They aren't wrong.
But it's the death of our system of government if this is the new standard.

This past election pretty much sank the paradigm that "anyone can run for President."

They really can't.

After this administration, a cabinet comprised of Deepak Chopra and Dr.Phil would probably be a marked improvement. But no thank you just as well.

The way things are going for Trump, the Dems could nominate Pee Wee Herman and likely win.

No.  Just....no.  Please.  No more celebrity presidents.

Look, if Oprah wants to get into government and get her chops in congress, then yes, go ahead and run for president.

But the problem of "no government experience" doesn't become better just because the person in question is a lefty or a liberal.

I'm sure we could do a lot worse.

In truth, nobody is really qualified to be President.

She seems like she's smart enough to surround herself with qualified people and actually listen to them.

What? Fark that. Get Ol' Joe Biden on that ticket. Even some of the die hard conservitards at my work take pause and gives it some thought when his name gets brought up. I have yet to hear any strong objections from them over him running.

You know what, I'm all for letting Obama take up his last two years of eligibility to run against Trump in 2020.

Yeah, might not fly, but Trump doesn't want any part of Obama in any way possible.

Eh, I don't hate Oprah, but I'm not terribly enthusiastic about her as president. However, compared to the brain donor who's doing it now, nearly any celebrity who isn't an outspoken Republican would do a better job.

The disembodied head of Nixon would be a better president than Baby Donald.

Literally the only reasons I can come up with for her to be president:

1. She's not Grumps
2. A black woman in the White House would send the GOP over the screaming edge

Nixon even more so. And Lincoln wasn't.

However, Oprah pushed the Law of Attraction bullshiat real hard and inflicted Drs. Phil and Oz on the world. She's great at what she does, and I don't think a stupid person would be, but hers is a very compartmentalized intelligence.

Awful lotta star-f***king in this thread, too.

I once read a Libertarian "science fiction" fantasy about the far future where everyone was oppressed by being treated as corporations on an individual level (the book was extremely anvilicious about its political  message but I'm not sure even they knew what that message was supposed to be), and in the backstory of this dystopia, the United States paid slavery reparations under "President Winfrey."

Well at least the tag is accurate.

At least this celebrity billionaire would actually be a billionaire.

Can we not, though?
Can we elect someone who is a least slightly qualified for the job?

Except that Obama doesn't have 2 more years of eligibility.... a person can only be President for 10 years if they assume the Oval Office less than 2 years from the next inauguration.

22nd Amendment: "Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once."

There is a little wiggle room on whether Obama could run for VP though, and then assume the presidency:  https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2015/08/06/could-joe-biden-pick-barack-obama-as-his-running-mate-yes-but/?utm_term=.b314690c2f48

Winfrey-Obama.... that would be funny.

Honestly, we would probably be guranteed legal weed and possibly other goodies if that scenario plays out. It would be an unmitigated disaster otherwise, but we could all be trippn' balls so it wouldn't matter.

I like Oprah, but no.  No more political "outsiders".  We need people who actually know what the fark they're doing.

If you want to fantasize about a celebrity presidential candidate at least pick one with experience in government.

It depends on why you think Trump won.

Was is strictly because of Hillary and the hatred against her, or was it a general rejection of "politicians" as usual?  If you think it was primarily Hillary, then, certainly, the Democrats should run a less-hated politician this time around.    If you think it was more of a general rejection of "politicians", then, you might need to look at this "type" of a candidate.

Be careful with that.  The only person with on the job experience that will be eligible to run will be Trump.

How about picking someone that has at least a 50/50 chance of living through a 4-year term?

Are the mods going to green every opinion piece about "X should be the Democratic nominee in 2020"?

I mean I understand it gets a lot of frankly pointless comments, so perhaps that's the real point here.
