This is technically a sequel, since Kiefer Sutherland returns.

His name is Barry Wolfson in this one, not Nelson.  So I'm thinking not a sequel.

He's also listed as "Young Nelson" in the credits. I assume there's a flashback using scenes from the original.

And here it is, in Pen & Paper RPG form:

That's not exactly uncommon with remakes.

So we're linking to random IMDB pages as stories now? Did you just notice this was made?

I'm glad I'm not cynical or else I'd assume this was some stealth advertisement.

Pure coincidence that it opens this weekend, I'm sure.

Seriously, the lines are ROUND.

Science PROVES IT.  farking Neil Degrasse Tyson proved it!  How can people still think the lines are FLAT?

MORONS!

I .. don't remember this being a horror movie.  And I must've seen it like dozens of times, considering it was the only thing worth watching at all on HBO for a long time.  ANyway, whatevers.  My other half will drag me to see it, and I'll be like *eyeroll*.

I remember going to see the first one. I was really looking forward to it. Young turk researchers cross the line between life and death bringing "things" back with them. The premise held so much promise.
The reality: Kiefer Sutherland gets chased around by a middle-schooler in a hoodie and an hour of Julia Roberts crying because her dad was a junkie.

Tell my story if I don't come back, I'm click on a tv tropes link.  Do not send anyone else, lest they are lost, too.

I never saw the first one but after seeing the preview it seems like they nailed the vibe of the first one. It started off piquing my interest with a cool premise, then completely killed it by showing that it will be nothing more than the latest Final Destination sequel.

I liked it, too.  Although it was a mainstream movie, so many farkers will mock us so they can feel superior.

The only good thing about that awful movie is Julia Robert's butt.

Typical Philistines. Of course you'd like it. You have no idea they were really just ripping off a 1922 Norwegian flipbook series called "Glubensprokenfjordefisk." If you'd see that, you'd know that that's why the 1990 Flatliners ruined everything forever.

/I liked it too. It was certainly flawed, but entertaining.
//I wouldn't take too many farkers' advice on movies and music.

Ad me to the 'liked it' brigade.  I'm a sucker for dream/head-job experience movies.  (Dreamscape, Brainstorm, etc)

I just love how it opens this week and there isn't a single review of it yet. It can't be due to trying to keep the plot secret, it's a freaking remake.

Ah well, at least we get more Ellen Page to drool over.

They can go right ahead. Happily inferior for over fifty years now. I enjoy quite a few capital-F FILMS made by bona fide cinematic geniuses. I just enjoy a fun movie on occasion... even if it gets low marks with the critics and sometimes moreso because of it.

Yeah, I liked it when it came our. Probably my age at the time. Old enough to see it in the theaters, but not old enough to have more discriminating tastes. I do remember that I liked the idea better than the execution, but I did find it entertaining.

The first half was pretty great. People becoming addicted to see who can stay "under" the longest. The secon half, standard mainstream vanilla safe-horror fare.

Hey, it was a horror-ish movie that tried to be different in an era dominated by slasher movies, I'll give it that at least. I liked it when I was a kid, and have no plans to revisit it.

When the 80's ended American society took a sharp turn.  A turn away from whatever the 80's were, into whatever.  Into grunge and all that.  Flatliners to me joins a handful of movies that did NOT see that turn coming and came across as 80's but wrong.

This post brought to you by drunk me.

(I saw Flatliners in the theater AND bought this single back in the day, I was young)

This movie was known to suck when it was originally released. Anyone with nostalgic feelings for it has long since died of liver failure.

I'll watch it for Ellen Page.  I saw the original and only recall being disappointed.
