible to chase and attack NPCs that are bolting for the exit in this game, because you have to stop to attack and can't swing on the run, and if the target is moving you pretty much are guaranteed to miss.  Which farks with me all the time when im sneak attack poking lookouts to make them "chase me" to arrest my ass before I kill him away from his friends.

As for old games, I'm finally getting around to completing Anachronox. I've had it since release, and it should probably be counted as a mortal sin to have not finished it. Grabbed the GoG copy, because they are motherfarking compatibility wizards, and installed on my Surface last night.

doctorguilty: I finally tore the shrinkwrap off my copy of Skyrim Legendary Edition for my PS3. I've only just started, but it's been fun so far. I'm looking forward to seeing what all the fuss is about.

If it's anything like Oblivion on the PS3.....throw it in the trash and save yourself the frustration on waking up to all your 100+ hour savegames corrupted.

Anything Elder Scrolls or Fallout is best played on a PC.  Not for the PCMR 4K on Ultra settings bragging rights, but for the unofficial patches.  It's sad that every Bethesda game is so broken unofficial community patches are required to actually play and finish them.

I've bought Morrowind GOTY on Xbox and both Oblivion and Oblivion GOTY on PS3 and I've yet to beat any of them due to stupid bugs....random quests I don't even remember on Morrowind and Oblivion....save game corruptions on Oblivion GOTY.  I've beat every single one on PC with DLC thanks to unofficial patches....not gonna say beat without issues on PC, but I beat them.

Then there are all the mods and better graphics and graphics mods for even betterer graphics.....and yeah, the Xbox One mods don't count since we can't use most of the worth a shiat bug fixing mods or overhauls or things involving scripting or animations....

Lots of gaming this week. My contract ended with my work and even though my rep told me they could find me a job quickly, HR with my company only has 6 listings for jobs nationwide and all for coding which I don't do. So I'm living off severance and looking for a new place.

First up:  Elite Dangerous. Finally got back into it after a I rage quit after the Commander's update farked with Combat Zone difficulty. I don't enjoy getting ass raped by 30 NPCs all at once the moment you fire on a mission target. $5M insurance is hefty for that shiat. Found new enjoyment just doing surface scan missions and running Space Uber. Also I finally got around to changing my UI colors to purple, and I'm super happy about that.

Next: Everspace. Figure I can get my space combat on in another format with a story to it. I'm actually still early in the game and the story is kind of confusing, but that's what I should expect given that you are playing a clone with amnesia... It's fun as hell though.

Finally:  Divinity: Original Sin 2. I just got started with it really. I keep making some critical errors at really bad times and losing like, an hour of play because I can't remember to save enough. Still on the first island. Really liking it though.

Scout rifles just don't 'feel' right to me - it's a weapon group I don't seem get on that well with. Ditto with sniper rifles in most other games. I'm a lot more comfortable at mid-close range and with flanking (or suicide rushes if I'm with someone who can give cover fire), so SMGs, the handgun types, and autorifles fit a lot better.

I'm currently running Origin Story and Mida Mini with a War Rig for Crucible. It's great for breaking off and not worrying about stopping my sprint to reload. Really want to find the Peacekeeper legs so I can flip that loadout around and run Antiope/Uriel.

Well, let's be fair, Dead Man's Switch (the basic Shadowrun Returns) was just "pretty good."  It was pretty linear, party members were mostly personality-less hirelings, and there were very few chances to avoid combat.  The story was somewhat interesting, since it's a fairly major part of the Shadowrun lore, but not fantastic.

Dragonfall and Hong Kong, on the other hand, were phenomenal.  The devs definitely learned from their mistakes and audience feedback on the main game, and they build excellent Shadowrun experiences for the expansions/sequels.  Personally, I preferred Hong Kong over Dragonfall, but I can't recommend either one strongly enough.

If that grabs your interest, the Shadowrun Returns games are excellent and sort of sequels to the SNES Shadowrun game.

Yes, I was a backer for both SR:R and HK. I love those games.

Still playing Overwatch.  I have a lot of fun with mystery heroes.  But when I play deathmatch, I get a lot of grief for using Torb, and then wipe the floor with everyone.

Also playing Rimworld.  Beat the game with the astronauts, so decided to go with the 5 cave men at the start.  Only problem with that, is that any research that I do takes incredibly long times, since they are cave men, and are stupid.  Even though they have discovered electricity and solar panels.  Oh well.

Karac: The only thing I didn't like about Dungeon Hack was that, as a single character 2nd edition AD&D game, you were pretty much required to be multiclass. Cleric/Mage or Cleric/Mage/Fighter were the only viable options.

That's the major reason I chose Cleric/Mage lol.

I didn't trust the game not to starve me to death, give me undead/lycanthropes and no magical weapons, etc.

I figured if I took Cleric I'd eventually get "create food and water" and as a mage I can identify items without either a) savescumming or b) playing "let's see what this thing does, please don't be cursed". Plus Clerics can do Flame Blade and kill undead/lycanthropes that way.

(Yes, there's an exploit where you can throw any item and it'll damage even undead/lycanthropes but that's kind of cheesy).

Or for the people who really hated themselves, locked door on level X, lever to toggle it open or closed on level Y.

Hehe. I do appreciate that it gives you so many options to play with.

I've been playing Pyre. The difficulty of the opponents ramps up. I'm tempted to go out and read and spoil the endings rather than get blasted out of the water.

