I really think that Pruitt seems to think he's the equivalent to the President, and therefore entitled to 24/7 security, special travel, and secure communication right in his office. I also think he's smarter and more evil than Trump.
Pruitt, Sessions, Zinke and DeVos are the biggest dangers I see in DC right now. Perry and Price are right behind them.

Just let them steal whatever they want.  It's what just enough of the American people voted for.

In addition to all the swamp gas they're producing.  I'm in interested to see the result.

I'm the libbiest lib who ever libbed but I have a hard time giving a single fark about penny ante shiat like this.

I'm a lot more concerned about the billions (trillions?) that the GOP and their cronies are systematically siphoning from the government.

I'd like to see Pruitt in a dystopian future where he finds himself stripped of all memories and he's apparently the leader of a Mad Max-style gang, but he has a feeling he isn't really the leader, they're just pretending he is. He detects glances being exchanged among them, grins they think he doesn't see.

There's some kind of big mission the day after tomorrow that he's supposed to lead. They've shown him a big steel cage he'll ride in on the back of a heavily modified Mack. "Strapped in safe and sound" is how they say he'll be in there.

Sweat is trickling down the back of his neck.

Let's cut taxes and keep letting these guys screw us out of money. It'll totally make things better.

If this had happened under Obama or either Clinton, can you imagine the epic meltdowns on Fox?

Also, if you're that damned important, your ass should stay in DC and do actual work.

"The EPA spokesman justified the use of the charter plane by saying that it "would have been impossible" for Pruitt to make it to his destination on time otherwise, due to a more than five-hour delay on the originally scheduled commercial flight."

Welcome to the party, pal.

But, why ever would the people complain about the free market..?

This is exactly what the Republican rubes voted for. They blather non-stop about how "America is a corporation" and "the President is a CEO" and that being a "businessman" is somehow the highest possible qualification for the presidency. Well, CEOs and businessmen often get caught looting their own companies. The company only exists to enrich them and they know that and everyone accepts it. Because, so the myth goes, the richer they get, the bigger the company will get in terms of employees and of employee compensation.

Private jets are probably costing around $10k/hour and up. A few round trips, and you've paid someone's salary for the year. Now start using that exclusively for travel, making a few trips a month. Now have all of administrators start doing that as well.

This is a big part of how they're systematically siphoning from the government.

I'm honestly confused by this. Pruitt not using government flights is bad, but earlier there is a thread about congresscritters being denied using government flights as a bad thing.

Could someone explain this for me? I'm not being snarky, I'm just confused why it's good for some high officials and not others.

I don't think that the amount of money they spend on this stuff is necessarily that harmful in and of itself.  However...

1. It displays just exactly how dishonest their arguments about government "waste, fraud, and abuse" are, and how little they actually care about it as opposed to how much they care about using the (blatantly false) idea of it as a hammer to hit Democrats with.

2. The money involved is not entirely insignificant. They will happily cut a few million from one small government program or another, that helps some small-but-needy group, because they say that the government needs to spend less money. But then they turn around and spend just as much on shiat like this. If you include Trump himself and his entirely unnecessary weekend golfing getaways, the amount of money they are spending is on the order of, perhaps, what it might cost the federal government to extend a very low interest loan to... oh, maybe.. Flint, Michigan, so they can replace their water pipes?

3. It displays exactly how much contempt they have for the taxpayers they serve. They talk a big game about savings taxpayers money, but it is all BS, and you can tell by how they act when they aren't at the podium slinging that bullsh*t. They truly believe that regular people are there to be an ATM to pay for their self-serving whims, and you can tell because that is how they act.

Scott 'I'm terrified of my own employees' Pruitt

To be fair, some of his employees probably give a shiat about protecting the environment whereas for Pruitt "rape the planet" is not just a slogan, it's a way of life. He's thinking that may piss off his employees a wee bit.

Given the connectivity we enjoy nowadays, I would think that any real justification for private jets for business purposes largely evaporated a some time ago. It's nothing but a perk for senior executives egos.

The White House hasn't fired anyone in a bit, and I think it's quite cathartic for Donnie Dotard.

He might actually let Pruitt or Price have it. Here's hoping.

Not really sure I understand the uproar on this one.  It sounds like he legitimately needed to get to an important meeting he could not get to because domestic flights were delayed?  This seems a heck of a lot different than chartering a trip to watch the eclipse.

The congress people were blocked from tagging along to PR on military flights.  These aren't tag along these are people needing to use a plane for their use.  At least that was my understanding, Pruitt seems more in the gray on his flights, it's really Price who's the issue.

Plus, I think it matters now because the GOP just had electoral proof that the GOP base doesn't back Trump as much as the racism.  Roy Moore proved a very valid point on how the GOP base's doesn't follow Trump as much as what he does and that translates to anybody they can throw up to a position of power.  Which means Trump isn't special or even that well-regarded.

Everybody is going after Trump's people now.  If I didn't know better, the GOP now has a very special plan for Trump:  he's going to suffer for what he's done and take full blame as the GOP tries to reinvent itself once more with new dogwhistles or none at all.  Trump will become the screaming excuse as the GOP reconfigures itself.  And that means everybody that works for him is going down as well.

Commercial air travel in and out of San Juan is extremely limited. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dr-gridlock/wp/2017/09/25/air-traffic-slowly-returns-to-puerto-rico-but-dire-conditions-continue-after-maria/?utm_term=.4b029d446069

The island's entire electrical grid is crippled. Military's cargo aircraft like the  C130 are designed to fly and land in remote areas. They don't have all the fancy ground radar and navigation systems that modern Boeing & Aiirbus jets are so reliant on.