Trying to decide what is next. I'm VERY tempted to put Skyrim back on the computer and play the enhanced version. dunno.

doctorguilty: hashtag.acronym: Anything Elder Scrolls or Fallout is best played on a PC.  Not for the PCMR 4K on Ultra settings bragging rights, but for the unofficial patches.  It's sad that every Bethesda game is so broken unofficial community patches are required to actually play and finish them.
Thanks for the warning. if a Mac version is out by now on Steam or someplace, I'll consider it, but otherwise I'll just stick with this. If I like it enough, I'll splurge on a PS4 or XB1 version instead.

You might get the original version to work under Wine, but the Special Edition likely won't work anytime soon (DX9 vs DX11).

XB1 version hands down, and that's coming from a person that prefers Playstation in the console department.  At least it has mods and there are some XB1 specific community bug-fix mods.  Sony sucks this generation.  Sony is basically the reason we don't have cross console and PC games this console generation....MS is all "fark yeah" about PC and console multiplayer games working with each other whereas Sony is playing the "but the children" card....

FWIW, a $120 GPU with 2GB of VRAM (RX 560/GTX 1050ti) will run Skyrim & SE good enough.  Not 1080p ultra, but my 2013 R7 260x does either on Windows 10 with mixed high/ultra/medium with low shadows for 40-60 fps @ 1080p (with dual Intel x5687s, 3.6ghz Westmere, and 48GB 1333 ECC-DDR3).  The 560 is the 2017 version of my 260x; the 560 should have better results.

I'm able to run regular Skyrim on Linux/Wine at similar speeds using the gallium-nine settings (only available for AMD cards on custom Wine compiles).  Some DX9 games actually run faster and smoother on Linux these days with AMD cards and gallium nine.  It's crazy.

Extra Virgin Geek Olive Oil: Lots of gaming this week.

Unless you're dying to environmental effects, I've made it a habit to quick save anytime a battle starts.

I stopped by Target on my lunch break for an errand and swung through to see if there were any SNES classic systems (just to see the hype).  They still had quite a few left.  It wasn't as crazy as the Wii or NES classic.

I'll pick one up, eventually, because of Starfox 2.

GRCooper: colonel0sanders: Petey4335: GRCooper: Still computerless for the next week and a half, so living vicariously through forums about the big Elite Dangerous update.

Any of you E:D guys been blowed up by Thargoids yet?

-I will stop for more of them.

I haven't checked, but didn't they change the route plotting limit from 1000Ly to 20000Ly?  That would be a really nice change for exploring.

I did read something about that. The bit I read said 25k, plus some new features (it'll show you last scoopable star based on your current fuel load, you can have the route plotter factor neutron stars/jumps, etc). Sounds like a great update

I checked - you're right, it's 20k.

If anyone's looking for fast cash, head to the E:D Reddit. Top story is about how to make a boatload running passengers out of Rhea (like hundreds of millions per hour in an Anaconda)

I somehow missed the CK2 sale last week, which is a bummer, I was waiting for that to go on sale, I guess I'll just have to wait a little longer.

I was recently given Horizon Zero Dawn and I'm about 4 hours into that now.  It's a good game and I'm enjoying it, haven't done too much, I've spent all of my time so far in the beginning area killing machines and selling their parts, I should probably progress the story eventually, I don't know how well the enemies will scale if I stay too long, right now it just seems to be spawning more Scrappers than earlier.

My son enjoys playing Beach Buggy Racing on the PS4, so I've been destroying him in that lately, he has to learn how to lose gracefully, doesn't build any character to let him win, plus it makes me feel good to beat a small child at video games.

Space Station Wagon: I wish I kept my copies of Battle for Middle Earth 1 & 2. I can't believe they aren't on steam.

Nor will they ever be. When the LotR movies came out, it was produced by New Line Pictures, and EA got the game license. However, once New Line officially merged with Warner Brothers, who sees themselves not as a movie studio but a media conglomerate, they snatched the rights from EA so they could make games using their own studios. So unless EA and WB somehow make a deal to bring back their old games, they are just yet another sacrifice to the IP gods.

I haven't read the whole thread yet, but the question was asked, so here's my info:

Current game: Stellaris, with the Star Trek New Horizon mod. I'm not that far into it yet, just 3 hours, but damn, it is fun, and the music is excellent. Sometimes I stop playing and just listen to it for a while. Very soothing.

Old game: Xenonaughts. Three missions in so far, one dead soldier (threw a grenade next to a dude, thinking he still had time units left. He did not. R. I. P.). Also great fun. Graphics are meh, but I have never really cared much about graphics if the game play is good.  It is.

Grither: Wow, no love for Heat Signature in this thread? That's what me and all my friends are currently obsessed with.

It is my current gaming obsession; 36 hours so far, and loving it (even when I massively screw up, heh.) I have noticed that it becomes more of a planning game the longer your characters survive. The potential for epic stories is fairly high, too. I love running into a room with five guards, slamming two of them in the face with dual-wielded wrenches, throwing both wrenches to knock out two more guards, and then teleporting one of the wrenches back into my hand to knock out the fifth...all in a few seconds

I had to divert some time to Eve Valkyrie: Warzone, since we're interviewing and livestreaming with at least one of the dev team on our podcast today (three and a half hours from now.)

Just a quick heads up. If the Mutant Football League demo doesn't work for you there is a patch coming. A number of antiviruses (Avast, Avira etc) flag it once it's running, essentially causing it to hang.

The devs are looking into the situation and will patch it.
